On this day in 1776, writer Thomas Paine published his pamphlet “Common Sense,” setting forth his arguments in favor of American independence. Although little used today, pamphlets were an important medium for the spread of ideas in the 16th through 19th centuries.
My, how times change! It wasn’t all that long ago that a red dot sight was rather huge when mounted on a rifle, and no one even gave any thought to a red dot sight on a handgun. It was quite the thing back in the day. Over the years, I’ve tried all manner of red dot sights on rifles, shotguns, and handguns. One thing they all had in common was that they always failed when I used them. The red dot wouldn’t work, or it was totally way off from the last time I adjusted it for windage and elevation. I would like to add one statement to this discussion. The door going in and out of the USA swings both ways. Is it a matter of my way or the highway? In a word, no. However, I am begging for any liberal of any stripe to please tell me where it is so much better to live on this planet, and once stated, why are you not there? I am a firm believer in voting with your feet. I and many others have done it, and so can anyone else. Quit your complaining. – C.N.

With only the 2nd amendment, you have all the liberties in the rest of the Constitution and can reconstruct the whole. Without the 2nd amendment, you only have the liberties the … Continue reading
“Small islands not capable of protecting themselves, are the proper objects for kingdoms to take under their care; but there is something very absurd, in supposing a continent to be perpetually governed by an island.” – Thomas Paine, in Common Sense
