Children in TEOTWAWKI, by J. Woo

…hugs and affirm her with positive words. | I use this example because you could be speaking your language of love, but your child is not hearing it. Learn your kid’s language early on and speak it frequently even if it is a “foreign” language to you. It may be awkward at first, but I promise that it will get easier with time. Check out Gary Chapman’s books on the five love languages.             There are numerous models for personality types. You can research online. Personality will make a huge impact on the dynamics of your team so you might want to include a simple personality test in your supplies. It is often helpful for people to realize that other teammates simply deal with circumstances differently. They are not trying to be difficult. (It just comes natural.) Children are going to be a part of the team. Building good team…

that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,…

…for sharing with us! GritsInMontana I enjoy reading everyone’s homesteading adventures for the week! Regarding the situation in our country, I find myself on edge. As I look at the images on the news, I keep saying “This is what it looks like… This is how a civil war starts.” I worked in a third world country torn by civil war back in the early 90s. There would be small flash points, then those flashpoint would spread like wildfire to all parts of the country. They resulted in horrible and nonsensical destruction of critical infrastructure (like when they bombed the hospital I worked in, which provided free medical care to all). When I left that place, I said I would never again have to see the horrors of civil war. Now, as I look at the news, I think I was very wrong… It is hard to see third world…

that Miss Violet washed and pitted. I have been experimenting with dehydrating broccoli. The varieties I grow are Calabrese and DiCoccio. A long story short: Two weeks ago, I dehydrated unblanched broccoli and put it in a jar, not labeled. A few days later, I blanched some broccoli and then dehydrated it and put it in a jar. I didn’t label it. I didn’t try it or taste it. I mentioned it in the blog this past weekend. A fellow preparedness blogger e-mailed me to ask about my success with the dehydrated broccoli. Hands-down, broccoli is her most favorite veggie and very sadly for her, she hasn’t had a lot of success growing it at her location, or dehydrating it. Aphids, and it not turning out nice with both freezing it and dehydrating it, have been her problems. So then when I received her e-mail, I ran to the kitchen…

The Invisible Prepper, by Grey Woman

Love, Laugh……. The Recovering Feminist Well said Grey Woman! “My point was that although we may differ in religious or political affiliation, it is possible that we may share more common ground than is immediately apparent” I concur. In fact, when we look deep inside, we see that there is something that binds us all together. Thus, we are called to love one another and that includes those who hate us. PEACE to you today! The Recovering Feminist Grey Woman, It sounds like you are a woman with a strong constitution and many talents. I appreciate your willingness to respond very much! If no one will say it, I will be the first. I love you Grey Woman and will be praying for you. Nothing too specific….just for peace of mind and success in your endeavor. I do not want you to be alone (that is not a reference to…

…The pop really is good for mental comfort that Im doing a good job but Im rarely rewarded with it! Thanks for any advice. I appreciate all of you! Anon @Tim Smith, Because I was hungry at times growing up, I’ve always erred on the safe side in the amount of stuff I plant in the garden. Thus, if I think I might need 2 rows of okra, I plant 8. If I think I might need 1 row of tomatoes, I plant 4, knowing that some will die and some won’t produce well, depending on the weather, bugs, etc. I am not a great gardener, actually. I would rather deal with the animals and let someone else deal with the garden. But I love to eat lots of garden produce fresh. And I am pretty good at canning it up. Very often, each year has a different focus, and…

…stock. I put in an order a week ago, but haven’t received a confirmation email and my card hasn’t been charged. DH fermented sour dough starter and made his first round of bread loaves. I will be putting them in the freezer. We stocked our deep freezer to the tippy top with meat. I took inventory of all we have. Now I’m worried about the freezer randomly breaking! So much meat is in it. I read people are having a harder time finding freezers in stock. I want a small power generator for the deep freeze at least. We live in hurricane zone. DH and I argued about it. He doesn’t see the need in one. When I mentioned the cheaper one from Harbor Freight, he shot it down. I’m sore about this subject, so I’ll leave it at that. I have lived in a small rural town for 3…

Relocating to The Yaak, by L.S.

