Letter: The Real Restrictions of Australia’s Gun Laws on its Citizens

HJL,

Just wanted to give your readers a taste of what our Australian “Gun Control Act” has meant to law abiding Aussie shooters in light of the articles on “Preparing for the Inevitable American Gun Ban”.

  1. A firearms license is required for all transactions involving firearms, firearm parts (not accessories) and all ammunition sales (license number and amount of ammunition purchased is recorded).
  2. All semi automatic firearms are restricted to an extremely regulated and difficult to obtain Primary Producers License (regardless of caliber).
  3. All handgun licenses are for competition shooting only (or Security Industry), handgun magazines are restricted to 10 rounds maximum, calibers above .357, .38 and 9mm are restricted to members of clubs that shoot silhouette competitions, and range attendance cards must be completed with mandated minimum number of shoots attended per year and per “style” of shoot as your handgun purpose is listed for (IPSC, Western Action, Silhouette etc) and forwarded to Firearms Branch of the State of residence.
  4. Semi automatic and pump action shotguns are again restricted to extremely regulated and difficult to obtain license classes.
  5. Magazine capacity limits on bolt, pump and lever action rifles. Aftermarket magazines restricted to select Brands/Names rather than function, appearance etc.
  6. Conversion kits (ie .45 to .22 caliber) are recorded as a separate firearms not as two parts of the same.
  7. Each state has differing requirements for storage, magazine capacities, license conditions, and one state has a ban on “military style or military appearance” firearms which has immediate seizure of firearms and no allowance to change the stock on a Ruger 77/22 back to a “standard” rifle stock from a “military appearance” one, or then to sell that stock interstate where it is legal.
  8. Firearms are not allowed for personal protection or defense in any form. Lawful, licensed firearm users that have held armed intruders for arrest with their unloaded, lawful firearm have had all their firearms seized and confiscated (including firearms being licensed to their spouse/partner) and have faced months of legal battles for the return of their firearms. If a single firearm is stolen – every firearm is seized by Police regardless if it is locked in a separate safe in a separate room, until their investigation is concluded.
  9. Firearms legislation contains deliberately vague terms such as aforementioned “military appearance” and the term “fit and proper person”. If the Police decide you should not have firearms they will use any history of speeding offenses, parking tickets etc. to demonstrate that you have little to no regard for the law, and therefore are not a “fit and proper person” to hold a firearms license.
  10.  As per usual we face a hostile media who allow Gun Control Advocates unrestricted open forum discussions to put forward their views, opinions and “facts”, and when their “facts” are exposed as lies no retractions are made or one sentence is buried in a report or in the back pages of a newspaper to correct those “facts”.

Please, please, please be vigilant and call for restrictive gun laws and control measures to be repealed, value your freedoms enshrined in The Constitution, and don’t ever let things get to the stage that they are here in Oz.

Cheers, – Aussie Shooter.

  1. What a sickening thing this is! Obviously no one in power in Australia remembers WW2, when the ptb in Great Britain had to appeal to American sportsmen for guns to arm the home guard, as all British production was given over to trying to arm the military. And I still recall seeing barges loaded with the “given” firearms being towed out to sea for disposal shortly, possibly immediately, after the war!

Back to the Australian issue: It is to me unfathomable and unconscionable that the good people of Australia so willingly rolled over to allow this gun control, regardless of the “law” that passed. I was always of the impression that Australia was peopled by rugged, tough, pioneer types that took no guff and booked no quarter in a fight! I can already hear the wailing “But we would have been arrested!” Possibly, even probably, at least initially, but look at what your compliance has gotten you! What you have allowed to happen is reminiscent of the Jews in Nazi Germany, when the brown shirts did their deeds time after time, night after night, without fear, first because they knew or assumed the populace had been disarmed, but mostly because they knew they were dealing with cowering, subservient and generally spineless people that were NOT GOING TO RESIST! I believe it was a Russian author and survivor of the gulags that said the roundups and imprisonment of Russians would not have taken place if Stalin’s goons had known they might get hurt or killed doing their dirty deeds…….. Knowing what I do about the Australians as soldiers in WW2, Korea and Viet Nam, I find it hard to categorize the men, the people, of Australia into a group of sheeple, but facts and actions or lack thereof speak volumes! SAD!

Moving on to what I will call my area of “expertise”…………I was a law enforcement officer in the once great state of Kalif from the early 70’s till 2010, before fleeing to the freedom of Idaho, and while I was basically exempt from the draconian laws being passed, it grated on me to see others being saddled with unjust and unconstitutional laws. The solution was simple: Passive ignoring of the laws, by both officers and everyday citizens. Laws that aren’t enforced aren’t much good, and since the liberal legislators weren’t going to allow them to be changed, we ignored them! There was and is little doubt in my mind that exempting law enforcement officers from the bulk of the gun control laws was “throwing us a fish” to keep “us” on the side of “law and order” if it can be called that, figuring that “we” would be beholden in the future. It didn’t work! Regardless of what the state has now become, during the time period I mentioned, there was massive non compliance to start with. You want us to register what? NO WAY! And their registration schemes failed! Then it was “You can have it if you register it, because were making it illegal.” Same thing, massive non compliance! And on and on, till it reached the point of “we ain’t giving ’em up, so what are you going to do about it?” The laws were passed but basically NO ONE paid heed. Me as an officer, and the majority of my companions and partners in the trade, chose to ignore the unjust laws that were being imposed, using them ONLY to enhance sentences for drug dealers and other high grade miscreants. They were a useful tool and nothing more. It was obvious then and more so now that the laws passed were not about crime and public safety, they were to disarm the everyday citizen, to remove their ability to defend themselves, forcing them to rely on the government for protection, but more than anything, to remove the ability of the citizenry to resist government dictates! And this is douobly true in Australia today!

