SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. The hunger stones have appeared again.
An appeals court has ruled that the “smart meters” being used by the utility companies in Naperville, Illinois constitute a “search” under the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment which establishes the “right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures.” However, they determined that the search was “reasonable”. At issue is the meters propensity to report on a minute-by-minute bases rather than the traditional monthly basis. While the updated readings can help the utility company better plan it’s provisions, the data can also be used to determine other information about the residents that the utility company just shouldn’t have.
School Bus Conversion
Reader A.D. sent in the link to this blog that SurvivalBlog readers may find interesting. This is a family of six that sold their home and converted a school bus into an RV to chase their dreams. They outline the conversion of the school bus along with the floorplan they used. It is an interesting read. I have several friends who have changed their lifestyles to be more mobile and use the tiny house concept as their base. Personally, I don’t like the migrant lifestyle, but if you do, you should check this site out.
Reader J.W. sent in this article on the appearance of the “Hunger Stones”. These are stones that are exposed when the water levels in the Elbe river dwindle. This is a major river that begins in the Czech Republic and flows through Germany. There are more than a dozen Hunter Stones that serve as records of previous droughts establishing that the extreme heat and drought of this year is by no means unique to history. Why is this important? Because it shows the fallacy of the global climate change crowd. Weather is cyclic business despite what the liberal progressives want to tell you. global climate change isn’t about the weather. It’s about control.
Breaking Smart Phone Addiction
Reader DSV sent in this article on breaking the smart phone addiction. Children are especially vulnerable to this addiction, but I’ve seen plenty of adults in this boat as well. Hardly a day goes by that I’m not driving on the road and seeing someone texting on their phone while driving. The fact that it is an outlawed activity and that there are daily accidents caused by distracted driving means nothing to them. Smart phone addiction is an increasing problem. Make sure you’re not part of it.
Whom to Leave Behind
Reader H.L. sent in this article on an Ohio middle school that had an assignment that asked students to decide who they would leave behind if the world was about to end. They had to use criteria of age, religion and other descriptors as their markers for their decisions. Choices included a homosexual pro athlete, a militant African-American medical student and a female movie star who was a victim of sexual assault. This is a repeat of the “Situational Ethics” back in the ’70s that the public schools tried to introduce. The only difference is the situation. Then is was people stranded in a life boat with only enough food for a few. Now it’s about the end of the world. Get your kids out of public school while you can so they can learn the basics of education rather than this drivel!
White Gas Shortage
Reader Capt Nemo wrote in to state that local retails in his area have been unable to restock white gas for the last three months. Even Walmart is having trouble getting it. He had to drive to every store within 50 miles to get two cases of fuel together. When he was able to find it, the price was over $14/gallon. I’ve noticed that most of the modern camping stores only carry the newer propane stoves, but my favorite stove is the Coleman Guide Series Dual Fuel. When you combine that with this LP gas converter, you end up with a tri-fuel capable stove. If one gas source has issues, simply move to another. Note that when using standard automotive gas that there are additives in it. You only want to use that when White Gas and LP are unavailable.
Ontario has passed a totalitarian bill that allows the state to take kids from Christian homes that oppose the LGBTQI agenda as well as gender ideologies put forward by the state. The bill also effectively bans couples who disagree with that agenda from fostering or adopting children. Bill 89 (the Supporting Children, Youth and Families Act of 2017) repeals and replaces the form Child and Family Services Act that governs child protective services, adoptions and foster care services. The bill adds “gender identity” and “gender expression” as factors to be considered. At the same time, the bill deletes the religious faith in which the parents are raising the child as a factor and mandates that only the child’s own “creed” or “religion” be considered when assessing the best interests of the child. Thanks to C.E. for the link.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!