Nurse kim Sounds like life in the Root. Anon Being a life long resident of the redoubt I have always been intrigued with the Yaak. I have heard that it is pretty difficult to make it there, That if the winters dont do you in, the remoteness will, So I suspect the turnover rate is pretty high there. When I lived in Coeur D’ Alene back in the 80’s I always wanted to move there. But I had more youth than money back then. You definitely have to have a steady income stream to live there. I have much respect for anyone who has made it their home. Old Guy I love your story and couldn’t agree with you more. When I convinced my wife to “retire” to the country a couple of years ago my first words of advice was to remember that country folks don’t forget and to…

How to Prepare When You’re The Only One- Part 3, by Patriotman

…person that something was wrong, he was not the type of person that I would want to hitch my wagon to. Not too sure about friend #2, not wanting to be in the middle. I’m of the opinion that if you’re not with me you’re “agin me!” There is no middle ground in a shtf situation. I’ve always felt that it’s better to get an issue out in the open and settle it, as opposed to being childish and “taking your toys and going home!” This brings me to the current issue: While I didn’t bare my soul to either of these “friends” I did share enough information to give me heartburn! They have a fair idea of what I have and where I have it, they certainly know my politics. And while I have an equal amount of knowledge about them, I also know I would never turn on…

…a family member who has no transportation. It was my first time in a grocery store in 2-3 weeks. It’s one thing to see barren shelves online but to see it in reality is depressing and scary. This weekend is rainy so it’s more indoor projects for now. Avalanche Lily Hi Sis, Supposedly, I have a better level of tolerance for duck eggs, but I haven’t tried them, yet. I’m kinda nervous about it. Also, I, personally, don’t like ducks around the place. I don’t like duck meat. It’s another type of animal to need housing for, of which the cleaning and caring for it and them, is another time sink. We have a lot of wild ones, which I like, very much, out on the river. But, because of the threat, in the past, of wild ducks possibly carrying Avian flu…and if we had ducks, the possibility of “our…

…the chicks are all doing great! Freezing cucumber juice is a good idea. I had wondered what to do with it when I shredded them for the tzatziki husband requested this week…now I know! 🙂 Stepping away from the computer is always more peaceful. It has fallen away this week but most of the time I have a little moment in the mornings (I volunteer for trash or recycling or compost duty to make it happen, or insist that I need to “check the mail” though it’s hours before it runs, haha)… I step OUTSIDE into the fresh air, look UP (we haven’t any hills or even small rises, but I can still raise my eyes unto the Lord, from Who comes my help!) and tell myself, aloud, “This IS the day that the Lord has made, and I WILL rejoice and be glad in it!” So school started for…

…and some have been up and running for 3 years. I recently replaced one which was destroyed in a F1 tornado that came thru our area, but all the others are still going strong. I either mistyped or auto-correct got me but the propane heater is not a stove. It is just a Buddy heater but it is so versatile as it can be used indoor or outdoors and hooked to small or large propane tanks. It has all the safety features on it for auto-cutoff, tip-over cutoff, etc. I can leave it running in the green house or in the camper or in the big dog house if the weather gets really nasty. I tried to find JWR’s amazon link but couldn’t see it on the website. Anyway, these are what I obtained. Propaganda and My Prepping – Part 3, by St. Funogas

that is the intended purpose for which the techniques are used. Propaganda (in the English language usage) is used for manipulating the populace, and yes, its most effective tool is fear. Advertising is used to “sell” in many forms and its chief motivator is avarice in its many manifestations. Free speech, free market, free choice to purchase or participate. It is that freedom of choice (even though it may be manipulated) that distinguishes advertising from propaganda in my mind. In addition to asking “cui bono” I have learned to ask “What are they NOT SAYING?” This is particularly apt in the current pandemic. The main theme of “only the old and sick are seriously affected” is being trumpeted from all sorts of official sources, so it’s not really a big deal is it? Young and healthy people don’t have to worry. But when the military will no longer enlist anyone…

…a notable anti-semitic/anti-zionist tone on the vast majority of its articles. It is also pretty “out there” and clearly qualifies as a “conspiracy theory” site. Note that when you get to the bottom of it “anti-zionist” is interpreted to mean that Israel does not have a right to exist. Is that really a site you want to quote? 3) Another link is to israelnationalnews.com which quotes Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef as stating that Gentiles must keep the Noahide Laws to live in Israel. I would point out that Israel already has severe restrictions imposed on imigration (Right of Return) and that they are a sovereign nation and have the right to determine their own immigration laws. If you disagree, then you must also be against Trumps southern wall for the U.S because it’s the same thing. Rabbi Yitzhak does not speak for anyone but his own movement and has made such…

…fake meat, I tell them to read the ingredients on their fair meat and tell which is healthier. Real meat will always win as fake meat has lots of synthetic garbage added to it in an attempt to imitate meat. Avalanche Lily Acid Reflux can totally mimic a heart attack. I have had first hand experience with this, more times than I’d like to recount. Especially, in the past when I’d eat oatmeal, chicken and it’s fat, tomato sauce, chocolate and an orange in one day…(I no longer eat chocolate). Ooh baby! That is a baaad combination. A huge glass of cold water, jumping up and down and some baking soda, usually cures it for me… However it is very disconcerting to have it strike early in the morning, when you’ve barely eaten anything in the day. I pray that, that is all it is. BWL A couple of tips…
