This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. (Idaho, Montana, eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Wyoming.) Much of the region is also more commonly known as The Inland Northwest. We also mention companies located in the American Redoubt region that are of interest to preppers and survivalists. Today, a description of the most remote places in CONUS.

Latest Idaho grad rates show modest gains and a 10-year high.
Montana
Reader Greg H. wrote to mention this piece of pending legislation in Montana that will probably have some unintended consequences: HB 27: Remove automatic agricultural classification for certain parcels. This bill would place the burden of proof on landowners that they are “legitimate” farmers, operating “for-profit”, or they will have to pay a higher property tax rate. If enacted, this law would be an affront to the American traditions of agrarianism, barter, and subsistence farming. I urge any SurvivalBlog readers who live in Montana to contact their state legislators, in opposition.

Central & Eastern Oregon
Meet Oregon’s 19 new state legislators. JWR’s Comments: Not surprisingly, most of the Republicans in the Oregon legislature are from east of the Cascades and from rural southwestern Oregon. The Democrats now have supermajorities in the state legislature and the state senate. Oregon’s Governor Tina Kotek is also a Democrat, and even more liberal than her predecessor. She is a self-proclaimed “progressive lesbian.” Many of her appointments have been ultra-liberal women. Her “First Lady” “wife” Aimee has been butting-in to setting state government policy. With the Dem supermajorities, Oregonians can now expect a raft of new gun restrictions, land use restrictions, and higher taxes. The “red” states are getting more red, while the “blue” states are getting more blue. It is high time for Eastern Oregon to become part of Idaho!
