SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “JWR”. Today, we focus on a 4GW Reading List.
Another Ninth Circuit Farcical Finding
This report was troubling: Appeals Court: Police Do Not Need A Reason To Place Americans On A Suspicious Person List. It seems the statist Ninth Circuit Court has fully abandoned the spirit of the Fourth Amendment. Presumption of Innocence is one of the main bulwarks of American jurisprudence. Hopefully, this will be appealed to the supreme court. If it is allowed to stand, it does not bode well for our liberty.
Trainjacking Attempt in California
Tim J. sent us the link to this odd news from California: Intoxicated man arrested for jumping aboard moving Amtrak train and taking over controls.
A 4GW Reading List
Also from Tim J.there was this, over at the Western Rifle Shooters Association (WRSA) web page, which referenced an American Partisan article: A 4GW Reading List. One of the comments from a WRSA reader (later deleted) was priceless: “Those who do not know what ‘zero a rifle’ means should not instigate a civil war with those who do, and have.” That, I should mention was a variant of something famously said by a fellow novelist and a former U.S, Navy SEAL, Matt Bracken: “Soyboys who don’t know what ‘zero a rifle’ means shouldn’t start a civil war.”
Seattle Prepares for “Snowpocalypse”
Peter from Seattle sent us this: Photos: Seattle prepares for “snowpocalypse”. Peter’s Comments: “I went shopping to get a few extra things last night. The trip was later than desired since I had a busy day at work. Several types of items (e.g. produce, milk, eggs) were simply sold out at the store. We still have sufficient supplies. It’s an expected phenomenon I haven’t seen in greater Seattle before, and a good reminder of what will happen after a major event such as an earthquake.”
Church Security Training Available
A reader wrote to mention: “Last week I attended a Church Security Workshop taught by Faith Based Security Network. There were over 100 church security team volunteers there from more than 20 churches. Taught by Carl Chinn (and others) who was in charge of security at a mega church in Colorado where a killer came to murder innocent churchgoers. The killer got two victims in the parking lot before coming inside to kill the hundreds still milling around after church. The killer was shot dead by a Church Security team member with a Concealed Carry Permit. The information presented is excellent. To obtain their DVDs and other resources available, or to arrange a clinic in your area, visit fbsnamerica.com.”
Kentucky Driver Tries to Destroy Snowman Built on Tree Stump
Several readers sent me this humorous bit of news: Kentucky driver tries to destroy snowman built on tree stump.
We Read These Headlines Every Winter…
Mike in Alaska sent us this: California couple rescued from Mendocino National Forest after being stranded in snow for 5 days in their Jeep. When will they ever learn?
Connecticut Bill Would Hike Ammunition Sales Tax to 50%
Lastly, over are Truth About Guns: Connecticut Bill Would Hike Ammunition Sales Tax to 50%.
SOCOM Needs Better Propaganda
Mike suggest this piece: SOCOM needs to step up its propaganda game, Pentagon deputy says. Here is a quote: “‘We need to move beyond our 20th century approach to messaging and start looking at influence as an integral aspect of modern irregular warfare,’ Andrew Knaggs, the Pentagon’s deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and combating terrorism, said at a defense industry symposium Tuesday. The shift will require cooperation with civilians rarely approached by SOCOM, as well as new technology and strategies to isolate enemy disinformation campaigns before they catch the public’s interest in an area of operations. ‘It will also require new partnerships beyond traditional actors, throughout the world, through efforts to amplify voices of [non-governmental organizations] and individual citizens who bring transparency to malign activities of our competitors,’ said Knaggs, who also served as an Army Green Beret with 5th Special Forces Group.”
Please send your news tips to JWR. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!