While Kalif might have had some of the most stringent laws around, they had no fangs. But it is “a changin!” So many citizen sheep that are finding it easier to “Go along to get along” without realizing they are setting themselves up to be eaten! Allowing themselves to be coerced into letting politicians tell them what they can and can’t have, what they can and can’t buy and use, while making sure they passed laws exempting themselves from all gun control legislation is telling people that “you and I are different” …….and the good citizens allowing this to happen!

This is what stuns me about Australia! Where does the government get so many brown shirts, men that are willing to do what they are told regardless of the obviousness of the wrong in their actions? Are they so caught up in their “power” that they are willing to sell their souls for the sake of their socialist government? Do these people have no knowledge of history? Do they not care about their fellows? Obviously not! I would love to hear from Aussies about this little rant of mine! Nothing gets me hotter than gun control, Kalif, unjust laws no matter where, sheep that will not resist, and lemmings that follow along blindly! Do any of y’all have pitchforks?

    1. I found naming the Jews spineless as insulting as dishonest, look for one exampla at the uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Stalin Goons had their own Military as backup, and btw. they meet Resistence…

Hos did the american goverment get the men who conquered the territory of the USA?

      1. Well truth hurts sometimes and and the Warsaw Uprising came about because they were like wounded animals lashing out before they died…That’s like letting yourself be put in a prison and when you find out they are killing the other prisoners you decide that your dead anyway and you start fighting…

    2. @grayfox114 ,great post . As a resident of the peoples republik of Kalifornia-stan , this is ground zero for gun control , as you well know .

Curious , how many of your fellow peace officers in “kalif ” , feel the way you do ? Since you’ve left ,the gun law’s have become progressively worse .

” gunmageddon ” , has come & gone , yes , there will be lawsuits & hopefully some if not all of the ” kalif” draconian gun laws will be thrown in the trash , i’m not holding my breath though .

So the only solution , is passive resistance , as you mentioned in your post . ” Kalif ” is surrounded by free america , folks will smuggle in ” contraband ” as they have no other choice .

How’s the war on drugs going ?

The marxist politicians in this wretched state , know this . Death by a thousand cuts , those who get caught with ” contrband ” , will now be thrust into the ” just-us ” system & could potentially loose their 2A Rights for life .

I wish i could vote with my feet { seems to be the answere , for those living in free america } & leave kalifornia-stan , however i can’t . Being a middle aged gen-x’er , with a good job & pension , that’s not going to happen , unless some sort of life changing event takes place .

Here’s some food for thought …

“Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim – when he defends himself – as a criminal. ” – Frederick Bastiat

“When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law”.- Frederick Bastiat

Regards , from beneath the iron fist of the cali-ban ; where it’s either illegal or mandatory !

      S .J .

      1. And you can’t get a place outside of California in a free state at least to have somewhere to flee to if it turns bad? Like I said people are just to comfortable yet to do anything proactive…

        1. @Lineman , firearm’s have two enemies ,rust & politicians . Where’s to run ? The colonist’s didn’t run from the british ” they ” the {colonist’s} shot ” them ” the {british} & their hired goons { hessians }

When the time comes , i’ll look elswere , outta state .Running to the ” rawles redoubt” ” is not always the answere , when life doesn’t go our way .

Are ” we ” going to sit around growing old ,surrounded by our prep’s , as “we” watch our natural / god given right’s wither away on the vine of liberty ?

“When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law”.- Frederick Bastiat

          S .J.

          1. Hmm…I don’t even know where to start with that one and with your response I don’t even know if you could objectively look at my reply with reason and thought…So just stay where you are…

          2. @Lineman , reason & thought huh ?

Your response was clear & cut for me to understand . Why doe’s it matter where i live ? Or choose to live ? I do appreciate your first comment on the matter .

As to what state i reside in , that’s information i volunteered , no big deal right ? It’s easy to sit in free america & look down your nose at those who are trapped behind enemy lines .

            Let’s do a hypothetical , shall we .

Ol’ silky johnson has had enough of the marxist dingdong’s in his home state , so off he go’s to free america . Silky get’s all settled in & life is great in ” free america ” .

Alas ! A major demographic voting change in his ” free state{the gov & both houses turn a hard left } ” along at the federal level . Potous is uber liberal , & so are both houses .

A string of mass shootings happens , maybe false flag maybe not . A public outcry results , ” we must do something to protect the public ” . Sound familiar ?

            Again , firearm’s have two enemies , rust & politicians .

