Economics & Investing For Preppers

Here are the latest news items and commentary on current economics news, market trends, stocks, investing opportunities, and the precious metals markets. We also cover hedges, derivatives, and obscura. And it bears mention that most of these items are from the “tangibles heavy” contrarian perspective of SurvivalBlog’s Founder and Senior Editor, JWR. Today’s focus is on discontinued SIG pistols. (See the Tangibles Investing section.)

Tangibles Investing (Discontinued SIG Pistols):

Many folks have heard that SIG has discontinued the Model 239. But savvy tangibles investors should take a close look at the other models (and variants) that SIG discontinued in 2018, when they decided to slightly narrow their pistol product line. Some of these that are desirable should be acquired in “new in factory box” condition, for long term appreciation. For example, most of their discontinued M1911s are worth buying as an investment. Ditto for the discontinued US Navy Anchor-marked P226 “Mk.25” variants.

But I don’t recommend models in fading chamberings such as .357 SIG and .40 S&W.  Also beware of models that were made specifically to cater to magazine-restrictive states–like the P239. Here is the full list:

Please send your economics and investing news tips to JWR. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who particularly watch individual markets. And due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” investing news. We often get the scoop on economic and investing news that is probably ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. I didn’t understand the comment about the Sig Sauer P220 .45 cal. 4.4in barrel Nitron DA/SA, since it’s one of their best sellers. All P220’s from the beginning are either 8 (standard) or 10 (extended) round magazine capable. Am I missing something?

      1. Thanks for the clarification! I did check and the 220RM-45-BSS appears to be a “gun control” state compliant version (I was thinking of the 220R-45-BSS version). Thanks for the Blog! Much good info here.

  2. Although I agree with the P239 not being a good investment, it does make an excellent concealed carry gun. I am not sure I agree with the statement that it caters to capacity restricted states. It is a very flat gun, and I believe the capacity is restricted by the design. I own two, and use them in warmer weather when the Glock 19 is too bulky for summer weight clothing. I would also suggest collecting any of the Sig 10mm P220s, discontinued or not. For whatever reason, the 10mm seems to be holding its value.
