The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. All of your worries are over. The government is hear to help you with the new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division!

Conscience and Religious Freedom Division

Are you feeling persecuted and trodden upon? Do you feel that you have no friends and no one likes you anymore? Have no fear! The government is here to help. The U.S. health and Human Services has announced a new division in the Office for Civil Rights. In their own words, the new division, called “The Conscience and Religious Freedom Division” has been established to restore federal enforcement of our nation’s laws that protect the fundamental and unalienable rights of conscience and religious freedom. Did you feel that chill run down your spine? You thought that there couldn’t be any words worse than “Hi. I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” I wonder how long it will be before you see a high profile case of a Christian being persecuted for something by this new government agency. Will they get their own SWAT team? Thanks to DSV for the link.

Deer to Human Disease Transmission

Reader G.P. sent in this article showing there is concern that the mysterious “zombie” killing disease that is killing deer across North America will make the leap across species and affect humans. The disease gradually destroys the hosts nervous system and in some herds, nearly half of the population carries the disease. There have been no reported illnesses in humans from the disease but monkeys who have been fed infected deer meat have contracted the disease. The fear is that the inter-species boundary might not be as robust as once thought regarding it.

Best Well Pumps for Inverters

Reader T.J. sent in this video from Practical Preppers that reviews some of the best submersible well pumps for those who are living off grid. Things like soft-start features and low horsepower are explained along with some of the fail-safes like low water protection.

Loot or Die of Hunger

Reader H.L. sent this update on Venezuela and it’s food shortages. As society breaks down, crime is going up exponentially. As expected, hunger is an incredible motivator for behavior that a person might not normally consider. Grocery stores are the prime target and looters take everything from cold cuts to cash registers. People have already started breaking into warehouses and the looting is starting to spread into the outlying farms. Food trucks are dangerous vehicles to drive. In the first 11 days of January, there have been 107 episodes of looting and several death attributed directly to looting.

Binary Triggers

We just found out that Valley Food Storage (one of SurvivalBlog’s advertisers) has finally cleared their back ordered binary triggers and only has about 10 left. They will not be bringing these back, but if you hurry, they might still have one or two for your order. They are also offering SurvivalBlog readers a 15% discount along with free shipping if you use the coupon code “survival15”.

NSA Voice Recognition

Some hard questions need to be asked of those companies that produce home devices like Amazon’s “Echo” and “Google Home”. The NSA has programs in place dating as far back as 2004 which are able to match speakers to a given voiceprint along with generating basic transcriptions. The system has actually been officially deployed to track the Pakistani army’s chief of staff along with Iranian delegates. The problem arises even if Amazon and Google don’t knowingly participate in the programs (perhaps a stretch given the CIA money that Google has accepted in the past.) Are the stored recordings secure? What happens if the servers are hacked or “accidentally” exposed? Something to consider before buying one of these devices perhaps.

German Immigration

Cottbus, a German city that has been the focus of right-wing extremists has temporarily banned new refugees in an attempt to stem a surge of violence there. Both refugees and extremists have been participating in the violence. The city, which has a population of about 100,000 has taken in about 3,000 refugees since Merkel opened the flood gates. Note that Cottbus is not the first city to implement such a ban. Last year three other cities also instated a similar ban on immigrants.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. I’m waiting for the ‘Ministry of Truth’ to be created along with a Night Watch division to help enforce their rulings. References to the TV series Babylon 5. Great series that deals with freedom and the cost of getting it back.

  2. “Deer to Human Disease Transmission”
Sounds like a variant of Mad Cow, or Creutzfeldt-Jakob’s Disease. For which there is STILL no blood or neurological test (until you show symptoms – then it’s too late).
I’m a little touchy about this. I served over in Europe, and the Red Cross says they don’t want my blood donations.
Every time someone comes around, looking for signups for blood donations, I ask if anyone has come up with a test for CJ/Mad Cow. I even call the RC HQ. So far, no test.
And the RC wonders why blood donations are so low….

  3. Religious Liberty Government Department
What standard of conscience is this new department going to hold all other standards against? Without an objective perfect standard, all others will fall short.

Will we protect the religious liberty of Muslims who believe it is in their conscience and religious duty to carry out the Caliphate?

    1. Religious liberty and informed consent.

Is there a difference between religious compromise and a compromise in conscience regarding a violation of informed consent?

Many people today inspect the ingredients of their food items. How many understand fully the vaccine ingredient list?

Has the population been fully informed about the ingredients in vaccines? Has there been an informed consent violation? Would those who oppose abortion also oppose taking vaccines that contain aborted fetal cells?

Aborted fetal cells are referred to as: “normal human diploid cells,” “MRC-5 cells” and “human-diploid fibroblast cell cultures (strain WI-38).” What about “vero cells (a continuous line of monkey kidney cells” or “African Green Monkey kidney (Vero) cells” in vaccines?

Now that I am informed, it is against my conscience to be injected with DNA, monkey kidney cells or any cells or tissue that is harvested from an aborted fetus (whether the abortion is voluntary or not).

All quotes are taken from the CDC’s summary list of ingredients, available online under the titled appendix, “Vaccine Excipient & Media Summary” from “The Pink Book” on the CDC website. I am frankly shocked that this is a published document available for viewing.

  4. There was a case a number of years ago of a guy in Texas that died of wasting disease. He had hunter in Co and shot a processed a deer. We have a problem here in the upper mid west, one is called Blue Tougue and the other EDH.Both are caused by or during dry weather, low water in creeks and rivers beds and other watering points.EDH is when bacteria is part of the water and mud when deer are drinking. EDH attacks the IMMUNE system of deer. Blue Tongue is when a misfits is sucked up from the mud while drinking. It CAUSES the thoart to swell shut, causing starvation and thirst and whatever else.

  5. I’m not so jaded to automatically assume that the HHS Religious Freedom office is another communist plot. (I would if Obama or Hillary were in office.) But Trump has surprised conservatives in multiple ways, for example speaking in person at the recent Right To Life march (which even Reagan did not do). Furthermore, do we think that maybe, possibly, perhaps God might actually answer our prayer for a more righteous government? If so, we should be thankful.