Lineman , i’ll stand with you shoulder to shoulder to fight for what’s right . However don’t insult me , with your ” reason & thought ” snide comment .

Just because i live behind enemy lines , doesn’t make me the enemy . Also , as a judicial reminder , the 9th circuit court of appeals , covers alot of ground . Including the ” rawles redoubt ” . This matters , because their ” rulings ” affect alot of people , including 2A rights .Want to rely on scotus to have our backs ?

As a radical for Laissez Faire capitalism , & objectivism , it’s a fair assumption to say that i can think & reason for myself , thank you .

perhaps i don’t articulate that as well as others on here , pffftt so what .

            Agree to dis-agree , fair enough ?

Maybe i’ll stay where i ‘m at , maybe not , no guarantee ‘s in life , other than death & taxes .

            S . J .

          3. @Lineman , i’m asking a favor of you & anyone who reads this message .

Go over to youtube & watch reid henrich’s video titled ” sunshine patriot’s & middle ground gun control .

            My sentiment’s exactly .

            S.J.

          4. You are putting words in my mouth Brother and I don’t have the time or effort to argue with you…My offer has always been to help because I’ve been in your shoes and have been able to make it work with some sacrifices…

          5. Silky Johnson & Lineman:
Both of you gentlemen have outstanding points and weather you two see it or not your both cut from the same cloth, both want the fight, weather on the battlefield or the the voting box. Both believe in standing ones ground irregardless of what state either of you are in or speaking on this Blog. These are all VERY good points.
However, I have to cede one fine point, Kommunist Korruptifornia is in the process of IMPLODING in on itself!!!! I saw this coming 15 years ago the writing was on the wall. I left Kommunist Korruptifornia after the ‘Stop The Anti-Gun Bill’ not only did not make it off our ’emolyees’ desk it found it’s way into a paper shredder very quickly, after that I figured it was time for a new game plan. So now I prep and sit and wait for the SHTF here in S.Oregun and will be the one of first, when the Golden Hordes head out of Kommunist Korruptifornia in search of food and what ever else they can steal, to intercept them and help usher them along there way, that being said….
            I realized at that time;
We need to stand together wherever we live.
We need and are compelled to evaluate everything our ’employees’ say and do IT IS OUR CIVIC DUTY to so, and we need to continue to do so with Extreme Authority!
And we need these truths and more now than ever!
            Stay Frosty America!
            Semper Fi!

          6. The thing is Brother when someone doesn’t even read what I wrote he just goes off on a tangent then I have a hard time even talking to him let alone reasoning with him…

    3. Part of the problem with passive civil disobedience with regard to gun laws is that MOST cops ignoring the law is not good enough. All it takes is one. Allowing bad laws to remain is similar to allowing a cancer to remain because it has not metastasized yet. What should happen is a mass uprising of citizens AND lawmen TOGETHER demanding the law be repealed and the sponsors of it be run out of office. Passive disobedience is simply kicking the can down the road. In addition, while I understand the desire to leave Kaliformia, allowing ones state to fall to communism and then running off to live elsewhere is not the optimal solution. Kalifornians and others for decades have allowed their state houses to destroy liberty in their states, and are now exiting in large numbers, going to places not yet ruined. News flash. For whatever reason, whatever idiocy originates in Kalifornia or NY eventually spreads like cancer across the nation. I wish the citizens of those states would have done the hard thing, which is fix their own state, rather than allowing it to become a tumor threatening the rest of the nation. Look at it like this. What assurance do the rest of us have, once you move in next to us, that the passive mindset you exhibited back in Kalifornia has in any way changed? Frankly, your past actions leave me pretty darn sure that I can in no way expect any help from you when push finally comes to shove in my state.

      1. I left Kalif for any number of reasons, the politics being the biggie. I was tireless in my vocal opposition to what was happening there, using every avenue short of overt violence. I still communicate my feelings in writing every chance I get, even though I no longer reside there. The politicians have ruined it, and are going for more. While I was a Cali resident, my frustration with my friends and relatives over their totally passive attitude regarding what was going on made me want to scream! They were too busy to contact their reps, they wouldn’t write letters,(won’t do any good, besides, I don’t want to be put on a list)and they were confident the NRA or some other organization would carry their water for them. A quick look at the state of the state should tell you all you need to know about how that worked out! You talk about my passive mindset…..exactly what actions do you think I should have taken while I was being so passive? And what actions do you take, or contemplate taking, that won’t land your butt in jail where you can do NO GOOD? While my past actions may lead you to the wrongful conclusion that you can’t expect any help from me when push comes to shove, I would suggest that you leave the psychoanalyzing to experts! You have no clue about what help, what type of help, might be available from me in a push/shove situation, but one thing you can bank on is that I won;t be locked up prior for doing something stupid.

        1. @ Old Gray Wolf , perhaps i should have chosen my words more wisely . Let’s change ” passive resistance ” to “massive non compliance ” . Work for you ?

My philosophical foundation is constitutional deism , along with ayn rand’s objectivism & i vote as such . Even if i where to move to free america , no, i will not vote for those who wish to strip me of my natural / god given right’s to self defense . That , i can , frankly assure you .

