The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. The expected South Africa violence is starting.

London’s Murder Rate

For the first time in over a century, London’s murder rate has overtaken New York City’s. The rise in murders is mostly due to an upswing in knife attacks. While both cities have severe gun control (and have had it for a very long time), it is interesting to note that New York’s is a local ban while London’s is a nation-wide ban. You can still obtain a firearm by driving a short distance in New York (legal issues aside). Also of note is that while firearms are considered the great equalizer when it comes to size and power of opponents, knifes favor the larger more powerful opponent. In essence, gun control has failed miserably in both locations, but London is now considering severe knife controls. Since we all know that only law abiding citizens, by definition, obey the law, criminals will now have a further advantage over their victims in London. Thanks to H.L. for the link.

South Africa Update

As predicted, the violence in South Africa is ratcheting up. A police station was torched in Zwelihle and the police are struggling to maintain order. President Cyril Ramaphosa is holding firm on his drive to expropriate land from whites without compensation. It should be noted that it is not the disafected whites that are driving the violence, but the blacks who are attempting to engage in a violent land invasion. President Ramaphosa promised this wouldn’t happen, but like usual, libtards are out of touch with reality. Thanks to S.M for the links.

Gun Control

Reader DSV sent in this article showing that the Democrat Party’s last remaining Second Amendment proponent has caved and is now supporting an “Assault-Style” Weapons ban. Of course, no one in congress is apparently able to define exactly what that is and Sen Mark Warner (D) certainly admits that is a problem, but he’s all in for the ban anyways. Note how he skillfully avoids holding law enforcement agencies accountable for their numerous screw-ups in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. They don’t even know what an assault rifle is, but they are sure it is to blame.

SurvivalBlog reader John Cylc has a new article on his take of why the gun control debate will probably never end. It’s worth a read if you get a chance.

Assisted Suicide

Two of the most liberal states in the country finally killed off their “assisted suicide” bills. Massachusetts and Connecticut shelved the bills that would further the progressive/liberal’s eugenics desire and allow doctors to violate their oaths in killing innocent people. This is good news, but it’s only one battle. We’ve been warning of this movement for a long time. First it was abortion, now it’s the elderly, soon it will be the sick and mentally retarded. It’s like we are living 1930’s Germany all over again and people are oblivious.

Digital Security

We are getting tired of vendors not safeguarding customer data appropriately. Now the Hudson Bay Company says that it’s subsidiaries Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, and Saks off 5th have been affected by a data breach. Nearly 5 million customers have had their credit cards and identity information stolen by hackers. If you shopped any of these retail locations from May 2017 till now, your data has probably been compromised. Take the appropriate measures. Thanks to DSV for the link.

Bed Bugs

Ahh, the joys of public transportation! Kansas City International Airport has reported that an infestation of bed bugs were discovered on an upholstered chair in a sitting area near several restaurants. The airport is stressing that the infestation was limited and did not affect any of the eating establishments. We sure hope those who traveled through this airport did not sit in the affected area. If you did, check your luggage and clothing carefully! And people wonder why I don’t like traveling. Thanks to reader T.P. for the link.

Indoctrination

In a rare admission of their stated goal, Swedish educators have targeted children for cross-gender conditioning and have admitted that it intentional indoctrination. The preschool in question makes one and two-year-old boys act like little girls. This is done in the mistaken belief that little boys and little girls are only formed by their environment and that the differences between them have nothing to do with genetics. Obviously, they don’t care about science. These will most certainly be screwed up little boys in a just a few years. If you can, get your kids out of public schools before this nonsense comes to your school!

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. Digital Security
If you absolutely MUST shop online, sounds like the best plan is to get a one time or refillable (gift) card that’s not attached to your plastic or accounts, that you can use online.

  2. Even the refillable pre-paid cards require that the user enters the name, SS#, address, and email info before “fully activated” status is reached. There is NO privacy that can be gained by using these cards. It would seem that one’s private information could be garnered by a hack into one of these card institutions as well as or maybe even more so than the big name banks. Keep aware and keep your hair!

  3. On eugenics, the German eugenicists in the 1930s looked to America in the decades leading up to the 1930s for their inspiration. In the 1920s, America lead the world in eugenics. The crimes of the Germans are paraded before the world while the crimes of the Americans are forgotten. Sad that.

