SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. Today’s video on South African farmland is a must see. This is a country in a serious crises.
Active Shooter Training
Have you ever wondered what you would do in an active shooter situation? Mike Williamson, SurvivalBlog’s Editor at Large sent in this short active shooter training video he ran across on YouTube. It gives you a taste of training and some scenarios to think about. thinks are radically different that what you see and hear on TV. In real life, gun fire does not sound like it does on TV. Shooters do not act like they do on TV and not every bad person is stupid or makes stupid mistakes. If you are in a public situation, you need to know what your capabilities are beforehand and you need to have the proper frame of mind to act quickly and decisively. Watch this video and make the decision as to whether you need to seek further training.
Gun Free Utopia
Reid Henrichs, another one of my favorite vloggers, has a video out explaining the gun free utopia that the progressive left so desires. In this utopia, only the authorized representatives of the government have access to firearms and all people live in peace. so what is the reality of that utopia? Parkland. In that situation, a “bad guy” came on scene and only an authorized representative of the government had a firearm where he could respond effectively. He didn’t have a vested interest in protecting those kids as the authority to carry that weapon was only a “job” to him and he allowed the massacre to continue without getting involved. So now you know. What is the true gun free utopia? It’s simple a victim rich location. thanks to T.J. for the link.
No 1st Amendment Right Equivalent in Sweden
Reader H.L. sent in this article that serves as a stark reminder that not all countries enjoy the constitutionally protected rights that we have in the United States. A Swedish woman shared a meme on social media that criticized Islam. I actually like the meme and think it’s quite funny and an accurate figurative description. But in Sweden, a country that has become a feminist utopia and a bastion for multiculturalism and cultural Marxism, that is a crime punishable by two years in prison. Of course, we’re not talking about Mexican prisons here. Swedish prisons are apparently pretty close to vacation resorts, but still, who would have thought that sharing a mildly offensive (but accurate) meme on social media was crime-think.
Venezuela
Reader H.L. also sent this narrative written by a Venezuelan photographer that traveled with a group of people attempting to escape the social disaster that Venezuela has become. It is a short narrative, without pictures, but it is heart rending as the author describes some of the lives that he traveled with on a bus as they fled the country, trying to find a better life than what they had. Many left behind loved ones who still face the daily dangers of violence, muggings and a corrupt government. It’s a worthwhile read.
South Africa Farmland
Lauren Southern continues her series on the plight of South Africa in this video, focusing on how the the current drought is killing the land. farmers are watching their lands waste away while corruption and the anti-white racism rampant in the government keeps any form of aid from reaching the white farmers. They can no longer afford to run the machinery or pump water from wells to water the crops.
InfoWars Third Strike on YouTube
YouTube’s war on conservative voices continues as InfoWars gets a third strike. This time, the offending video has already been hit, appealed by InfoWars and reinstated and now hit again. It is apparent that there is a concerted effort of liberal/progressives to use YouTube’s automated system to silence conservative voices. Thanks to S.M. for the link.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!
“If you are for gun control then you are not against guns, because guns will be needed to disarm people. So it’s not that you are anti-gun – you’ll need the police’s guns to take away other people’s guns. So you are very pro-gun. You just believe that only the government (which of course is so reliable, honest, moral, and virtuous) should be allowed to have guns. There is no such thing as gun control. There is only centralizing gun ownership in the hands of a small, political elite and their minions.”

The Daily Caller is reporting the the Southern Poverty Law Center is involved in flagging YouTube content as inappropriate.

I came across two descriptions for the SPLC:
SPLC – Southern Preposterous Lie Center
SPLC – Stupid People Libeling Conservatives
Regarding “hand-to-gun” defense training in “gun-free zones”, I could rant all day over this perversion of logic. Not that I don’t think reasonable training programs are better than nothing, THEY ARE (better than nothing) – but it’s like trying to teach folks to drive nails with screwdrivers because someone forbids the use of hammers!