I can’t speak for the others in my home state , who are fleeing to greener pastures ,i understand your point & sediment . I loathe & despise socialism ,fascism & communism as much as my fellow red blooded american’s who post on here .

It is what it is , for my current situation & i have to deal with it .My Responsibilities are here for the forseable future . So when you mentioned ” you ” i hope it wasn’t in the context of myself .

It’s very hard to articulate a point behind a computer screen without human interaction & body language to go with it .

I gave a little bit of my background & where i stand in my way of thinking , so in my future post’s, there are no mis-understandings.

The way i see it , ALL OF US must stand together as a collective of like minds IF we are to defeat the deep state .

@Grayfox114 , as a life member of the nra , i too am in the trenches for the battle over man’s right’s . I’ve done everything you mentioned to rally the troops only to be let down hen the cards where stacked against us.

Being on ” list ” pfffft , i wear that with a badge of honor ! Because of my security sensitive job , i’ve gotta do the live scans & the intensive background checks etc .. ” they ” know who i am & where to find me . No worries .

You’re one of the lucky ones to escape , eventually , california will suffer a massive economic collapse .

It has to , there’s no voting our way out of this mess .Those who will suffer the most , state gov’t employees & others who are feeding on the nipple of freebies ,at the expense of the working man .

Altruism will be the death of this once great state , & eventually the u.s.a. if it doe’s not change it’s economic ways.

As ayn rand said ” the only difference between a welfare state & totalitarian state is time , and time is running out ” .

          My final thought …

I once saw a movie where only the military & police had weapons . That movie is called Schindler’s List .

          Regards , gentleman .

          S.J.

    4. Australian Shooter:
OUTSTANDING ARTICLE!!!!, and above all THANX, for the info, and for knocking some sense into us here in the U.S.. I sit here and weep for you and your fellow countrymen over the what has transpired in your country I pray for you and your fellow countrymen.
Grayfox114: Well said sir! I’am so pissed over everything said so far in this part of the Blog and on top of that I’ve been reading the 3 Part Gun Confiscation article……..’I’m Angry And I’m Not Gonna Take It’ attitude has really reached I’ts limit for now! Well I’ll just read on for now and comment later. Very Pissed!!!!

    5. grayfox114

I have sat here and given throught how to give you and perhaps other Americans some well thought out answers to some of the questions you pose to Australian gun owners, of course I cannot speak for anyone else but me, the best way I think is to give you my experiences gained over 35 years as a active member in a several prominant shooting organizations as a observant and astute gun owner. Before begining, are you aware that ALL licenced gun owners are placed on the national database of CRIMTRAC ? ( yes, it is as the name suggests ) this database places registered licence holders ( past and present ) with known sex offenders, thieves, murderers etc.

      * In some states eg ( Vic ) when applying for a permit to aquire, you are required to give your fingerpints to the Police and fill out about 11 pages of particulars of your personal information
BEFORE being granted Police approval ( the information is not destroyed).

” This is what stuns me about Australia! Where does the government get so many brown shirts, men that are willing to do what they are told regardless of the obviousness of the wrong in their actions? Are they so caught up in their “power” that they are willing to sell their souls[ YES] for the sake of their socialist government?[ YES] Do these people have no knowledge of history?[ ITS FORGOTTEN] Do they not care about their fellows? [NO] ”

I came from one parent who was German, the other Czech, they came from a destroyed Europe ravaged by a brutal War, most of my fathers family died in the Gulags under the Stalinst secret Police roundups, the Czechs recorded gun serial numbers of each indivdual home before and who had what before the Russians invaded, moral ? NEVER register your guns !!!!.

So how does that relate to Australia ?, well simply put, most gun owners declare shooting as a ” sport ” and are happy with the licensing systems, I have hundreds of letters of gun owners in my files writing that firearms ownership is not a right in Australia and never should be and is sport ! , you pose the questions where are the WW1 and WW2 ANZACS ?, the rugged independant spirit ?, the pioneering grit ?, sadly, they are mostly dead, the ones who do not go along with the vast apathy of being compliant yes men, are the ones who come from immigrants of Germans, Poles, Russians,Czechs,Latvians, Estonians, this group have a inherrant distrust of government and the Police, did you know that one gun shop in Australia sold over 300,000 SKK rifles ? that is just one ! they were selling like hot cakes during the late 80s and early 90’s, during the Howard gun buy back less than 60,000 were handed in, so guess where the others are ?, then there are ten’s of thousands of pump shotguns, WW2 era guns buried as well.

To answer your last question, yes, people DO arm themselves with base ball bats, home made nun chucks, home made pepper spray, knives, spear guns, compound bows, people I know DO get creative, the rule is always, always be silent about what you have.

