The K.I.S.S. Principle and Transceivers – Part 4, by Tunnel Rabbit

…if we can keep raiding hordes of entitled Commies, and other rouge elements at bay. No other part of the American Redoubt has the winning combination of desirable factors for a long term survival situation as does NW Montana. Please don’t let this secret out. Send them all to Idaho, so that they can serve as NW Montana’s outer layer of defense from the Left Coast. Tunnel Rabbit That would be a perfect ground plane for such an antenna. GGHD People, maybe could think about saving the specified information about the cables connecting the antennae to the radios. [Listed in the Article] The inexpensive handheld GMRS radios can all be set for the same frequencies. I was in a multi-car trip one time. A couple, brought along a number of the GMRS radios along, so each car could be on the same frequency. From this article, as it’s an easy…

Editors’ Prepping Progress

…No cars, no stores, and no stinkin’ phones. Many died for lack of medication, Others died from total starvation. Many were killed by the roving hordes, Others went crazy, right out of their gourds. The commies and liberals all died in the cities, While waiting for this or that subcommittee, To keep them from harm with more regulations, Rioting and protesting for gun confiscations. I’ve many regrets, too many to list, Things overlooked, or just plain missed. I wish I’d’ve bought some solar panels, Instead of that cable with 99 channels. I should’ve bought a tank to store some rain, Hiking to the creek is such a huge pain. Then building a fire to purify my haul, ‘Cause I didn’t buy a Berkey, dad-gum-it all! I burned all my propane by the end of month three, Heating hot water, how dumb could I be? I should’ve conserved it for cooking…

Abandoning Home, by Francis

…manpower to guard the walls at night so your family can sleep safely. 5) Mel Tappan covered this over 40 years ago — get his “Tappan on Survival” . Including his explanation for why blowing into a strange place at the last minute makes you the expendable stranger with no voice in the local council, no local friends and top of the list to be sacrificed if the food gets short — or if the locals wonder if you are the spy for the bandit hordes. Plus look at logistics— how long do you think the supermarkets will receive shipments from tractor trailers on the roads if things are as bad as you assume? 6) If you plan on being self-sufficient , realize it will take at least a year of making mistakes –Minimum — to become a competent farmer who can grow food with limited risk. Also realize that…

States’ Rights Versus Federalism, by F.B.

…of red with little spots of blue. And each state has spotted blue fever. ThoDan @Nathan Hail Nothing to fear from me in a civil war or any other, neither i´m american nor of Military age any longer. The Problem is not the diffrence of opinion but the lack of respect for People with different opinions. Show me please the article or Amendment of your constitution wich allows a state to leave the union especially under force of arms, even then nobody has the Right to demand the freedom to enslave his fellow man or deny him his Rights as an human or citicen. Charles K. War can be avoided, all you have to do is to be willing to submit to the zombie hordes. Are you willing to submit to the zombie hordes? Charles K. To do this justice I’d have to write a 5 or 6 part article,…

Pandemic Policies are Destroying the Economy and our Liberty

…mud season is here. Local stores(general stores etc) have had to close their doors to any entrance of customers and only allow phones in orders to be picked up outside due to the hordes of out-of-staters coming there and congregating, so excited to be here, seeing their friends, on “vacation” months early etc. all the while bringing their germs to us and buying out our limited food supplies. I’d be fine if they just banned them all! And yes, I know this is thorny as many of them own their second-homes and pay taxes on them so why can’t they use them when they want to? Does seem to me though that public health trumps individual liberties in some cases which is why infectious individuals in the days of diphtheria, smallpox, measles etc would be legally quarantined and a sign posted on their home. I think there is a lot…

What is Survival?- Part 3, by MuddyKid

…certainly polite. Consider that in the future? Howdy-Doody In the section entitled “Snakes and Threats That are LEGIBLE,” you cite an example of how we view food and threats in ways that are LEGIBLE. What does LEGIBLE mean? That it can be “read?” JBH Hunting is certainly a skill which will be necessary however it will only be a stop gap IMO. There is plenty of written and anecdotal evidence that the Depression resulted in drastically reduced game population in the US that was only reversed with strictly managed hunting. And that was with mostly functioning industrial agriculture and many rural people and many not so rural people planting gardens and raising animals relatively unmolested by “Golden Hordes“. My discussions with Depression Era people I know indicated that food quantity was not that bad as agriculture was still quite functional. Luxuries like sugar or ketchup or meat were rationed within…

Predictors of Urban Riot Behavior, by E.M.

…want to look at floating in your drinking water. … A pantry full of food might be useless to a family forced to drink polluted water. ~ Useless because the family might be ‘running’ constantly to pollute the drinking water even more! Nathan Normalcy Bias is so very difficult to suppress… Ken I live in South Carolina. In the ’60s the students and townfolk in Orangeburg commenced to riot and burn the town. The SC Highway Patrol showed up in force and killed several rioters. Haven’t had a riot in SC since….. Muddykid How I read this article” Predictors of Urban Riot Behavior – The teaching point or takeaway point here? – Poor people, who are often black, are violent, steal your stuff. So, you better be prepared of the black hordes will get you. Just look at the picture that JWR used for the article. Never mind the fact…

The New Urban Fortress- Part 2, by M.H.