  4. I do not shop on line. If I find something I want I will LOOK on line to find someone that carries the product then I will call that merchant and order the product using a specific CC with a very low limit just for that purpose. I realize that when I say I call somebody that means I revert back to an old form of technology (telephone and yes I do still have a rotary dial phone, probably got antique value.) By using a phone I am forced into the position of having to talk to a human being (strange concept) and at that time I can ask questions about the product if I have any. I realize that if you were born after 1990 the will sound foreign to you but try it sometime. I also only deal with persons answering the phone in the U.S. I figure we need the jobs here at home. I’m sure that some of you are thinking I am a sexist , raciest, homophobic deplorable, pig. God my feelings are hurt.

  5. I gotta say an assisted suicide bill is a far cry from nazi Germany as so cleverly eluded to. Doctors don’t make the decision the pt does. That was a false statement printed above. A doctor can’t just write an order and say we are going to kill you. It’s for terminal pts in great pain who want to commit suicide with a clear mind and time; How would that person be considered an innocent? You would put a deer you hit with a truck out of its misery, why would you be so callous as not to allow a man the same diginity.

    1. First read the history of what has happened in the Netherlands since they legalized it. My favorite story is the one about the Roman Catholic nun in the hospital who had advanced cancer. She was euthanized. When her sister nuns discovered what had happened, they were shocked, and said she would never have requested that the doctor kill her. The doctor agreed, and said he had done it without asking her BECAUSE he knew she would refuse it.

There have been almost no prosecutions for unrequested euthanasia in the Netherlands, even when it is known for certain to have happened.

They are nearly at the bottom of the slippery slope. Elderly people meet to exchange lists of doctors who will not kill them without their consent.

Read the history of what has happened there so far.

Apart from that, God does not consider a painful death to be as great an evil as suicide. Ask His Son about that. Something about a cross.

    2. Greg,

Deciding to have a doctor help to end your life is not dignified. Only God should be allowed to decide when a life should end. Mankind should not be involved in this process. You see where the legalization of abortion has gotten us — we have slaughtered nearly 60 million little babies in this country. Mankind decided that babies weren’t convenient in these cases.

The euthanizing of patients has happened to people who weren’t quite convinced they wanted this. Family members have influenced them, as have medical doctors. As of February of this year, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Oregon, Vermont and Washington state have assisted suicide policies. If we do not value life in all of it’s stages, we are no better than Lucifer, the great deceiver. Satan convinces people that some lives are not worth living. Do we glorify or condone suicide when it happens? Well, we shouldn’t glorify or condone “assisted suicide”, either. It is not our place to take or decide when a life must end. This is a very slippery slope. Who goes next? Our mentally handicapped, our physically handicapped or those who are “just in the way”? This thinking is why this has to stop and stop now.

  6. The gun control debate will never be allowed to be lost by the other side because it raises so much money,as does abortion, immigration, global warming/ cooling ect.

As far as assisted suicide goes unless you have stage 4 cancer or other fatal affliction like I have you are NOT entitled to an opinion!

  7. Actually Greg their is a move in several States to allow the doctor to make the decision based on his estimate of the patients quality of life. Coming to a state near you. I say this as a retired hospice R N . And to answer the question I know your dying to ask (no pun intended), the organization I was attached to did not / would not ever assist with suicide.

    1. JJ,

I hadn’t heard of this movement to allow the doctors to make end of life decisions based on their estimates of a patients quality of life. This is an atrocity, and I am sorry to learn of it. Yes, the Netherlands is a prime example of what happens when this slippery slope gets even worse. I haven’t been to the Netherlands, nor will I ever go. Only God should decide when a life ends. The behavior of this country as a whole has got to be grieving the Lord terribly. We should never be surprised when judgments come. With the holocaust of abortion and now “assisted suicide”, the judgments will come heavier and faster. We have lost our love of life and our love of God. I do not mean all of us, but a goodly amount of Americans.

  8. Re Data Security:
The closer we get to a “Cashless Society”, the closer we get to a Privacy-free society.

    By the way..
OPSEC and Credit/debit Cards do NOT have an overlap!