One last story from me, 30 years ago, I lived in a big city, we lived along a main road, after 7pm or so the road was almost deserted , the road led to a river with a hotel by the water, one night a man picked up a under age girl who had drunk far too much, he offered her a lift, she excepted, as they were driving along he asked her if she liked rough sex [ rape ] she freaked out, bailed out of the car while it was moving, she got up and ran into our front yard, he stopped the car, and came across our front yard with a broken beer bottle in his hand, raging, the girl was screaming and cowering in fear , I heard the ruckus, stepped out in front of her with a mossberg 590 and told him I would blow his head apart. He froze, dropped the bottle and ran away, the girl ran away, my wife had called the cops, they came 40 mins later, he was never caught, the girl never found, all the neighbors shut their windows, no lights came on.She was going to be raped and worse, so my self posed question if the same situation occured in 2018 would I behave the same way ?, my honest answer ? truthfully ?, no, unless my family is directly threatened, I will call the police. Today I would go to Gaol or face tens of thousands in legal fee’s regardless of the type of gun I use. Does this perhaps answer some of your questions ? now I pick my battles, rant over.

      1. Again, it’s a sad state of affairs in Australia….Gun owners have been neutered to a great degree. And while it is somewhat commendable that many gun owners refused to hand their guns in, either hiding them or burying them, the result is almost as good as confiscation: The guns are “off the streets and not accessible, or readily accessible.” I wish I could give you an answer to the issue…….Actually, there really is an answer, but it’s not one I can print here. Refer to the earlier posting and the quote from Solzhenistin about the brown shirts and the actions people should have taken. How long do you think it would be before the overbearing lackeys would thing before they acted? As JWR said, we do not advocate revolution or armed insurrection, but there is another saying: It’s either the ballot box or the bullet box! Prayers!

        1. grayfox114

I agree with you totally, burying firearms is no answer. The ballot box does not work only one other option is there ?, the politicians learned after the uproar of hundreds of thousands of gun owners backlash in 1996, the electoral boundaries were changed [ preference party allocation ], ballot boxs were tampered with along with vote rigging, various politicians who where ” pro gun ” were offered back room deals and so on, the few large players in the firearms industry who are the distributers of big name items like, Ruger, Colt, Sako etc all rely heavily upon towing the Government line, if they don’t, their govt contracts get taken from them. Pray for us ?…..yes……

Sadly the Australian govt has just anounced that we [they ] will be joining the list of the top 20 arms suppliers in the world [ can’t trust us plebs with guns, no problem selling to our ” friends ” though] I just find that a little sickening.

  2. Shamelessly stolen from the Lawdog Files Blog:

“We cannot negotiate with those who say, ‘What’s mine is mine, and what’s yours is negotiable.'”

    — John F. Kennedy, Address to the American People, 25 JUL 1961

Most people tend to substitute the word ‘compromise’ for the first ‘negotiate’ in that quote, and it does tend to fit the current circumstances.

Once again the anti-gun people are starting to trot out the tired and hackneyed meme of “compromise” in the “national gun conversation”.

One of the more highly linked of my posts is the one about the “Gun Rights Cake” analogy, which I will now re-post and expand a bit:

I hear a lot about “compromise” from the gun-control camp … except, it’s not compromise.

    Allow me to illustrate:

Let’s say I have this cake. It is a very nice cake, with “GUN RIGHTS” written across the top in lovely floral icing. Along you come and say, “Give me that cake.”

I say, “No, it’s my cake.”

You say, “Let’s compromise. Give me half.” I respond by asking what I get out of this compromise, and you reply that I get to keep half of my cake.

Okay, we compromise. Let us call this compromise The National Firearms Act of 1934.

This leaves me with half of my cake and there I am, enjoying my cake when you walk back up and say, “Give me that cake.”

I say — again: “No, it’s my cake.”

You say, “Let’s compromise.” What do I get out of this compromise? Why, I get to keep half of what’s left of the cake I already own.

So, we compromise — let us call this one the Gun Control Act of 1968 — and this time I’m left holding what is now just a quarter of my cake.

And I’m sitting in the corner with my quarter piece of cake, and here you come again. You want my cake. Again.

This time you take several bites — we’ll call this compromise the Clinton Executive Orders — and I’m left with about a tenth of what has always been MY DAMN CAKE and you’ve got nine-tenths of it.

Let me restate that: I started out with MY CAKE and you have already ‘compromised’ me out of ninety percent of MY CAKE …

… and here you come again. Compromise! … Lautenberg Act (nibble, nibble). Compromise! … The HUD/Smith and Wesson agreement (nibble, nibble). Compromise! … The Brady Law (NOM NOM NOM). Compromise! … The School Safety and Law Enforcement Improvement Act (sweet tap-dancing Freyja, my finger!)

After every one of these “compromises” — in which I lose rights and you lose NOTHING — I’m left holding crumbs of what was once a large and satisfying cake, and you’re standing there with most of MY CAKE, making anime eyes and whining about being “reasonable”, and wondering “why we won’t compromise” as you try for the rest of my cake.

In 1933 I — or any other American — could buy a fully-automatic Thompson sub-machine gun, a 20mm anti-tank gun, or shorten the barrel of any gun I owned to any length I thought fit, silence any gun I owned, and a host of other things.

Come your “compromise” in 1934, and suddenly I can’t buy a sub-machine gun, a silencer, or a Short-Barreled Firearm without .Gov permission and paying a hefty tax. What the hell did y’all lose in this “compromise”?

