His works were the most authoritative historical text we had in the old days. He inspired me to learn Russian and visit the country to learn of its culture. His text: A concise history of the Russian Revolution sits on a shelf beside my desk which holds only the most important books I own.
Read two or three of his books over the years. Very enlightening.
