JWR’s Comment: The Fort Hood massacre showed us that it was a huge mistake to disarm our troops in CONUS. Hopefully, the Trump Administration will remedy that. How? By authorizing officers and NCOs to carry loaded weapons (either issued or personally-owned) at all times.

  1. Judges prefer uninformed jurors.Informed jurors threaten the secret, open to member’s only, legal system. Backwoods home magazine (online) has a couple of good juror articles that should be read by all.

    1. During voir dire the lawyers attempt to weed out anyone who has any knowledge of the actual system as well as those who might be inclined to think for themselves (rebels). I am a retired LEO and have been called to jury duty a couple of times. Both were a massive waste of my time because no lawyer is ever going to allow me to sit on any panel…too much inside knowledge. Next time I am going to simply ask the lawyer, during voir dire, to simply dismiss me as I have better things to do than play court room theater games.

  2. I would encourage multiple readings of the signs of drowning by all. I was a beach lifeguard for 4 years with hundreds of rescues under my belt (both on and off duty). The author nailed it. I can’t count how many times I swam past competent swimmers mere yards from someone who was drowning and yet were entirely unaware.

  3. In California, the California National Guard’s Adjutant General last year stated that anyone with a CA CCW or law enforcement credentials could carry their personal weapons concealed on all California Military Department bases. This applies to ANY soldier or airman, not just officers and NCOs. It’s been out for around a year now, and is working really well. Remember the CA national guard is 22,000 strong (biggest in the nation) and there are MANY CA ccw holders now carrying regularly – I am one of them.

  4. I am married to an attorney and worked as a paralegal for many years before starting a family. I received a juror questionnaire prior to actually called for jury duty. When I stopped by the Jury Commissioners office in the courthouse to return the form the Commissioner (who knew me) took the form, tore it into little pieces & permanently removed my name from the list of potential jurors. He knew that it would be a waste of everyone’s time to attempt to seat me on a jury.