In 1967 I, or any other American, could buy or sell firearms anywhere we felt like it, in any State we felt like, with no restrictions. We “compromised” in 1968, and suddenly I’ve got to have a Federal Firearms License to have a business involving firearms, and there’s whole bunch of rules limiting what, where and how I buy or sell guns.

In 1968, “sporting purpose” — a term found NOT ANY DAMNED WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION, TO SAY NOTHING OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT — suddenly became a legal reason to prevent the importation of guns that had been freely imported in 1967.

Tell me, do — exactly what the hell did you lose in this 1968 “compromise”?

The Lautenberg Act was a “compromise” which suddenly deprived Americans of a Constitutional Right for being accused or convicted of a misdemeanor — a bloody MISDEMEANOR! What did your side lose in this “compromise”?

I could go on and on, but the plain and simple truth of the matter is that a genuine “compromise” means that both sides give up something. My side of the discussion has been giving, giving, and giving yet more — and your side has been taking, taking, and now wants to take more.

For you, “compromise” means you’ll take half of my cake now, and the other half of my cake next time. Always has been, always will be.

I’ve got news for you: That is not “compromise”.

I’m done with being reasonable, and I’m done with “compromise”. Nothing about gun control in this country has ever been “reasonable” nor a genuine “compromise”, and I have flat had enough.

    1. Very well put LawDog. I have never heard it put so simply or elegantly. While these techniques are readily used by the Left it goes even further. When I hear the words Bi-Partisan from politicians I am reminded that Compromise may be OK if you are buying/selling a dozen eggs or other physical items, as this is just setting the price while not changing the item. This doesn’t hold true for rights or principles, These are not bargain able. To compromise your rights or principles is to admit you have neither, and as such you cannot be trusted to look out for the publics welfare. People please chose your representatives well, rely on their previous deeds. If they do not match their campaign promises vote for someone else, as they have no principles; keep in mind there are millions of qualified people who will serve us as Legitimate Principled Representatives, we need not just have to accept Party Hacks, or Career Politicians. We have to stop being Boiled Frogs for a few crumbs of cake. It is our duty as patriots to pass freedom along to the next generations and I fear we have failed dismally at this sacred trust for which we all bear some responsibility by having bargained off our principles and so have few left. Just for the sake of harmony and one-sided illegitimate “compromises”. We also have let down our Veterans and Law Enforcement Officers who put their lives on the line for our freedoms to be perverted by Politicians, Judges and Lawyers. Vigilance and action on our part is required if we are to pass down the legacy of Freedom to the children.”Vote Well and Often as they say in Chicago.”

    2. LawDog:

I agree with 99.99% of everything you wrote – with the exception of your definition of the word ‘compromise’ in this context. I prefer to ask:
What happens to a submerged submarine whose hull integrity has been compromised? This context fully describes what has happened to the 2nd Article and Amendment as a result of those pieces of legislation you described.

Remember – ALL unconstitutional laws are null and void AT THE MOMENT OF INCEPTION!

      1. So no more IRS, federal reserve, income tax, etc..?

The banking act of 1913 was a midnight run around objectionists, and if it wasn’t for so much money, would have been deemed unconstitutional long ago.

  3. I agree that America must be vigilant in fighting Gun Control Laws. BUT in America, there are some of here who will still take up arms and fight if some legislation were to be passed. Whether we win or loose the fight does not matter… We will fight… who on the other side wants to die for Gun Control to be implemented? Now if you have the armed population that refuses to take it to the streets when draconian laws are passed.. Then you deserve to live with what regulations you have

  4. Wow. This should be a major wake-up call to Americans. Will it?

I’ll never forget New Years’ Eve 2011. With a stroke of a pen the the Republicans’ NDAA destroyed our Bill of Rights. How did we respond?

Where does the future hold? Read ‘Death by Government’ by R. J. Rummel.

  5. What a great article. I never fully understood what the Australian gun ban consisted of, which I should have, being a 2nd Amendment supporter and gun owner. I reposted this story with a link back to SurvivalBlog to my Facebook page to help more gun owners understand what it means when you hear politicians say we need more common sense gun laws like Australia. Thanks.

  6. Some things are not to be considered at the time of need. A decision must be made ahead of the event and a plan created and trained for, if one is to handle the event correctly. If you do not decide now what your response to gun legislation and/or confiscation efforts, you are preparing to fail when the event arrives. If you do not create a plan of action for that event now, you will be ineffective in your response to it when it arrives.

A lion does not concern itself with the opinions of sheep. Whatever neighbors, family, government, employers, or pretty much anybody thinks, our right of self defense and possession of effective tools for that purpose, is non-negotiable. Until we reach that level in our own minds, there will always be a serious chance of being the coward who gives up his rights and property at the demand of men lesser than himself. A mental state must be created, and a plan and training implemented, if we are to acquit ourselves as men when the situation presents itself. I will trade the approval of everyone else I know for the loyalty of one person who will stand with me on that day. Failing that, I wil, stand alone. What I will not do, cannot do, is live with myself after surrendering my most precious rights and property to those I despise, out of simple fear. I have never practiced that to date, and am too old to start now.

