This is always true. When and if (or when not if) our country is ever attacked by ICBM’s there are plans in place but they do not include alerting the public. After all there are no fallout or bomb shelters, there are no plans for civilians, there is nothing. So the Military and top leaders will know with 15 – 20 minutes notice but your first awareness of a nuclear attack will be a blinding flash of light.
Other SHTF or TEOTWAWKI events will unfold over hours to days to weeks and while most of us will be unaware of the finer points of the crisis the handwriting will be there if you want to see it. In fact it is this very obtuseness of information that will give you an advantage. IMHO the most likely SHTF event will be another great depression. As for an End Of The World event I would say China deciding they can survive a nuclear war and hitting us first.

Sound and sage advice. Having and getting to a shelter in the rural areas is not in the cards for me, So, I’ll have a go of it in the suburbs. I may even survive a while. But if a nuke hits spook aircraft central in Ft. Worth, the prevailing winds will make life here deadly. In which case, I have a plan B, C, D, etc. I’ve a feeling a lot of people are going to meet each other in the “woods” (National Forests, campgrounds, picnic areas or just plain open range) and have a jolly time for a couple of weeks until it gets cold and people get hungry. Ever read World War Z, the book? Events will transpire, and probably in a way not planned for by us, nor readily survivable, so at best I think we’re all just rolling the dice, and hoping to make our number or hit a seven. I’m more focused on skills rather than gear.
TEOTWAWKI will come… it’s called death. I think we are all programmed to survive. I think that it is a fundamental human response. I saw the economy falter in the eighties with soaring interest rates and a fundamental inability to do certain basic things because of the financial situation. I’ve taken this seriously for 35 years but there’s a bigger picture. It’s just a matter of time before we have to deal with the decades of overspending. One thing or another will come to visit, but death always comes to visit and that’s what we should be prepared for. Genesis 15:6 says that Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness. It’s really not any more complicated than that. Probly ought to just forget religion and go to the instruction manual (Bible) that the being who spoke the universe into existence gave us. That’s the only place where you are going to find an accurate explanation of where we came from, what we are, our condition, it’s only solution and an account of what the future holds for everyone… Everyone lives forever, somewhere… that should be your primary concern for yourself and those you love. Ephesians chapter 2 verses 8 and 9 tell us that “by grace we are saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not of works lest anyone should boast.” Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life nobody comes to the father except by me. Trust what God said and respond in submission and obedience. Hey, the ultimate future is bright!!! 2 Corinthians 5:20.
