Editors’ Prepping Progress

To be prepared for a crisis, every Prepper must establish goals and make long-term and short-term plans. In this column, the SurvivalBlog editors review their week’s prep activities and planned prep activities for the coming week. These range from healthcare and gear purchases to gardening, ranch improvements, bug out bag fine-tuning, and food storage. This is something akin to our Retreat Owner Profiles, but written incrementally and in detail, throughout the year.  We always welcome you to share your own successes and wisdom in your e-mailed letters. We post many of those –or excerpts thereof — in this column, in the Odds ‘n Sods Column, and in the Snippets column. Let’s keep busy and be ready!

Jim Reports:

Our #2 Son is back home at the ranch, visiting for a couple of weeks. Hooray!

The continuing parade of weather fronts across the Northwestern United States has definitely put a damper on our construction projects. As of now, this is looking like the wettest June on record, for the Inland Northwest!

Right now, we are praying that our friends and neighbors who grow hayfields get a decent break in the weather. There must be a substantial break, in order to allow time to cut, windrow-rake, and bale their hay in the next eight weeks. Otherwise, their hay crops cannot be marketed.

This week, we bought another pallet block of compressed cedar mulch. I unloaded that, and the pile that it formed fluffed up to about three cubic yards.

Now, over to Lily…

Avalanche Lily Reports:

Dear Readers,
We had huge rain storms come through from Sunday night through Tuesday night…that also brought snow to our higher mountains above 4500 feet.  It has seriously flooded our valley meadows, though we are nowhere near record flood levels from the reports of flooding, years ago. As of now, we consider and we joke that we have lakefront property.  However this occurs to some degree every spring, and since I have been here, we have only had this level of flooding about three times.

I am writing this early in the week, during the storm.  It is raining non-stop and the temperature is only forty-two degrees outside. It smells like it’s snowing up higher.  We shall see what the meadow and mountains look like when the precipitation stops tomorrow.

Looking at the longterm forecast past June in the Tropical Tidbits North America Region model, it looks as though these atmospheric rivers will be continuing into July…

At the beginning of the week, when there was a break in the rain and a bit of sunshine, Miss Violet , H., and I paddled our flooded meadow.  We paddled over our four-foot fence, into our neighbor’s flooded meadow, against the flow of the water and went exploring some areas of our valley that we had not yet explored, because normally, it would be a very difficult hike along the edge of the incredibly steep mountains through thick brush and tall grass.  We went behind what is currently an island and then behind what is currently a peninsula.  We paddled over two miles through the meadows.  On our way home we floated down the river channel which flowed very swiftly and brought us home in two shakes of a lamb’s tail.  😉

H., was very well behaved for the most part.  A few times she stood up and acted as though she would jump out, especially in areas where the tall grass came to the surface of the water and she thought it was shallow.  Most of the depth of the water in the meadow varied between three inches deep to five or six feet deep maybe deeper where there were channels.  At these moments, I gently tapped her bottom with the paddle and told her to “sit down” and “stay”.  She sat back down. Because I don’t like doing the “J” stroke too often, I pass the paddle over the canoe and dripped a lot of water into the boat.  H. was sitting in it.  It is snowmelt water, therefore was very cold.  In the future, I will remember to bring a PFD seat for her to sit on….

We ordered and received a forty-pound box of Gala Apples last week. We eat a lot of fresh apples for snacks, in smoothies, and in cooking and baking. I washed about half of the apples then Jim and Miss Violet helped me slice them and put them in the dehydrator.

We went to a town to run errands and to do some more stocking-up shopping.  We stopped at an Army Surplus store, Jim bought some things, and I picked out two hats, some wool knitted gloves, wool socks,  50 feet of rope, some long underwear, and a few other things.

On the way home we saw a black bear run across the highway about a quarter-mile in front of our car.  It was our first bear sighting of the year.  Fun!

I weeded my new Asparagus patch and added to the patch a group of asparagus seedling fronds that I started from seed a few weeks ago, and put some cedar chip mulch around them.

We bought more Cedar chip mulch with which I will be developing my Perennial herb garden.

I weed-whacked the Perennial garden to get it ready for rototilling next week.

I began cutting the grass around and in my strawberry beds with scissors.  Because of all of the rain, it appears that I may have a bumper crop of berries this year.

The Three of us went for an hour bike ride on a local road that goes up into the National Forest. There, we saw beautiful views of the meadow and surrounding snow-capped high peaks.

In only two days after the heavy rains and added snow melt, the water in our flooded meadows dropped significantly.  We are slowly drying out, having had temperatures in the mid-70s and one day in the 80s, our first temperatures in the eighties this year.  It felt so good.  But it brought out the mosquitoes which are going to be very bad this year with all of the rain.

There are reports of vaccines causing rapid growth of Tumors and other cancers.

Revelation 16:2 talks about painful sores breaking out on all of the people who had taken the Mark of the Beast.  I believe the time frame for this event is during the Seventh Seal WHICH IS God’s Wrath which occurs after Jesus returns in the clouds during the Sixth Seal. Of course, this hasn’t happened yet. I believe that we are in the beginning of the first five seals that I think overlap each other. But it is still very telling that the vaccine is causing sores and cancers at the vaccination sites. I believe that the vaccine is a precursor and requisite step toward the Mark of the Beast. But it, the vaccine, is not yet, that I know of, attached to the coming world digital economic system.  But maybe it is.. Just in case, I won’t take it!

Revelation 16:2:

The first went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and severely painful sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped its image.
