SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. Stranger Danger! Now drones are being used to lure children.
Communist in Cadet’s Clothing
It’s not just the American civilian population that is spinning out of control. The honorable West Point is having much of the same issue with lack of respect for authority and moral values that match those that founded this nation. Reader P.M. sent in this article: Army Opens Investigation Into West Point Grad For Promoting Communism. Of particular interest in one sworn affidavit. This sort of juvenile delinquent behavior is unbecoming of anyone, especially a West Point Cadet.
Tape Measures and Hammers
Home Depot is in a tough spot. They traditionally market to the “Do it yourself” (DIY), but now the next generation is coming of age. What do you do when you sell lumber, hardware and tools to someone who doesn’t even know how to hammer a nail or use a tape measure? They have spent millions creating a series of videos on how to do basic things like read a tape measure or even mow a lawn. It’s not just home repair companies either. “Do it yourself” seems to be morphing into “Do it for me.” Thanks to G.G. for the link.
Kobe Steel, the third largest steel maker in Japan has now announced that the fudging of inspection data on their steel is wider that previously believed. Companies like Boeing, Mitsubishi and Nissan are scrambling to review their data to see if they have used any of the affected steels and if so, what sort of risk those steels pose. I can’t help but think of Tom Clancy’s book “Debt of Honor” as I read this story.
Deputy AG Calls for Court-Approved Access to Encrypted Devices. Rosenstein has declared strong encryption, that the government can’t break, as a national security risk. What short memories we have. This concept rears it’s head every few years. I’m wondering if anyone remembers the “clipper chip”, the NSA designed voice encryption chip that would allow the government access to any encrypted conversation in the 1990’s? Thanks to G.P. for the link.
Wait, weren’t they just arguing for gun control? Leftists Discover the Importance of Opposing Gun Control Laws Like the Bump Fire Stock Ban. Suddenly, those who have fought to take your guns away for the last 8 years have suddenly decided they need them for the exact same reason you do. They want to protect themselves from an authoritarian government that they fear will oppress them. I still don’t trust them though. Thanks to DSV for the link.
Reason #5041 to Leave Public School
Tuberculosis tests offered after two cases confirmed at Prince George’s County school. The School confirmed that two people were being treated for active tuberculosis, but they would not confirm if it was students or staff. Since they can’t release identity information, parents are left with no idea on whether they children have been exposed or not. The school assures parents that the risk is small, but is making the tests available just in case parents want to know. thanks to F.M. for the link.
Don’t take candy from strangers! Reader DSV sent in this article of a couple who claim a voice from a drone tried to lure children away from Ellet playground in Akron. At least one father reports that he stopped his child from following the drone as it tried to lead the child away.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!
