Preparedness Notes for Thursday — June 25, 2020

On June 25th, 1876, Native American forces led by Chiefs Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull defeated the U.S. Army troops of Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer in a bloody battle near southern Montana’s Little Bighorn River. The Battle of Little Bighorn–also called Custer’s Last Stand – marked the most decisive Native American victory and the worst U.S. Army defeat in the long Plains Indian War. While complicated, the generally accepted reason for the battle is that the discovery of gold in South Dakota’s Black Hills in 1875 led to the U.S. government disregarding previous treaty agreements. The gruesome fate of Custer and his men outraged many white Americans and confirmed their image of the Indians as wild and bloodthirsty. Meanwhile, the U.S. government increased its efforts to subdue the tribes. Within five years, almost all of the Sioux and Cheyenne would be confined to reservations.

I just noticed that we’ve passed the 33,000 mark, for posted SurvivalBlog articles, columns, and quotes. And even though we added our Comments feature just a couple of years ago, there are now more than 55,500 posted comments. Thank you for your support, folks, in making SurvivalBlog such a success in these past 14 years! We will strive to continue to keep SurvivalBlog an “Old School” blog, with original content and genuine ethics. Unlike many other blogs, we refuse to sell out to the “paid placement” SEO mongers.

An Observation: Have you noticed how the the American News Cycle has turned into an enormous whipsaw? First, it was 24-hour a day shouting from the rooftops: “Pandemic! Social Distancing is crucial! The sky is falling!”  Then, just as the case numbers started to fall, the mainstream media turned on a dime to: “Mass protests! No need for Social Distancing, because, well, because, well just because we said so.” Then, the protests and riots died down. So they pivoted back to: “Pandemic! Social Distancing is crucial! The sky is falling!”  I think I know what might be the next stroke of the whipsaw…  Memorize this phrase: “Never get involved in a land war in Asia.” Do they really think that the American can’t see through their smokescreen? – JWR

  1. Sadly JWR, I do believe the average American doesn’t care.

I discuss politics sometimes with friends/neighbors, some from other parts of the US.
For whatever reason, some perfectly rational people I know are either ignorant, agnostic, or indirectly involved (e.g. education industry) in the destruction of the United States of America. The news surely has played a role, however I do not share your hope of people seeing through the fertilizer. They’re too lazy! They don’t want to confront their long held belief of government benevolence. That rabbit hole they will steadfastly ignore, despite tripping on it themselves!

…. its a large part of the reason I fear the US is doomed in its current shape and form.

    1. A good point K. I have many friends and family member that see through it all. Sadly, we are the radicals to be feared by the sheeple. The more “educated” friends, liberals, and others I know fall into your category. They are either so busy with life and their own world, OR, they think all of this is justified and payback is due. For them, to be aware enough of what is going on would require rational and honest thinking. Many people I know actually see it, but they refuse to acknowledge it. Will America as we know it finish the toilet bowl swirl? Possibly. My 23 year old son actually said he doesn’t think America, as it stands, will last more than another 10 years at the most. As I have said for a long time, Only a Holy God will be able to save us. I also predicted some time ago that this mob will come after Christian symbols. Sometimes I wish I couldn’t see this coming.

      1. We will all know in November whether or not the common people, the silent majority and patriots have seen all of this for what it is. If Trump is not reelected that will be a clear signal that we have as a nation chosen the radical left to lead us. If the puppet Biden wins I would expect the puppet masters to move us further left. If the Democrats keep the house and gain the Senate I would expect this shift to the radical left to become supercharged and may well require immediate preparation for SHTF.

        1. Yet, at the same time, we must stop looking to a political party or even Trump to save the country. Granted, the republican party leans far more heavily toward the side of saving this constitutional republic. But, as Dan said, only a Holy God will save us. The unfortunate situation in our country is that we have gotten so comfortable and been spoon-fed systematic ideas that have led many to give in to the idolatry of political party worship. I have been guilty of this myself and and beginning to see the error and correct my course. I hear other believers who are recognizing the modern form of idol worship that the current two-party system feeds. Yet, there are so many who are so sure that “if only my candidate wins, everything will be ok”. Everyone is so plagued with this irrational fear that the two-party tug-of-war is the war between good and evil while letting evil ooze in unabated all around them. I’m young by many standards (late 30s), but even I can remember when those opposing parties were able to work together better, societies and neighbors from many backgrounds worked together and got along in the civil sense.

I am sorely under-prepared for what’s coming, but I hope that my skillset and resources will help carry us to some group that will allow us in and let me provide my services in return for shelter and food for myself and my family. Otherwise, I fear for the ability to provide for and protect my family once all of this turns sideways. God bless you all.

          1. Jim Lee… please find strength in II Timothy 1:7 … pray for His Holy Spirit to guide you where He wants / needs you to be… remember ,Jim Lee, you HAVE the armor you need ( Ephesians 6:10-18 )

          2. Jim Lee, Take heart and join me in trusting the Lord to provide and guide us. There will be others like myself who will be happy to hire someone like you, as we will each need each other. As Tunnel Rabbit always says, “Security will be job number one.”

