Wow! Mrs. Latimer informed me of this jewel. A self-proclaimed far left liberal writes about the accuracy of conservative social predictions and the refusal of college campus professors to even discuss their offenses to block conservative voices and debate. While he disagrees with conservatives about what is good and bad, he admits we have some things correct.The professor is concerned about the lack of discussion. The conservative voice is being shut out and no one is allowed to discuss it. Furthermore, he states that it would be difficult to be a conservative professor on today’s campuses, particularly in humanities and social sciences. What does that tell us about sending our young people off to college?

Social cons said that ending the norm of the two-parent family would lead to more single-parent households, and they were correct. Social cons said that widespread access to birth control would lead to sexual licentiousness, and they were right. Social cons said that decriminalization of gay sex would lead to social acceptance of gay people, and so it was. Social cons said that social acceptance of gay people would lead to gay marriage, and that was true. Social cons said that efforts to end stigma against trans people would lead to a general rejection of the gender binary, and so it has… Again, these are mostly all good consequences, which is the difference between me and them.”
“The number of boilerplate conservative opinions that are taken to be too offensive to be voiced in the campus space just grows and grows, and yet progressive profs I know are so offended by the idea that they could be creating a hostile atmosphere, they won’t even discuss the subject in good faith.”
NBC Hazards
Several readers wrote in to make sure people were aware of the “accident” at the Hanford nuclear site. One of the tunnels has apparently collapsed causing an alarm. It’s important to note that while the Hanford site does store spent nuclear fuel, that is not what is stored in the compromised tunnel. High-level radioactive waste is stored in the tunnel. This waste consists of things like suits, gloves, boots, et cetera. There is no radiation leak. However the tunnel stores highly radioactive waste. A worker noticed the collapsed tunnel and sounded the alarm. Radiation was a fear, not a cause in the alarm. Proper protocol mandates a “shelter-in-place” order while the extent of the accident is established. At this time, there is no greater danger to the public or the area than what already existed. Reader P.S sent in this video released by Anonymous. The video isn’t telling us anything that you don’t already know and the video is a bit weird. However, the whole setup is eerily similar to the slow buildup in the Middle East before the first Gulf War in 1990.
Surprise Violence
Most of us think that the airports are relatively safe places (at least until you realize that the security is more drama than real). When pilots refused to fly during a union dispute, Spirit Airlines canceled 11 flights and delayed 26 others. Passengers handled the whole shebang with aplomb – or not! A mob of customers began beating the counters and screaming, and it eventually erupted in a near riot with passengers assaulting police. While it appears that only three persons incited the violence, there were nearly 500 people in the terminal. The videos show much chaos and many taking part.

Reader T.P. sent in this article about a family dining at IHOP. When you suddenly realize that “condition white” is a horrible place to be in public: After complaining about the poor service they received, the waitress allegedly pulled a steak knife on the family. There is obviously more to the story, as the manager had already asked the family to leave and the knife appeared towards the end of the argument. What the report fails to disclose though was how many other people were in the restaurant. Innocent bystanders do get hurt. As the saying goes, keep your head on a swivel!
2nd Amendment Loss
If you haven’t already heard, the 2nd Amendment suffered the loss of a staunch supporter this week. Reader B.B. sent in the news about Bob Owens, Editor of the 2nd Amendment Blog, apparently died of a self-inflicted gun shot. Our condolences to Bob’s family in their grief. He is sorely missed already. Furthermore, extreme shame heaped upon those leftist, progressive commies who are publicly rejoicing.
1984
George Orwell’s 1984 plays out before our eyes as UC Berkeley recently removed 135,000 books from its school library, claiming that by digitizing the books, library space can be reused for other things like “nap pods”. The science library of the University of California, Santa Cruz also suffered the same fate. Nearly 60% of the books were destroyed. These are the same universities that are working to stifle 1st Amendment speech. It is not far fetched to see where someone could alter the digital texts, just like in 1984. Sent in by H.L.
Earthquakes
Reader D.S. informs us that Alaska was hit by 45 significant earthquakes with 24 hours. The largest had a magnitude of 6.2, and 25 of them were greater than 4.0. Consequently, if you live in the danger zone on the west coast, it’s time to check and recheck your preps and bug out plans. A magnitude 9.0 quake could trigger a 500 mph wave and put 70,000 people in serious direct risk.
I have worked at the Hanford site and what was in teh collapsed train tunnel is not low level waste. It is highly radioactive waste in the form of contaminated tools, machinery, and other material. PUREX was a plutonium separation facility that took irradiated fuel rods and separated the plutonium form uranium. There are other very high radioactive elements like cesium and strontium that are part of a fuel rod. These train cars are covered in multiple types of radioactive contamination. However there is no threat outside of the tunnel because the contamination wouldn’t spread unless disturbed and since there is no wind inside the tunnel it didn’t blow out of the hole. If you went into the tunnel for more than an hour you might get a lethal doe of radiation from Gamma rays. Dirt is a great shield of gamma and so is distance, so the only threat would have been if you fell in the hole.

Regarding earthquakes, Western Washington has also had what they are calling a “swarm” of small earthquakes.
With regards to the leftist trends on American college campuses, I agree with Mrs. Latimer’s views and go a couple steps farther. When people ask about getting value for their tuition dollars when educating their children I point out that 4-year colleges are ridiculously overpriced. It takes a new graduate decades of debt-enslavement to be free again. I always recommend at least starting with a couple years in a local community college. My own AAS in Radiologic Technology had me out and working in two years and I still earn much more than most bachelor’s degree graduates even after 20 years. Plus, after a $3k federal grant for tuition and another $3k federal loan I was debt-free from my education in two years.
It’s apparent to me that universities are in the business of making money, not educated citizens, and the emphasis on collegiate athletics is all the proof I need.
