First Human Case of Screwworm Found in U.S.
First human case of flesh-eating screwworm parasite detected in the U.S.. (Our thanks to reader C.B. for the link.) The article begins:
“The first human case of the flesh-eating parasite “New World screwworm” has been detected in the United States, the Department of Health and Human Services said early Monday.
The case, involving a person who had recently traveled to El Salvador, was confirmed to be screwworm by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Maryland Department of Health on Aug. 4.
The Maryland Department of Health said in a Monday statement that the resident has recovered “from the infection, and the investigation confirmed there is no indication of transmission to any other individuals or animals.”
“This is the first human case of travel-associated New World screwworm myiasis (parasitic infestation of fly larvae) from an outbreak-affected country identified in the United States,” HHS spokesperson Emily G. Hilliard said in a statement.”

Police Training Calls Moms for Liberty “Extremist”
H.L. sent this: Police training materials label Moms for Liberty as extremist group. (A hat tip to D.S.V. for the link.) Here is an excerpt:
“An organization in Massachusetts responsible for training tens of thousands of police officers in the state reportedly used training materials that labeled the parental rights group Moms for Liberty as an extremist group akin to Antifa.
The Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) mockingly placed Moms for Liberty’s concern for “parents’ rights” in quotations in their description of the organization, according to the training materials obtained by The Daily Wire.
Screenshots show the training material described Moms for Liberty as an “anti-government extremist” group, which was the label the Southern Poverty Law Center slapped on them in 2023.”