  7. Fortunately for us in the United States, we can look to Australia and England as an example of what NOT to do when gun grabbers initiate subversive regulations.
We should read more articles like this.
I have hope that the United States had a more ingrained gun culture that will not cede any more ground to the gun grabbing Marxists.

    1. Not a chance, Ned. Too many lemmings. They pick at the edges until they get something to grab ahold of, and rip at it.

I don’t want to be a conspiracy theorist, but seriously, which gun massacre was conducted by a conservative NRA type?

  8. The feedback here makes me proud to consider myself a part of this forum. Though tempers appropriately flare from time to time, compare the logical, fact/history-based literacy put forward by those who defend American heritage, and the convoluted psycho-babble of the Left. If only we could make the young and new Americans understand…

Grayfox114, the Soviet Gulag survivor of whom you spoke was Alexandre Solzhenitsyn, early supporter of the Bolshevik Revolution and first-hand victim of the capriciousness of Stalin. He wrote “The Gulag Archipelago” after surviving many Gulag years and successfully defecting to America. His words are haunting (quoted here in “Boston’s Gun Bible”): “…At what exact point, then, should one resist…? …How we burned in the prison camps later thinking: what would have things been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if during periods of mass arrests people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand…The [police] would have quickly suffered a shortage of officers…and notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt. If…if… We didn’t love freedom enough. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened thereafter.”
Friends, our Founding Fathers gave us far more than “axes, hammers, pokers”. If we allow confiscation, we will “simply deserve everything that happens thereafter”.
Perhaps the revitalization of the Constitutional Militia under the auspices of the local and state governments (as suggested by Edwin Vieira, Jr. and David M. Zuniga) bears the best chance of stemming this tide short of disaster, but this plan is tricky, and requires much time, dedication, and COURAGE – commodities wanting in much of the American populace (yes… me too). I just don’t know.
Lastly, I ran into an Aussie at my shooting club in Georgia a few years back, and took the opportunity to pump him with Grayfox’ rant, virtually word-for-word! He said (in that wonderful Aussie accent), “You see Yank, we Australians don’t distrust our government like you Americans do.”. To which I asked, “why are you over here?”. He smiled, and continued shooting.

      Great Post Btw !

  9. I am not the author of this as I read this oi another blog’s comment section. My apologies to the original author. We would do well to memorize the “Prime Directive”.

There’s 3 things the dirty filthy stinking commies want.
    It is how they roll:
    Guns
    Belongings
    Lives
What have those 3 things in common?
    They are all alike.
    They constitute property.
    Its the first thing: Property
Do not be fooled, do not be swayed, do not be bushwhacked, do not be conned.
Guns are property. This is the First thing.
Guns are as much property as anything you own. If they try to take your gun, your property, they are doing so because your gun as property is all what stands in their way of all other property you own, (remember, they have taken almost everything, as a nation, the collective inherent wealth as a nation, our outward reflected legacy as a Christian Western people and all for which it stands).
The gun is the most unique property there is. It is the only property which can be used to defend itself hence it defends all other property.
Can you understand why guns are so unique in all property a man can posses?
You win they loose by refusing by any means possible denying them any of your property.
Without property you not only have no liberty you have no life.
To take away your gun is the ultimate in larceny. It is also the ultimate in surrender. To surrender your gun is to surrender all that you own. Because now you have no property to defend your property. That sounds simple but it is a concept, a reality, which many can not comprehend in all its truth. If a plurality of us refuse to give up our guns even unto our death, we win because in refusing we will kill so many commies there is not enough left to take anymore guns.
The gun, your gun, is your primal property. You must get that in your head and your heart. Nothing else matters. If you can not comprehend the primal nature of guns as property as the first thing you will loose. And you will follow the hundreds of millions who have perished into genocide by the hand of the greatest thieves of the human race.
Do not give up your property, your gun.
When you understand in your heart what this means, all else follows.
    It is The Prime Directive.
The prime directive of their tyranny is to take our guns.
The prime directive of our liberty is to never give up our guns.
If you can not grok this fundamental building block of the foundation of liberty you can not understand, in full, what liberty is, by that you can not fight tyranny with all the weapons you possess with all your being.
This is critically important because defending ones Property: your guns, your possessions, your life, your land, your loved ones, your freedoms, your faith, your spirit, hence your motive power and yes your audacity of will and consent requires a bedrock comprehension that all these things are one & the same, they are part & parcel, they constitute a whole, the only Constitution which is valid and which is all that is required to exist free, that to be denied one is to essentially be denied all. That liberty is the sum of all its components.
    Don’t give up your guns.
    I mean it.
Do Not Give Up Your Guns.
Refusing to give up your guns is the ultimate form of withdrawal of consent.
It is the greatest weapon ever conceived.
    Be proud of your property.
    Cherish your property.
    Never betray your property.
Love your property because nothing else is as stead fast and loyal, a projection of who you are and what you stand for and refuse to surrender, as your gun.
    Do not be fooled.
    This is all about guns.
    Who has guns.
    Who doesn’t have guns.
    Who rules the guns.
Who is ruled by the guns.
    Everything else is secondary.
People ask: what does the shit hit the fan look like?
Answer: you’re looking at it. It is guns they are coming for now. The preliminary softening up of the people has ended. All that diversity convergence bs was dress rehearsal for taking our guns.
It was to dis-arm us of our sense of who we are as Free Men so to make it that much easier to disarm us of all of our property right down to the liberty in our hearts, ultimately our lives, it is the precept of all Communist/Marxist intent, to take everyone’s property. All that stands in the filthy stinking commies way is our guns in the hands of us who will never surrender either.
Now do you understand the prime directive?

