One of the easiest instruments to learn to play is the recorder. They are great for “grid down” entertainment, and compact enough to carry when backpacking. Here is one that is turned from wood rather than the typical molded plastic: Eastar maple wood recorder.
Re: For the Ammo-Can Stove kit or DIY project, (which is really cool…) I would highly recommend buying one of the china ammo cans that are available at Tractor Supply or your local Mega-Lo-Mart store(s) for $10+-. No reason to waste a now ‘not-so-available-and-expensive’ U.S. ammo can for a project that’s going to burn it up.
FYI: A china ammo can lid will not fit a U.S. Ammo Can and vice-versa, plus I question the air-tight / water-tight seal and long term pliability of the rubber on those lids… Buyer Beware!
Rucksack Bob, If you’re worried about the can being waterproof, just put about an inch of water in the can and close it up. Turn the can upside down and leave it overnight. If it doesn’t leak its good to go.
I’m sure the rubber is good right now…today. I’m thinking 10 years or more down the road. Poor grades of rubber (I.E. cheap Chinese) become hard and unpliable, even brittle to the point of breaking / cracking. I have G.I. ammo cans dated as early as 1959 that still have good rubber on them.
HINT** use a light coat of silicone grease on any of your rubber seals, it works miracles on preserving your rubber. it’s usually available at any auto parts store
Yesterday, at our local Walmart, I paid cash for a box of Remington Gold 22, with 525 rounds. The price was less than $0.05 per round, before sales tax. THis looks like a good time to stock up on ammo. The price may increase next winter, depending on how polls for the 2020 election look.
