The Prepper’s American Dream: A Practical Guide To Strategic Relocation- Part 3, by Charles T.

Land: Does the area you are moving to offer an improvement from your current residential situation? How fertile is the ground, if you are planning on gardening? Are there regulations on livestock or farming activities, if you plan on farming? What is the cost of living, compared to your current location? Is the housing market higher or lower compared to your current location? Are property taxes higher or lower in your location? Is the kind of house/property you would like to purchase readily available? Do houses tend to stay on the market for a long time, or is the resell …

The Prepper’s American Dream: A Practical Guide To Strategic Relocation- Part 2, by Charles T.

Planning a relocation When my wife and I realized that our current location was not where we wanted to stay long term, we had to take the hard step of figuring out where else to go. To do this, we leaned heavily on the core values we had identified for ourselves. We began our relocation pursuit by identifying that we were looking for somewhere that met the following criteria: We could afford to purchase a house on one salary. We could afford to have my wife stay at home with kids. There were mountains and plentiful outdoor spaces to explore. …

The Prepper’s American Dream: A Practical Guide To Strategic Relocation- Part 1, by Charles T.

If you closed your eyes and pictured your ideal bug out location, what would your mind’s eye see? You’d probably see green grass, blue skies, rolling hills, fertile farmland, your family, friendly neighbors, and a basement stocked with a thousand years of food and supplies. Now, open your eyes. Is that what surrounds you now? If not, then why not? Are you stuck in a job, weighed down by family obligations, struggling with debt, or just filled with fear? Many of us have an idea of what we want in life and what we think would be best for our …

Letter Re: When You Get Here

HJL, Having moved to a small town from a large metro area 23 years ago, and I found this article to be of interest. Although all the suggestions in this article are universally good and applicable to anyone moving into any new community, the brief mention of a drug and alcohol problem with the admonition to “stay out of bars” needs some more attention. There is a serious, escalating drug and alcohol problem in rural communities that, in fact, do “stay out of bars” as there isn’t enough room there. Around here, farmers post signs in their fields stating “these …

When You Get Here, by B.A.

I call this article “When You Get Here” for those whom are planning on moving or relocating to a rural area. It does have some hopeful connotation, as not everyone will be planning nor will everyone who is planning make it. Realistically you should be out of the cities already. Unfortunately, going off of census data from 1996 to 2014 the average U.S. urban population has been climbing from 78% to 81%. For Canada, it was 78% and now 82%. That just means there are more people in resource poor areas. However, let’s assume that you are going to be …

The Freedom March Continues! (Study this animated map. We are winning.) The recent success in the enactment of Constitutional Carry in Idaho (going into effect on July 1st) was good news. It set the stage for similar laws to be passed in other western, mid-western, and southern states. But the law was far from perfect. It did not include permitless concealed carry on college campuses. This leaves college students vulnerable at Gun Free Zones. (Read: Possible future massacre sites.) It also neglected to allow gun owners visiting from out of state to exercise their rights. I believe that the next …

The indictment count for the Malheur protests is now up to 26 defendants, and for the Bunkerville, Nevada protests now 19 defendants. (Some of those overlap, with the same folks getting charged for their involvement in both incidents.) The so-called “final indictee” of Malheur is said to be Jake Ryan, of Plains, Montana. (But some observers have voiced doubts about the eventual number of people who will be indicted for the Bunkerville protests, claiming that additional sealed indictments have been prepared.) The wording of the formerly-sealed Malheur indictments has numerous Federal conspiracy and other charges that if convicted and served …

Idaho: House Suspends Rules, Passes Concealed-Carry Bill. JWR’s Comments: While not a perfect bill, this is still great news for the Constitutional Carry movement. The governor is expected to sign the bill into law. The Montana legislature is expected to follow suit, when it comes back into session. (They meet only in alternating years.)
