JWR’s Recommendations of the Week

Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on storage organization. (See the Gear section.)

Books:

The much-awaited new book by Claire Wolfe and Kit Perez titled Basics of Resistance will be released (appropriately) on April 19th. As of April 4th, 2018, the print-on-demand paperback edition is now available for ordering on Amazon.com. There will also be a Kindle book, now available at a special pre-order price of just 99 cents. The Kindle release day will be April 19th. I predict that this book will be in Amazon’s Top 20, even before its release day. Get a copy! Better yet, also order an extra paperback so that you’ll have one to lend out.

Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry Volume II – Beyond the Basics

Movies:

Stasi (2016).  “This definitive documentary reveals the calculated cruelty and brutal repression by the notorious East German secret police, the Stasi. Headed by the sinister Erich Mielke, the Stasi kept the population under constant surveillance. Tapping phones, reading mail, and installing informers, they created a culture of fear and suspicion.”   This documentary is available for free download to Amazon Prime members. Also available on DVD.

The Debt. (2011) Described as: “Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson star in this riveting suspense thriller that Scott Mantz of Access Hollywood calls ‘gripping, smart and unforgettable! A must-see!’ “.  This is a “Get Eichmann” style post-war “Nazi hunters” tale, with a twist. Available on DVD or for free stream for anyone with a subscription to STARZ.

Vlogs and Instructional Videos:

With Youtube’s recently announced draconian policy banning many how-to firearms videos, folks have wisely begun to migrate to Full30.com. I strongly recommend that you bookmark it, become a member, and a regular viewer.  Here are just three recent examples of what you can find there:

The Military Arms Channel: Horse Trading Guns.

Mike The Cop: Three Mistakes Concealed Carriers Make

Gear (Storage Organization):

I own five of these. Why? The need to keep your gun gear organized and consolidated is self-explanatory: FIXXXER LARGE 10 Magazine Pouch With Cover, for use with Glock and other magazines (Holds 10 Magazines)

Oh, and speaking of good organization for extra magazines, I recently bought a couple of these nifty items: Case Club 24 Magazine Holder .50 Cal Ammo Can Foam (Pre-cut, Closed Cell, Military Grade Foam)

And, for those who are ultra-organized, the venerable plastics company MTM recently added rifle magazine cases to their line.

Flat olive drab spray paint.  Most preppers will need to keep several cans of this Krylon paint on hand.  There are far more uses for The Beloved O.D. than just re-painting scratched or rusty ammo cans.  When The Schumer Hits The Fan you likely find the pressing need to quickly turn equipment that is in bright recreational colors (such as tents, backpacks, climbing gear, snowshoes, et cetera) into quasi-tactical gear. And of course, you will probably want to camouflage and break up the outlines of your Black Rifles, ASAP. It is probably a good idea to also buy a few cans of flat brown paint, for a contrasting color.  (Black is not a color normally found in nature. Use it very sparingly.)

Make a Suggestion

Want to suggest Recommendations of your own? Then please send them to JWR. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) Thanks!

    1. I am not sure where to find those at either, but I would like to know. Does anyone have an idea where to get them? Is it cardboard or something else?

  1. Got the Fixxxer mag pouches – glued some Velcro strips on the back of each pouch – so I now got back-to-back pouches that hold what I need in a nice, well priced solution. Bear in mind, found the larger capacity mags are tight fit and cover needs to be pulled tight. Nevertheless, good value and utility.

  2. Any links for the paperback version of “Basics of Resistance: The Practical Freedomista, Book I”? I’d prefer to have paper, than Amazon reaching in and removing it off the Kindle reader anytime they choose.

  3. Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, is starting a new venue for content creators. It will launch on July 4 this summer. It will be called Real.Video. You can enter that into your browser and go to the page-holder site. There you can “pre-register” to have a channel. I don’t know how it will all work as far as advertisers and such, but I know Mike Adams is a solid guy and a patriot. Check it out if you have a YouTube channel and want to move it.
