    1. To Charles K,

      Our PAL (possession acquisition license) is the only permit needed. You do not need to buy an extra permit for each gun. The single PAL license allows you to buy as many guns as you want. No extra fees for each gun.

  6. You must take the course BEFORE you apply for a PAL (Possession and Acquisition License). It is best to take the course and apply for both a Restricted and Non-restricted licence at the same time. Allows you to puchace handguns and Ar-15s as well as the standard non-restricted firearms. Canadian gun laws are confusing so as your local gun store for an explanation

      A restricted PAL is a two day course that costs more money. No point getting one unless you’re an avid range shooter since the range is the ONLY place you can take a handgun and under very strict travel conditions. You could live on remote acreage but it’s illegal for you to shoot your handgun even on a remote property. There are lots of nice non-restricted guns to found, most people do not need a restricted license.

        Best is to ask your local gun store. Most courses are provided through either them or a private instructor. Generally takes a whole day unless you are able to find an instructor willing to do a condensed version but most take it quite seriously as it provides a lot of useful safety information. Especially if you don’t have any previous firearms experience. For those with lots of firearms experience the course will seem like common sense.

  7. I would like to make some corrections to this article. For a non-restricted PAL you should first take the one day firearms course. Any shooting range holds these classes but they charge double what a private instructor does who conducts these classes in his home. Search for local firearms instructors in your area. Our instructor cost $100/head but their fees can vary. You will not get your PAL until you have taken & passed the firearms course so there is no point sending in your application until you pass the course. There is a $60 non-refundable fee to process the non-restricted application. Our wait time to get our license was exactly 2 months from the day we mailed it.

    We purchased two SKS rifles from the local Cabela’s for about $200 each plus a crate (1500 rounds) of surplus 7.62×39 ammo ($360). The rifles are the Chinese model, not Russian but they work excellent. We put hundreds of rounds through both this summer with no misfires. Cabela’s always seems to have them available either in store or online along with the surplus ammo crates. So for about $800 Canadian you get a lot of firepower and ammo. Alberta is the only province without a provincial sales tax so we save a few bucks on taxes as well.

      two reasons. 1) because pesonal independence is being eroded at all levels to force dependence on the state, and 2) because the “news” media is in actuality a singular entity broadcasting the same message as directed.     Unless i am misunderstanding this statement, as Christian that believes the bible to be the very word of God and in that word i am exhorted to spread the Gospel to all nations for the salvation of others and the glory of God, i find this to be a contradiction to the bible.

    This statement also seems to contradict the founder of the blog’s posts on Christian charity. I would like to ask if he is in agreement with this mindset being that the article is posted here from a survivalblog reporter.

      1. Jesus associated with sinners, drunkards and tax collectors (Matthew 9:9-13, Mark 2:13-17 and Luke 5:27-32 for example). He was grumbled against and judged by the Pharisees. They murmured against Him and His disciples. Luke 5:32 explains why he associated with sinners: “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance”. I realize i am to provide for and protect my loved ones, but i also need to consider my duty and privilege as a Christian of evangelizing. If a Christian wouldn’t have preached the Gospel to this sinner i would still be separated from God and on my way to eternal punishment. i dont need to live in Sodom to evangelize, but i also shouldn’t cause nonbelievers to believe i am a Pharisee without a message of salvation. This life is temporary for all of us including the unsaved. In the end Jesus has done it all for us and provided all things necessary for eternity.
        I constantly need to examine myself to see if I am acting like a Pharisee or a disciple of Jesus.

  11. AMEN!!! Another Christian brother that has advocated being an armed Christian for many years, I am happy to see this article. This article has moved me to comment on the site for the first time since I was introduced to it 10 years ago.

    I tell my Christian brothers that it is your duty as a husband and father (my life long Christian brothers are all married with children) to protect to your last breath your family. They bring up the first commandment, thou shall not kill. And I tell them read the correct translation, thou shall not MURDER.

    No matter if it is God’s design or the devil’s game for the invention of gun powder and then firearms, the tools are there for us Christian brothers to protect ourselves and our families. If we do not, how can we face our Maker and answer the question, why did you not protect yourself and your fellow Brothers, Sisters, Mothers, Fathers, Sons and Daughters when the tools were available to you in addition to prayer.

It’s a waste of time.” is contradictory to what the Bible teaches and my question if the founder (senior editor) of the blog agrees with this statement will not be posted I wanted to know if I could get a response to the latter via email.

  13. “Quebec CAQ is poised to win the Quebec election”. Seriously? As of Sept. 23 (today), the election is too close to call. You are are quoting an obsolete poll result from the beginning of the campaign.

    As for the “must pass a test to pass basic knowledge within 3 years”, the proposed test is on French language knowledge only. And it has no hope of ever being passed, as immigration/deportation are a federal jurisdiction.

    It seems you are a long way from Quebec, and writing about it without really knowing what is going on.

  15. Along with all the other bushwa posted, the Canadian national GST is 5%, NOT 13%. And for a newbie ‘survivalist/shooter’ there’s better choices than an SKS. Do the homework. Another thing, a lot of really good people are not quite so wrapped up in the Christian ethic, but WILL be with ‘us’ in The Event.

  16. I recall an aquaintance was able to purchase a Brno 465 .22 Hornet rifle from Canada during the 1980’s, when Iron Curtain products were not able to be imported into the U.S.. That was using his noggin !
