The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods – a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”.

Politics and Your Neighborhood Crime

Reader H.L. sent in this link from American Thinker on how Oregon is emptying jails to terrorize citizens into paying higher taxes. It’s truly amazing how much the government has in common with organized crime. Isn’t this concept similar to the “protection payment” extorted from shop owners? Either pay us what we want or we’ll make sure your property is destroyed!.

Chicago police fought to keep a secret list of people they wanted to watch during the devastating surge in murders and attempted murders last summer. While only about 1,400 individuals drove the crime wave, the list included almost 400,000 entries. This was basically a pre-crime “minority report” sort of list, made up of anyone who had been the victim of a crime or had witnessed a crime as well as those who had committed crimes. Individuals were given scores based upon the statistical likelihood that they might perpetrate a crime. The Sun Times has now made the list public.

Europe’s Immigration Problem

Reader D.S sent in this article about Germany Confiscating Homes to use for Migrants. This is unlike what we reported before from Sweden (where properties owned by the government were being used). These are privately-owned commercial and residential properties where the government is appropriating them and forcing the owners to lease them to immigrants. While these properties were currently vacant, it was the owner’s right to keep them that way. In a move similar to the “If you see something, say something” movement here in the U.S., the government has set up a hotline where local residents can report vacant properties that can then be targeted by the government.

Also in Germany, reader B.B. sent this article showing where a German judge acquitted a Turkish immigrant of rape “because in Turkey it’s not rape. It’s just four hours of wild sex.” According to Google’s English translation, a young woman went to the man’s apartment to buy drugs and ended up being raped by him. The Judge admitted that the woman’s testimony was correct and that she did not “consent”, but the judge acquitted the man because he “probably did not know what he was doing to her.”

Health

Reader DSV sent in this article from Natural News on how using common over-the-counter painkillers (ibuprofen and naproxen) can raise the risk of a heart attack within a week of use. The report was published by the British Medical Journal and showed that NSAIDs taken in high doses raises the risk from between 20 to 50%. Apparently, occasional use is okay, but long-term use at high doses should be avoided. We are already careful about our use of Tylenol, but now NSAIDs must be added to that watch list.

Rogue States

North Korea launched another missile, but this one has experts puzzled. Apparently, the missile did not behave as Western allies expected. Either this is a new type of missile or it was a misfire. Authorities are not sure which at this point. The missile traveled 500 miles before falling into the Sea of Japan only 60 miles south of Russia’s Vladivostok region. Kim Duck Soup continues to win friends with his wild and reckless launches.

Some experts are suggesting that this was a successful test launch, bringing the tin-horn dictator closer to developing an intercontinental ballistic missile. They suggest that the high trajectory was intended to test the high speed re-entry capabilities of the payload. If it had been fired at a standard trajectory, estimates put the flight at roughly 2,500 miles. (4,800 or more are required to target the mainland U.S.) It should be noted that a nuclear attack on Hawaii would still be devastating. His current technology is capable of that.

Field Gear

Wilderness Outfitters has published a Video on setting up a Stretcher Bed. As long as you have the natural wood available, this is an excellent and easy system to use for shelter.

  1. 1) One thing to be wary of with NSAIDs is that many of them interfere with blood clotting –NOT a good thing in the case of wounds. My understanding is that the military stocks Tylenol and a prescription NSAID called MOBIC in their first aid kits because they supposedly don’t cause bleeding the way aspirin and others do.

  2. If a guy believes that a woman kicking and screaming as he attempts to sow his oats is an indication of a “yes,” then fine; put him in the zoo with the rest of the gorillas. Either way, he’ll be in a cage… For that matter, put the judge who let him off in there as well!

  3. The Isamic/Muslim scumbag needs to be deported out of Germany. You have him on drug dealing and rape. Instead we have yet another immigrant loving judge incapable of protecting us. Protect your daughters, defend your rightful homelands, kick these invaders out of your country and have the courage to tell the Socialists (Liberal Dems) to get out as well. When will men of honesty, integrity and honor stand up and face the war already declared on all white people?

Yes the Woman had no business getting into drugs, spending time with drug dealers or being raped. Where is the outcry on the failure of the parents? How long will it be before this occurs in America?

Have the courage to stand united, for our enemies are organizing and winning this genocide waged against our people.

  4. I read the article about Oregon jails. They are catching-and-release for nonviolent criminals. Hardly the type of people to go out terrorizing the countryside. As long as they show up for court they are saving the county money. The defendents (remember innocent until proven guilty) can keep going to work, making money, paying taxes and maybe they will even have enough money to pay their fines. If they are convicted they can be punished.
