Preparedness Notes for Thursday — December 31, 2020

December 31st is the birthday of Alexander Solzhenitsyn (pictured) and of Frederick Selous. (He died on January 4th, 1917.)

We’ve just heard of the passing of actress Dawn Wells (of Gilligan’s Island fame).  In her later years, she settled in Driggs, Idaho, a town famous for its view of the “back side” of the Grand Tetons. There, Wells did a stint as the town’s Mayor. So she was an honorary Redoubter.

  1. For an interesting (but tough) read, start on the “Gulag Archipelago” by Mr. Solzhenitsyn. It’s long and a bit hard to follow at times but I believe it will shed another light on the common understanding of communism & socialism as it understood by many Americans. Well worth your time and what else ya gonna do whilst locked in the house by winters chill.
    Happy New Year everyone.
    Long Live Our Republic

      1. Thank you RCB5472TN
If only everyone would read, Live Not By Lies by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. How well it fits today. He says all were indoctrinated in political classes, gags were stuffed in our mouths – no one listens, no elections! This could be from today so sad the direction we are headed as explained in this essay. The young socialists in the US are headed for a rude awakening. Too bad they’re taking the rest of us with them.

  2. Happy New Year’s Eve to SBlog readers!

I have some personal good news to share. Yesterday, by the kindness of the Lord, I found property in the area I wanted! I am teary eyed with joy. While I know He loves to give good gifts to His children, I still feel humbled and ecstatic at the same time.

I need to sell my house first, of course. Then the build will begin and take a year, per the contractor. Your prayers for strength during this process will be much appreciated.

Blessings to each of you. Your words of encouragement mean so much!!!

    1. Krissy,

Oh I am overjoyed to hear your news! You are always so kind and thoughtful to all of us here and you deserve this! I will be thinking of you and praying that you get a good price on your current home and that the build goes smoothly.

      Please keep us updated 🙂

      Have a Rockin great day!!

    2. Wow, Krissy that is wonderful news. I echo Jim, in that you will have a speedy sell and build in your new home region! Yay! The Lord God does answer prayers! He is so good!

    3. Wow wow wow! So happy for you Krissy! God is good – all the time 😀

While I searched for and eventually found my current home, actually even before escaping the previous situation God gave me Isaiah ch 54 to cling on to, and verse 2 especially comes to mind for you and all of us searching for a refuge…

  3. Jim, Avalanche Lily, RCB5472TN, RKRGRL68, CD NorthGA and Bear,
Thank you for the well wishes, prayers, verses and sharing my joy.
Happy New Year, and may our Lord bless each of you abundantly with Himself,

    [Got skills?]

Not everyone can afford to pay for training, but it would be good if you could. This is to say that we must be self motivated, and learn what we can on our own. I had to turn down an unsolicited offer from a Dean at the University of Copenhagen Med school cause I did not have the money. The tuition was free. And I still do not have money for training. I taught myself radio, auto mechanics, medicine and everything else I know. Anything you can stuff between your hears will be helpful. Learn how to conduct a classic L- ambush, or better yet for preppers without a SAW or RPK, a near and far inline ambush, or inverted V ambush could make all the difference. If you know more than the other guy, you will be far better able to defend yourself.

Learn first the basics, and learn it good…and also learn enough about radio and medicine. We do not need to be experts. Radio is not where my expertise lies. It is just one of many skill sets. Learn how SF thinks, organizes, and trains. I have cross trained myself as a medic as well. I am not the best, but I am better than nothing. If I were 20 years old, would SF would want me? That is the goal. I am now too old, but I know what I know. As they once said in SF, ”each one should teach one.” And that is also what I do to fight the enemy.

Become a walking and talking force multiplier. The Tin-man in the Wizard of OZ, did not have a brain, not because he did not have a diploma. He did not have a brain because he lacked confidence and common sense. A piece of paper, or license does not make you qualified, our God given right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and your ability, are all the credentials you need. My grand father only had a 6th education. He started as a ditch digger, yet retired as a VP of finance from the then largest corporation in the world. He used his brain to teach him self. So can we.
