The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. More reasons why you really want to get your kids out of public school are in the news today. This type of reprehensible behavior is becoming almost a daily occurrence in the news cycle.

Socialism

Reader H.L. sent in the link to this article that accurately describes the relationship between socialism and a ruling oligarchy. the idiots who desire to overthrow the oligarchy in favor of socialism don’t understand that they are actually doing the bidding of that very oligarchy. It seems counterintuitive, but history bears it out. Every socialist revolution promises a better government. Of course, first you have to install the necessary dictatorship. Unsurprisingly, the socialist never makes it past that point. It’s the same old oligarchy, but under a different name.

Reason #5035 To Leave Public School

It’s difficult to add any commentary to these headlines. They pretty much speak for themselves. Remember, these are the authority figures that you entrust your children to when you send them off to school. These are the figures who are considered guardians of your child during the day. Thanks to reader F.M. for the links.

Second Amendment

John Cycl wrote an excellent article on the Second Amendment in light of the recent evil perpetrated upon Las Vegas: Call to Disarm Citizens Violates Natural Rights. Excerpt: “While most of the country mourned the dead, prayed for all of the victims and sought answers as to “why,” the anti-Second Amendment and gun control crowd immediately started their impossible demands. Their assumptions and imaginations could not wait for facts.”

If it wasn’t Hitlery, it would be Michael. Michael Moore proposes change to Constitution that ‘repeals the ancient and outdated 2nd Amendment’. Michael obviously has trouble understanding that muskets were the state-of-the-art weapon used by the military in that time. If the Second Amendment were written today, it would certainly include language that was inclusive of the AK-47 and M-4.

Electronic Privacy

Reader DSV sent in this article on how to stop your devices from listening to (and saving) everything you say. This is a good primer on some basic apps that people like that easily violate your privacy in ways you may not expect. It’s a good first step to take before you are ready to take Snowden’s recommendation of burning your microphone out of your phone (thus permanently voiding the phone’s warranty.)

Pre-Crime

Great Britain Threatens 15 Years in Prison for Repeatedly Watching ‘Terrorist Material’ Excerpt: “The UK is clearly embracing pre-crime here, since it’s clear someone watching terrorist propaganda in the privacy of their own home does not harm anyone else. Thus, this is a victimless crime, and as I’ve maintained on many occasions, I do not believe such a thing exists. If there’s no victim, there’s no crime.” – Remember that there is no such thing as the first or Second Amendment in the UK.

News Tips:

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. Pre-crime, say it ain’t so Uncle Bill. Along with Robot’s, camera’s, Sirius (spelling), and gun control. Great Britain is probably the proving ground.
Pre-crime, most think it was just the subject in a movie.
Where can I get the shiny foil wall paper in Conspiracy Theory?
If movies start to be real we had better re-watch them and take notes.

  2. Pre-crime:

This is not surprising. Their government is a monarchy (Her Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom – Wikipedia). People have no natural rights. They are granted privileges by their ruler. The privileges can be modified or revoked at any time.

That’s why living in a republic with common law is so much better. Sadly most people think we live in a democracy and have zero or almost zero understanding of the differences. I consider the word “democracy” a four-letter word.

  3. Second Amendment:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland#Military
“The structure of the Swiss militia system stipulates that the soldiers keep their Army issued equipment, including all personal weapons, at home.”

“Gun politics in Switzerland are unique in Europe in that a relatively high percentage (29%) of citizens are legally armed.”
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland

  4. the discussion of whether the right of the people to keep and bear a particular firearm could be Constitutionally infringed should always include a discussion of standing armies.

  5. In reference to the Second Amendment:

The only authority, under our Constitution, that the general government has is to set the MINIMUM standard of weapon that the citizen should keep and bear (own and carry). It requires no legislation unless they desire to expand the requirement from the State militias to include the general population, the whole body of the people.

That minimum standard would of course be a select-fire weapon in one of basically 4 calibers for a long gun (5.56 NATO, 7.62 NATO, .30-06, and 7.62×39), and semi auto pistol in one of 3 calibers (9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP).

Standard magazine capacities for all, 20+ for long guns and 13+1 to 17+1 depending on caliber for pistols.

I know all of the above has been detailed before in this blog. I will add one more thing: even the States, counties, and municipalities have only limited ability to deny the fundamental human right of self defense. It’s called due process. There must first be a crime committed, an investigation, an arrest, a charge, a trial and, most importantly, a conviction before such a right may be taken. And I might add that upon full, successful completion of one’s sentence, all rights denied must be restored.

Think about it, did the framers of the Second Amendment really stipulate that the general government should not infringe on the right to keep and bear, but that the States could? When they referred to “necessary to the security of a free state”, were they talking about the nonexistent State of America, or the individual States? Just remember, when they originally wrote the phrase the united States of America, the “U” in united was lower case, for a reason. Even, long after the dictator Lincoln, the USA was generally referred to as “the States”.
