Dear Editor, I appreciated DF’s letter on IRS 501(c)3 status and forwarded an edited version of it to my church leaders and friends. This morning, I was doing further research and discovered IRS publication 4220 titled “Applying for 501(c)3 Tax-Exempt Status.” On page 6 of that publication is the following paragraph: RELIGIOUS, The term church includes synagogues, temples, mosques, and similar types of organizations. Dear Editor, I noticed something creepy this year about Independence Day coverage, besides the constant fear mongering. The term “Independence Day” was hardly used. It was replaced with “July 4th” or “4th of July”. Fox News had a running theme of veterans, where they were thanking veterans for our freedom, et cetera. NBC used a theme of veterans and immigrants, as in being proud to be American. This has nothing to do with Independence Day. Shouldn’t we be celebrating the breaking away from a monarchy? The incidents that were previously listed are but a few of the documented mountain lion attacks on humans, most of which were small children. All lions involved in these attacks, that were located and destroyed, were found to be healthy. Some showed signs of hunger. So as we now clearly understand, there’s nothing cute or cuddly about mountain lions; they are savage and ruthless killers. Hugh, Here’s an interesting article about what happens when people and wild predators inhabit the same area. One detail jumped out at me– how the current estimated deer population in the entire state is 445,000. To put this in the perspective of the mall ninjas who plan to “head out into the wild and hunt for my food”: The average de-boned meat weight of an adult mule deer is less than 80 lbs. The human population of California is 38,800,000. Finding, killing, and butchering every deer in the entire state would provide less than 1 pound of meat per person. …

Greetings from sunny Florida. I had a good laugh reading the article regarding Jacksonville’s proposed city ordinance requiring vehicles to park front end in so that the rear end and vehicle tag is visible from the street. Yes, Florida only requires a tag on the rear end of the vehicle. There is no front end tag requirement, although you see lots of vanity tags on the front end. Go Gators! I digress.