…And you will be making money in the here and now. The self contained idea of solar power with rain basins is also excellent in long term grid down. As to the idea you will have to defend your place from the hordes is not logical since in 72 hours the massive chaos will burn itself out very quickly. Just the mere lack of food will cause it. Your building out in an industrial area will not look like a “store” with food or other supplies. The idea of placing bio-hazard signs would go a long way to keep people out. The building can be fireproof with steel outer shell with brick interior walls. I know the advice the man in Argentina that has gone through a real collapse lived in a urban environment and his only regrets was not buying a generator and more food. Anyway, excellent article in…

Letter: South Africa – It Begins

…are responsible. They are decidedly ignoring what is transpiring in SA. The USA criminal military, alone, could put a halt to the planned assault and seizure of “white” owned land in SA, by pulling another invasion . They practice it enough, with their criminal mideast policy.___Get out of SA, all you who are considered “white”. The ignorant moronic hordes, will delight in destroying , all who appear “white”. It will be evil, on earth. Get out now. Slid They wont need to destroy their own property, etc. They should leave though. __ If this goes forward , and the anti white hordes do acquire the property, they will destroy it themselves . They will, in one season , ruin the whole SA agriculture production, guaranteed. This is a difficult question, and one may never know exactly what they would do until faced with the decision, but I do not believe…

A Few Hard-Learned Lessons- Part 2, by Grey Woman

…keep your lip zipped about your plans, your preps, why you moved. Don’t just move in and start calling yourself a prepper. Homesteader, yes; prepper, no. Once you reveal pertinent information, you cannot call it back. I decided on giving out a true story which simply omits information that would expose me as a prepper, saying that I had retired and had always dreamed of living in a cabin in the woods. Period, the end. No mention of food storage, amounts of ammo, golden hordes, politics, nothing. Just how happy I am to be here breathing this fresh clean air and enjoying my retirement. With time you will start to meet other like minded but if you are a blabbermouth about your own prepping, they will not trust you with their own story. Didi Thank you for your heartfelt words. From what I have observed, there are many preppers in…

The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

…barn that holds my stuff exactly as I like it. The Diderot Effect explains why I cannot walk away from vintage, made in USA hand and gardening tools at garage sales. My Wife laughs at my collection of pipe wrenches. Then I have to find a use for my newly acquired tool. I always apologize and just keep digging in the tool pile. Don Williams Re the Diderot Effect, are we supposed to ignore all those ads to the right? How many people here have actually used a $4000 night vision scope to fight off zombie hordes at night? Maybe Rawles and HJL can do like the casinos and provide a phone number that lets survivalist shopping addicts register themselves so they can be blocked from ordering anything in the future. Although wives tend to keep the married guys under restraint — well, them and the divorce lawyers. Ned2 Re:…

Getting Ready For the Long Walk-Part 1, by Lone Wolf and Cub

…happen, but if it did – we are on your own. Lone wolf and cub Hi Skip, thanks for your response. Without offending you I will paraphrase 12:11, “those who works his land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies lack judgment” God bless to you and your family, again no disrespect is intended. Lone wolf and cub Thank you Bearded Warrior, Your comment is much appreciated. God bless you and your family, Lone wolf and cub Dear commenter, I probably will not reply indivually to comments further on. Thank you, I look forward to your insights and responses. God bless US is mighty big for any semblance of martial law to be effective. As I travel the country and fly over the many areas I laugh at the government being able to control to hordes. Not enough bodies to go around. Lone wolf and cub Thank you…

Zoning Laws, HOAs, and CC&Rs as Criteria for Choosing Your Retreat Locale

…have already selected a good geographic region. To avoid marking yourself as the “neighborhood survivalist” (leading not only to social embarrassment, but also to the hordes at your door in a true crisis) start slowly. Most who pay the premium for a gated community are already quite security conscious. Initiate seminars in security and crisis communication. Foster the “neighborhood watch” mindset. It can later morph into a neighborhood watch on steroids, if necessary, to meet changing conditions. Your neighbors will probably have invested thousands in security systems, and perhaps much more in “safe rooms” or “panic rooms”. Many may be interested in further enhancing their security. A seminar on earthquake/flood/fire preparedness may be welcome, and the discussions should help identify those receptive to much more diligent preparedness. Others may be interested in an expert guest speaker on firearms selection and tactics for home security. Listen to the questions and discussions…

From David in Israel Re: EMP and EMP Protection

…apply to EMP, you need a real antenna to fry electronics. .I need to get further information from my old E.E. professor (who was head engineer for aftermarket ignition parts design firm, after working designing systems for the F-111/FB-111) for further info and will get back to you with more mil-spec to civilian brand EMP resistance comparison info. For everyone reading they must know losing their car/truck to carjack, nuclear strike, mutated wombat hordes, or no fuel is not the end of the world. After your no power/gas/water tests do a no car test week. Take a bike/donkey/bus/walk to work, not every scenario starts with EMP, I place EMP in the same category as dirty bomb, it has never happened but there is so much FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) surrounding the mythical EMP demon that any discussion automatically reverts to the scary movies and books you have seen. JWR…

Two Letters Re: Missouri’s Retreat Potential

…Louis on the East, Kansas City on the west, and Springfield in the southwest. Columbia is in mid-Missouri and it just topped 100,000 pop mark. The Minuteman missile sites were decommissioned with the last SALT/START talks. Disadvantages include rising land prices, Whiteman AFB (home of the B2 [strategic nuclear bomber]), and Callaway Nuclear Power Plant here in mid-Missouri. Other than the population centers, MO is fairly conservative, Concealed Carry passed recently (to the dismay of the socialists in STL). Interstate 70 bisects MO in half and connects STL and KC, and is a vital route of the country. The advantage is that with 1 out of 4 semis carrying some type of food stuffs, is outweighed by the fact that the “hordes” will most likely travel these main arteries. Tactically, there are many bridges in Missouri that can be brought down or blocked. The Missouri and Mississippi Rivers are just…
