Preparedness Notes for Sunday – June 04, 2017

On this day in 1944 United States Navy Task Group 22.3 captured U-505. It was a German submarine with an intact Enigma cypher machine. This was the first time since the USS Peacock seized HMS Nautilus in 1815 that the USN had captured an enemy vessel at sea. The sub, reunited with its periscope a decade ago, is displayed at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

  1. We still have the greatest Navy on the planet, our Navy has been shooting satellites out of space in recent years (2008?) while the Russian navy has been crashing into freighters (2017). Now, if we could only figure out how to rein in our elected officials in the “District of Criminals”.

  2. Have been reading this blog for about three years, have leaned a few things but having grown up on a farm in NE South Dakota I was carrying a hunting knife, matches, rifle or shotgun, fishing gear by the time I was ten years old and working for my uncle as a carpenter when I turned 14. Have read and enjoyed all of Mr. Rawles books. Keep up the good work.
