This winter I had the sobering experience of visiting the Chernobyl museum in Kiev, Ukraine. I can assure everyone that not only was the radiation release much more serious than most Americans have been led to believe, there were many more fatalities than were reported. There were hundreds who knowingly gave their lives in trying to control and then “clean up” the radioactivity, and many thousands who have had their lives shortened through leukemia and various cancers. Nuclear fission is not a safe way to generate energy, regardless of what industry and the AEC tell us.
