Biden Our Time: Surviving Four Years of Leftist-Democrat Domination

I’ll begin this essay with a headline over at the left-leaning Quartz news outlet: Biden has a $1.9 trillion economic recovery plan—and a path to achieve it.

In some ways, Biden is a lot like Trump. He is willing to vastly expand the debt burden of future generations, in exchange for short-term benefit. Beware. This may just be the beginning of a lot more over-spending.

Former Senator Joe Biden was sworn in on January 20, 2021. Alongside him was the new Vice President, former California Senator Kamala Harris. Comrade Harris has a far left-wing voting history in the Senate. It is frightening to think that she is now President of the Senate, and the tie-breaker on any 50-50 split votes.

You’ve doubtless heard the news reports about Joe Biden’s senile mental lapses. Some of his gaffes, halting speech, and general confusion have become almost legendary. It is all too clear that because of his mental deterioration he is very likely to step down before he serves his full four-year term. At that juncture, we would then have Comrade Harris as our President. Her politics can be pegged on the political spectrum somewhere between those of Vladimir Lenin and Mao Tse Tung.

Even if Joe Biden serves his full term in office, we will surely be confronted with a raft of hard-left Democrat policies. Many of them will come via executive orders. These will very likely include:

  • Amnesty for illegal aliens.
  • Harsh environmental regulations paired with social sanctions.  (The Biden team considers climate change a “racial justice” issue.)
  • A weak, compromised, and vacillating foreign policy that will closely resemble that of the Obama administration.
  • Violations of our Second Amendment rights.
  • Violations of our First Amendment rights including censorship of “unreliable” news outlets.
  • Un-even foreign trade deals. (Read: China wins.)
  • A renewal of Obama’s Iran-appeasing “nuclear deal.”
  • A huge variety of “social justice” schemes.
  • Absurd COVID masking mandates, in cooperation with the CDC.
  • Vaccination mandates, and “Immunization Passports.”
  • Back-stabbing of many of our traditional allies, including Israel, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
  • Punitive tax audits, FBI probes, ATF raids, and EPA fines for anyone identified as a Trump supporter, or conservative Christian, or gun rights advocate.

Believe it or not, Mossberg hasn’t made a handgun in about a hundred years. Of course, they are known for their shotguns and rifles, but not for their handguns. Some time ago, I did a review on their MC1sc 9mm handgun, and it is one sweet little shooter in 9mm. It comes with a flat bottom magazine that holds 6-rounds as well as an extended mag that holds 7-rounds, and I much preferred the extended mag for a better grip on the gun. Mossberg promised another 9mm was coming, and it was about a year before I saw the first one on the marketplace, and I’m impressed with it.

The MC2c is a compact 9mm – however, it appears to be bigger than it really is. When I held it up next to other similar 9mm handguns, it was no bigger and even smaller than I thought it was. Right now, during this Coronavirus pandemic, anything in the way of a 9mm handgun is selling as fast as they hit dealer’s shelves, and needless to say, it is even more difficult to find 9mm handgun ammo these days. One place, and I won’t mention their name, is shamelessly selling 9mm FMJ imported ammo for $799.99 per case – that comes out to about 80-cents per round for FMJ ammo. That’s almost criminal if you ask me – but people are paying it. I also note that this same dealer is selling imported Russian steel-cased .223 ammo for $699.99 for a case of 1,000 rounds – again, this is steel-cased ammo, not quality brass-cased ammo.

Here in Oregon, the wait to get a background check completed, so you can take possession of your firearm you just purchased is running 9-10 days now – and as of this writing, we have more than 5,000 people waiting to get cleared so they can get their firearms. If you believe guns and ammo are hard to find now, and expensive, you ain’t seen nothing, yet!

I used to carry full-sized handguns – almost all the time, I found them more “comforting” than smaller handguns. But so much of that has changed over the years. Now, more than at any other time, small compact, sub-compact, and even micro sized handguns in 9mm are very popular – and they work! Many attempts have been made over the years to make handguns as small as possible – and many of those just didn’t work!

The Mossberg MC1sc was a joy to shoot, and it is very compact, and easy to pack, a lot of women like the size because it fits in a concealed purse hidden pocket, along with a spare magazine, and you should always have at least one spare magazine if you are carrying a firearms! Guys like the little MC1sc because it is reliable – thus far – 100% in my on-going testing – and it packs a punch, and can handle +P 9mm ammo, and it can be worn on a belt, inside the waist, on an ankle holster or even a pocket holster. Recipe of the Week: Baked Corn and Tomatoes

The following recipe for Baked Corn and Tomatoes is from The New Butterick Cook Book, by Flora Rose, co-head of the School of Home Economics at Cornell University. It was published in 1924. A professional scan of that 724-page out-of-copyright book will be one of the many bonus items included in the next edition of the waterproof SurvivalBlog Archive USB stick. Ingredients
  • 2 cups cooked corn (fresh or canned
  • 2 cups tomatoes (fresh or canned)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup fresh bread-crums
  • 3 tablespoons butter, butter substitute, or savory fat
Directions

Mix seasonings with the corn and tomatoes and pour ail into a greased baking-dish. Spread the crumbs over the top, dot them with the butter or butter substitute, and bake in a moderate oven for one-half hour. This is a satisfactory way of utilizing left-over corn or tomatoes.