  10. In the early days of government offices having e-mail addresses, I wrote to whatever department in Australia which corresponds with our own FBI. I wanted to get information about gun laws in Australia, thinking I might compare them with US law and write about it. Instead of getting what I asked for, I got a scathing e-mail chastising the US for it’s gun lovers, etc. Boy, was that a shocker to me and confirms to me that I never want to live in a place like Australia.

  11. Dear American friends, this is an excellent article, but it needs updating. Late in 2017 the states all brought in legislation to allegedly advance gun safety. This meant new high security safes and CCTV systems. The police are already turning up at people’s doors to check that the new regulations are being meet. The aim is to squeeze gun ownership out of existence by making safety conditions too difficult to meet. If the editor is interested I could do an article on this. All God-fearing Americans need to study what has happened in this country because the Satanic New World Order aims to destroy Christian gun ownership in your wonderful land.

  12. In answer to the Airsoft gun question – they are a banned item here in Australia under the Customs Act. Items such as the Sig Sauer P226 in .177 cal – this is a firearm falling under the H (Handgun) Class of firearms licence. We also have had suppressors (silencers) banned in Oz since the 1960s. Other banned items include tazers, oc (capsicum) spray, bullet proof vests, handcuffs. As I stated in the letter Australians cannot have “weapons” for self defence at all. We are to wait patiently for the Police to take details after offences have occurred.
Our “law making” process works differently – here the Police put forward new restrictions, the State level Justice Minister signs off then the new law is Gazetted (published) in the Government Gazette – its then law. We don’t get the prior warning of an upcoming bill sponsored by a “politician” (sorry for the swear word), then the opportunity to rally the troops and get the legislation squashed. Short of moving to the US or even to our Kiwi cousins (NZ) we have to try to do the things we believe in and take the Grey Man approach. We aren’t as far gone as the UK yet but we can see the PTB making it more difficult and oppressively expensive to meet compliance rules with no basis to crime figures. Last point many criminals with illegal firearms get warnings, parole etc. Legal firearms licence holders with legal firearms face extreme fines and loss of firearms and licence through minor things such as ammunition not being in a locked receptacle.

  13. Hey Aussie Shooter! Why don’t you come join us? I suspect you could make a good living lecturing on the “Australian System” which so interested Hillary Clinton before her sad(?) political demise. Perhaps you may motivate the Yanks a bit! But then again, our immigration laws probably wouldn’t allow an educated, articulate, and principled man such as yourself in the Country. Seriously, thanks so much for sharing – wish you WERE one of us!

  14. Many Australians obey the law too many Australians who own guns will happily abide with poor legislation or simply shrug their shoulders and say ” it’s OK mate “, someone said Australians don’t distrust their government[s] enough, that is very true, the left socialist leaning press and other ignorant naive fools always tell us in Australia that the mass shootings disappeared so there is no need to own a gun for self defence, last few years ammunition storage limits have been imposed, recorded and logged by the licencing Police in each state, the same licencing Police who are only there to enforce gun laws ( no they don’t catch burglers, rapists, murderers, arsonists, or thugs ) will inspect your home or gun shop premises that if you have even a case or primer on your bench top instead of your gun safe will fine you and confiscate your guns. Lever action rifles are to be categorised in 2018 as ” restricted weapons “.

you Americans need to learn from us, and please for freedom sake do not come here to live, petty crime, thuggery is out of control.

    1. ex pat Aussie:
I feel for you and your fellow countrymen/patriots and i will pray for you all.
I like what SH in TX did for Aussie Shooter and invite him to the U.S.. I would like to extend that invite to you and any of your fellow countrymen to ‘legally’ come join us here in the U.S..While I’am sure that some of his statement was in jest, and there ain’t nothing wrong with a little levity. I like you and Aussie Shooter’s WORDS OF WARNING! Very important, that we heed you and Aussie Shooter’s WORDS OF WARNING to ALL OF US, everywhere especially here in the U.S..
Every time I here someone talk of gun confiscation it makes my blood boil, very angry!
      God Bless.

  15. Fieldmarshelattilahun

The invite is very appreciated, I assure you. Many Americans died for us at Midway and the Coral sea. We can never repay that debt. I do not forget.

  16. ex pat Aussie:
You are welcome, sir. I had kin that fought in those battles and my father served on board the U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier. I myself served in the U.S. Marine Corps and during a six month float had the privilege and pleasure of shore leave in Perth Australia, and I thank you and fellow countrymen for your hospitality. Thank you for remembrance.
    Stay Frosty, Semper Fi!
    God Bless!
