As I recently mentioned in SurvivalBlog, Turkish President cum Dictator Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has launched a huge nationwide post-coup purge. It is now affecting as many as 50,000 Turks. This purge includes mass job firings, jailings, radio and television license suspensions, new Internet firewalls, embassy staff recalls, student recalls, filings for in-absentia prosecutions, and attempted renditions of Turks living overseas. The great unspoken here is that a disproportionately large number of those who have been purged are non-Muslims. Most recently, Erdo?an has ordered the involuntary recall of thousands of Turkish students who are enrolled in colleges abroad. Given the country’s checkered human rights history (including the massive Armenian genocide of 1915), the advent of each new headline about the purge is quite troubling. Please pray for better government there and for liberty for the Turkish citizenry.- JWR