If I already had a place, I would ask you for references. However, I am not there yet, as I am blessed to be helping kids get to safer places and Redoubt first, and then it will be my turn, hopefully before the music stops.

Blessings, wisdom and the love of God to you and your family, Krissy

Maybe consider posting comments often, so you can become known to the community. BTW

        2. Krissy and RCB, wise words. Whoever is elected, we must be open to divine guidance and know who we trust. Consider who has your back and is within five minutes of you.

That’s for starters. Holy Spirit continues to open our eyes and send deep people to us. I make it a point to count my blessing daily, as I notice what I am taking for granted and express gratitude for simple things like water.

          Carry on in grace

      2. Dan… thank you speaking Truth… “ Only a Holy God will be able save us “ … He is a merciful Father and a Just Father… May we ALL as SB family follow His words fin II Chronicles 7:14

  2. JWR-
Congratulations on the SurvivalBlog milestone achievement. Not selling out and doing what everyone else is doing is part of that success and I hope you never change that – over my lifetime I scratch my head when I see very successful business models change for the sake of change. One being Walmart abandoning the thing that made them successful which was the American Made products. Now it’s China mart. Yeah the share holders might make a few cent more in dividends but it is short sighted. When shopping at the Sam Walton old school Walmart I think many customers had a sense of pride knowing they were supporting other Americans. Pride is a good emotion which I believe would tend to lead to more spending in their store. I can’t tell you the number of times I have left Walmart empty handed because the reviews of the products they carry that I want are dismal. It’s great to know that we don’t have to worry about waking up and sitting down with our coffee and going to SurvivalBlog to see that they have become “Walmart”. Thanks for all that you do!

  3. Congrats JWR on your milestones, they are commendable. I for one have enjoyed and learned much from it since finding it a good number of years ago, daily affirmation of true American values. Thank you sir.
As to the original Walmart, I’m also mystified at the continuance of having stuff made in china, or elsewhere. You ship a job outside the country, one person (or more) has no income, the people he supports by spending his money where they work have a loss of income, the people they support by spending money where they work no longer have jobs and on and on and on.So it will come full circle where no one has a job, hence no money to even buy Chinese built junk so what now Bevis, – well I guess you can always just shut the entire world down, go back to living in caves, dragging knuckles in the dirt….. It would never come to that , there is to many ambitious and inventive people. But if you follow the scenario out that’s what it leads to…. There is cause and effect for everything….

  4. This rabbit hole goes deep. From time to time, it is good to look outside of one’s own box. It is an interesting interview that could be challenging to those with a normalcy bias. As a consolidator of information in this high tech, high speed world, it should not be ignored least any part of it might be true. I am interested in the person who is being interviewed, Celeste Solum.

  5. Meanwhile in our Solar System, all remains Minimum.

SOLAR MINIMUM CONDITIONS ARE IN EFFECT: At the end of May, the sun unleashed the strongest solar flare since 2017. Since then … quiet. Solar wind is blowing slowly, the sun’s X-ray output is flatlining, and no sunspots have been seen for nearly 10 days. Welcome back to Solar Minimum.

A GLOBAL MAGNETIC ANOMALY: Lately, Earth’s magnetic field has been quiet. Very quiet. The sun is in the pits of what may turn out to be the deepest Solar Minimum in a century. Geomagnetic storms just aren’t happening.

  6. Congratulations, JWR! …and thank you for all you and Avalanche Lily do to make reader participation in the SB possible. It’s wonderful to be part of the SB community, and I am sure many, many others would echo this sentiment.

Loved the reference to this movie line from your observations although in the current circumstance it’s also profoundly serious: “Never get involved in a land war in Asia.” The Princess Bride is one of the few books well translated to the big screen. In fact, I first read the book while at a summer camp — a fun memory!

    1. Another relevant quote from that movie: “It’s just that they’re (masks) terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.”. One of my family’s favorite movies, I can and have quoted dialogue from THE PRINCESS BRIDE while fencing.

JWR, thanks for the Petersen link, it was a nice start to my morning. Our family loves traditional Celtic music, and you can hear those roots in their playing.

  7. Custer, in spite of his bad press, was a very competent military man. All the stories make him out to be a fool. He did not know the exact size of the Indian force but that was unknowable. He had a plan, a tactic and had his second in command followed orders this all might have been called Crazy Horse’s last stand. In researching Custer it became obvious that his reputation was intentionally smeared perhaps to cover up for the failing of others in the Army who were derelict in their duty. He was the “Gen Patton” of his time; bold, brash and unafraid. He clearly made other army officers look small by comparison and needed to be taken down a notch or two. They succeeded.

    1. Another factor that is often overlooked is that the 7th Cavalry had recently been forced to turn in their lever-action repeating rifles, and replace them with single-shot Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield carbines. “Standardization” is not always in the best interest of soldiers.