Human Terrain

This section of the area study deals with the people who live in your Area of Operations (AO) and Area of Interest (AI). Data for this section can be a little harder to find depending on where you live. For my first area study I was able to search voter rolls to determine party affiliations. For my current area those records do not exist, though I was able to find more detailed political party details relevant to the AO.

Data to determine and document the human terrain include:

• Names of the people living closest to you (neighbors) and their political affiliations
• Demographics for the population of the AO
• Socioeconomic data for the population of the AO
• Attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of the people in your AO
• Who are the influencers of opinions and actions in your AO

Local GIS data can provide information on who owns properties nearby or in any part of the AO you wish to drill deeper in to. Simply performing a web search on your area name and the keywords “demographics” and “socioeconomics,” along with the latest census data will provide a wealth of information.

The websites for the political parties at the local level will provide some insight into the general trends for the AO. Elected officials and statewide political data is posted later in the study.

I find that determining the influencers in the AO takes the longest time to acquire. From a general standpoint teachers, small business owners and pastors among others have a good sized influence at the local level. I’ve had good luck with just speaking to neighbors, friends and business owners to pick up who are the movers-and-shakers in my AO. The barber shop is one of my best eavesdropping sites (remembering OPSEC of course)!

Critical Infrastructure

I find that determining and documenting the critical infrastructure in the AO and AI takes the second longest amount of time. Again, depending on where you are some parts of this section may take a considerable amount of digging to acquire.

The primary data points for this section include:

• Energy and utilities
• Hospitals and trauma centers
• Schools

Depending on your location, the number of electrical energy providers may be one or many. Rural areas may have an electric cooperative (Co-Op) while suburban and urban areas may have a single large power company. Regardless, the infrastructure that provides the power to your AO and AI is composed of miles of power lines and potentially dozens of electrical substations. Welcome to SurvivalBlog’s Precious Metals Month in Review, where we take a look at “the month that was” in precious metals. Each month, we cover gold’s performance and the factors that affected gold prices.

Year-End Gold Market

The fourth quarter of 2020 was not kind to precious metals. Losses in both October and November seriously dented annual returns for both gold and silver.

Gold’s December gain of 6.3% was barely enough to erase October and November’s losses. Still, gold posted a gain of more than 24% in 2020, a ten-year high.

Silver traded up 17% in December, enough for a 13% gain in the fourth quarter. Silver gained 48% for the year, which was also the best annual performance for silver since 2010.

What Did Gold Do in January?

The start of 2021 did not follow the usual script for January. Instead, prices fell nearly $100 an ounce over the course of the month. January is usually one of gold’s best months. It has, however, been very good for the physical gold market. More on that later.

Gold had a good start to the year. It powered $50 higher to comfortably regain the $1900 mark on the first day of trading. By the end of the week, though, it has fallen to $1,835 an ounce. It spent most of the rest of the month between $1,840 and $1,860.

Factors Affecting Gold This Month

COVID

A botched government roll-out of COVID vaccines in December didn’t get any better in January. Complicating matters, several new coronavirus strains have been discovered. Some of these new strains are more contagious, spreading more rapidly. The fast-spreading, more contagious UK version is expected to be the dominant strain in the US by March. Luckily, existing vaccines seem to work on it.

Some strains, such as the ones discovered in Los Angeles and South Africa are proving more resistant to existing vaccines, leading drugmakers to work on improving their formulas.

These developments have raised doubts that many nations will see an economic recovery anytime soon. Central banks have strongly urged governments to step up and provide economic assistance to people. The book Rescue At Los Baños by historian and bestselling author Bruce Henderson is fascinating reading. And the movie The Great Raid was loosely based on this raid’s history.

Knowledge is Power: The Value of an Area Study – Part 1, by Viking4

I’d like to give a huge thank you to both Sam Culper at Forward Observer and our own esteemed James Wesley, Rawles. While I was fortunate enough to serve in S-2 shop of an armor battalion during my Army career, without the guidance from these two outstanding gentlemen, I never would have been able to conduct let alone complete these area studies. Intelligence and analysis are must-haves in preparation for what is coming. Please continue to show us the way!

What is an Area Study and Why Would You Need One?

An area study is an element of preparedness and security common to military special operations and civil affairs units. Area studies contain information on a designated area that supports contingency and security planning. The finished product is usually completed before the need arises for the information that is gathered. Once a mission is received, the tactical unit conducts a detailed area assessment using the information in the area study as a starting point. The area assessment supplements the information in the area study based on mission requirements.

In today’s fluid environment, conducting contingency and security planning for your locale supports your preparation to possibly execute a multitude of possible courses of action. I agree with Sam Culper that having one of these will “increase our survivability, allows us to develop realistic expectations and helps us to anticipate future events.” Intelligence drives decision making, and having these facts and data on hand if the need arises can save precious time.

In the past 18 months, I have completed two area studies. The first was for an area in the western part of an upper Midwestern state. Before our family moved, this area study was passed along like-minded individuals who saw the value and would make good use the information gathered. The second was for the new area in the state where we currently reside.

For those interested, Sam has shared a checklist (you knew that word was coming) for the creation of an area study. Both of my studies have used a modified version of his checklist, though I have added details within some of his sections to more accurately meet what I consider local needs.

All of the information in both area studies was gathered using sources available to the general public. In some cases interviews were conducted with long-term residents of the area to flesh out important details for some of the sections. Keep both operational security and your local laws in mind when you prepare an area study.
