The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods. This column is a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from JWR. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats, and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. In today’s column, we look at contemporary global military posturing and saber-rattling.

Western Allies are Running Out of Ammo for Ukraine

In the Left-of-Center Guardian: Western allies say they are running out of ammo to donate; Ukraine advancing in south, says General – as it happened. A quote:

“Western military powers are running out of ammunition to give to Ukraine to repel Russian attacks, the UK and NATO have warned. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Admiral Rob Bauer, NATO’s most senior military official, said governments and defence manufacturers now had to ‘ramp up production in a much higher tempo’.”

New York is a Defenseless Zone

Our own Tom Christianson recommended this essay: Defenseless Zone: New York State law makes it next to impossible for Jews and others legally to arm themselves for protection. Here is an excerpt:

“I was being targeted. And I could do nothing about it. Sure, I could apply for a concealed-carry permit and wade through the bureaucratic thicket that New York places between its residents and their constitutionally protected rights. But even were I to succeed in obtaining the coveted permit, what good would it do me? I would not be able, for example, to carry my firearm as I took my kids to or from school. Nor, for that matter, would I be able to lug my piece around if I chose to use any form of public transportation.”

How Prepared is Taiwan for a War with China?

From the globalist and pro-Islamic Al Jazeera: How prepared is Taiwan for a war with China? A quote:

“By some estimates, a huge military modernisation campaign could make the PLA capable of mounting an invasion by 2027.

With a population of just 23 million and a military of 169,000 active service personnel, Taiwan is dwarfed by China’s population and military strength. The PLA is the largest standing army in the world with 2 million members and it has much stronger air, naval and firepower than Taiwan, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), a London-based think tank.”

JWR’s Comments: If they are willing to endure large troop losses and suffer the consequences of a loss of global trade and distrust that would last for decades, China could invade Taiwan tomorrow.
