JWR’s Recommendations of the Week

Here are JWR‘s Recommendations of the Week for various media, tools, and gear of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week’s emphasis is on forest thinning.

Books:

The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible, 2nd Edition: Discover Ed’s High-Yield W-O-R-D System for All North American Gardening Regions: Wide Rows, Organic Methods, Raised Beds, Deep Soil

Scouting And Patrolling: Ground Reconnaissance Principles And Training

Movies:

Slum Dog Millionaire. JWR’s Comments: This movie is intense and has some crudity. But it shows just how cruel life is for India’s slum dwellers.

Land of Mine. JWR’s Comments:  The events depicted, though fictionalized, are essentially true.  Until this film was released, very few had heard about the use of impressed POWs for de-mining, following World War II.

Instructional Videos  (Forest Thinning)

Wranglerstar: Forest Transformation You Wont Believe!  JWR’s Comments: Clearing undergrowth and forest thinning is important for fire protection.  It is also crucial for creating clear fields of fire, for retreat  security.

Small Off-Grid Cabin Building Project (Part 1)

How to Replace a Bathroom Sink Drain and Drain Trap

Online Sermon Videos:

Alistair Begg: Times of Difficulty.  JWR’s Comments: Pastor Begg is one of the few frequently-heard “radio preachers” worth listening to.  Unlike many of his contemporaries, Begg has not  sold out to to presenting only wishy-washy words of kindness. Instead, his doctrine is sound, he is unashamed of the Gospel of Christ, and he doesn’t hesitate to confront the sins of this world.

Hell’s Greatest Hoaxes On America (Part 1) – Message by Dr. Chuck Baldwin on Apr. 30, 2017

Podcasts:

Mtn Mester

The First 40 Miles (Hiking and Backpacking for Newbies)

Blogs:

Kent’s “Hooligan Libertarian” Blog

The War on Guns (David Codrea) JWR’s Comments: Codrea is one of the most ignored and under-rated defenders of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  His blog is well worth reading.

1,200 Piece Nylon Locknut Assortment USS, SAE, and Metric | Coarse and Fine Thread Grade 8, 5, and 8.8

  1. Will the freezer automatically switch from AC to Propane if the power goes out? That would make it ideal for my mountain place where I am not always around.

  2. We had the privilege of hearing Alistair Begg at a church conference a few months ago. He is quite impressive, and we concur with your opinion of him; he’s the real deal. We would definitely attend his church if we had to live in the Cleveland area.

  3. If you’re buying canning jars go ahead & buy 3 or four packs of extra Ball lids to tuck away to use for bartering purposes after TEOTWAWKI. Then buy 2 sets of reusable Tattler lids for yourself. And if you have a few more dollars to spare buy a couple of copies of the Ball Blue Book of Canning & Preserving for bartering goods, too

  4. That’s pretty expensive for jars. I routinely see them in big box stores for $14/dozen, and I’ve gotten them cheaper than $10 by waiting for them to go on sale.

  5. I could not agree with JWR more in his comments about David Codrea. Lest we forget, it was David and the late Mike Vanderboegh who broke open the Operation Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal. There would have been no Congressional hearings without their early work on bringing it to light.