The one issue that bothers me most is the way our rulers, and our society, seem to ignore the risk associated with disarmament zones, and focus only on the risk posed by GUNS! (oh, by the way, most mass shootings stop only when what happens?…yes, when a good guy with a gun arrives on the scene!).
I work in a hospital in the great state of Texas, where I am forbidden by law and policy to be armed, though I am a concealed firearm license holder. Though the odds of an active shooter scenario are low, administration sees fit to put us through MANDATORY annual training, in which we learn to flee (like a coward), hide (like a coward), and failing those insightful tactics, to “fight back with whatever is available” (perhaps, a ballpoint pen: in other words, DIE).
It would seem to me that the boss has ADMITTED a dangerous situation may exist, by the requirement for mandatory training. It would seem to me that the employer has a DUTY, under OSHA, to maintain a reasonably safe work environment. It would seem to me that the offered “fix” is ENTIRELY INADEQUATE (as people usually die pending arrival of a “good guy with a gun”); therefore, this duty has been breached. Finally, it would seem to me that, in the event HARM occurs from this foreseeable event, THE EMPLOYER, NOT THE GUN, SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE AND SUED INTO OBLIVION BY SURVIVORS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE DECEASED! After all, the victim’s Right to Life has been breached by policy (for how can there be a Right to Life, without a Right to Self Defense?).
I’m not advocating that ANYONE should be allowed to carry at work (though it would be a far better solution than the current one), but the fact that the employer won’t even consider an “Air Marshall”-style plan, and hires no armed guards is CRIMINAL! Only large dollar settlements will get their attention – of course, as long as they can stand on state laws, they have much better protection from the slings and arrows of justice than their innocent employees will have from high-velocity lead. Where are the 2A lawyers? Let’s see some big civil cases against the criminals who created the kill zones known as “Gun Free Zones”!!
My original point: Why do we hear virtually nothing about this angle? It’s always the gun that’s the problem (unless it’s a good guy with a gun, stopping the carnage). As you can probably guess, this is a rhetorical question… we know why we only hear about the gun.
Thank you for your indulgence.
Interesting line of thought. I hope it gains some traction.
I don’t normally post comments, but the situation in South Africa cannot be ignored. how can we help the farmers in South Africa? we need to help them get out before they are all killed. i once worked with a gentleman from South Africa who foresaw the coming storm and got his family out early,{ie about ten plus years ago}. He was a hard working and honest man who wanted better for his family. When he arrived in America he took a job that paid just 9.00 per hour and was very thankful for it. His stories about the situation in South Africa was interesting to say the least. I have not had any contact with this man in several years, but am now trying to contact him to see if all of his family has made it out alive. I plan on helping them if they need help. May God be with them.
Perhaps we should consider accepting these soon-to-be refugees threatened with genocide?
In the mid 1990’s while teaching at an adult education school I had many students from all over the world. One student was from South Africa, at the same time my son was in elementary school and learning about Africa from a visiting African teaching specialist. For an assignment my son interviewed the South African. The stories he told then of the murder, squatting and theft of land was horrific. My son taped the interview, took pictures and presented them to his class. The look on the instructors face when he saw that the South African was white was priceless. His family had lived there for centuries and were doing everything then to get out.
While in the Marines and traveling all over the world, seeing things first hand, I learned that whatever the media is telling you it is much worse than you can imagine, specially if it counters their socialist agenda.
Reid has produced a lot of very informative videos. What he does even better than creating videos is train in the use of firearms for self defense. I’ve known Reid for half a dozen years and have trained under him at least that many times. I have NEVER be disappointed in any of these classes. I have seen his dedication to his students and this nation. He his a dedicated patriot and a caring teacher.
I high recommend that anyone who wants to learn more about using their tools to protect themselves, their families, and their communities attend one or more of Reid’s classes. You will learn a LOT that you did not know before. For those more experienced, you will still learn as well as refreshing knowledge and skills you already knew.
Thanks Hugh for posting Reid’s videos.
Note: I am not affiliated with Reid in any financial way, although I do count the man as a friend!
