Growing up in a small Iowa town I began painting houses, exterior and interior. One of the homes I painted had an old-time panoramic photo of a bunch of U.S. cavalry solders in a typical division layout. I asked the owner of the house where he got the photo from; he pointed to an obscure mounted US cavalryman in the photo and said “that’s me”, then pointed to the guy up front and said ‘that’s General Pershing’. I was dumbfounded, even at age 16, to be in the presence of someone who had been in such an historical operation. Wish I knew where that picture was now………RIP Billy F. you were a hero.
