The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. I found the paper pot planter an intriguing product today. Given the size of our current garden, this may be the labor saving device I want.

Wildfire fighters Wanted

Cody (from Wranglerstar) has put out a call for redcard firefighters that are willing to deploy on short notice for a period of up to two weeks. The crews are shorthanded and those that would normally deploy with him are otherwise tied up. If you are qualified and ready for immediate deployment, shoot him an email!.

Serenity

German and American researchers are wanting to use hormone treatments to make Germans less hostile to Muslim immigrants. No one knows exactly how they intend to accomplish this and the study is just in the “proof of concept” stage. Apparently the female hormone fosters a nurturing and bonding between mother and child. The hope is that they can also use this to foster the same type of bonding between the host country and the immigrants. I guess they haven’t watched the movie Serenity yet. Reavers, here we come! Thanks to reader T.J. for the link.

Medical

A new strain of pneumonia is cropping up in China. This particular strain is drug-resistant, deadly and contagious. The strain gained attention when five patients in a new hospital with good hygiene were killed by it. China says that it is resistant to all of the known drugs that they have in their tools but that they think one particular drug available in the U.S. may have some effect on it. So far, all of the patients who have died were in their 50’s or older and they all died from lung failure, multiorgan failure or septic shock. Thanks to P.S. for the link.

George Soros

For those who are interested, there is a petition on whitehouse.gov that is seeking to have George Soros declared a terrorist and have all of his assets seized under RICO and NDAA. It’s a nice thought, isn’t it? The garnered the necessary signatures to get a response from the White House in only 10 days, but you can still get in on it if you want to. It is also encouraging that people are beginning to pay attention to this shadowy figure that has long funded anarchy and socialism. Thanks to J.H. for the link.

Plastic Production

Hurricane Harvey just made one of the most important chemicals in modern industry a rare commodity. Ethylene is an odorless, colorless gas and most people don’t know anything about it. But you have heard of it. It’s the “ethylene” as in “polyethylene plastic”. Almost all of the plants in the Houston area have been shut down by the hurricane and that accounts for 61% of the U.S. production capacity. The chemical is used in nearly all industries from cars to diapers. It’s just another example of how tightly integrated our economy is and how fragile it can be. Hopefully, production can start back up soon before the squeeze is felt.

Made in America

Finding products that are made in America is getting harder and harder. A SurvivalBlog reader recently sent in this interactive map that will list USA brands by state that are available on Amazon. Just click on the state you are interested in and it will pop up a list of brands made in that state. I noticed that there are quite a few brands and products that are not on the list though.

Paper Pot Planter

Mrs. Latimer has long used paper pots to give her seedlings a head start in the spring. However, reader G.P. sent in this link to a Japanese paper pot planter that uses paper pots linked in a chain to simplify the whole process. He also sent in this YouTube video showing the whole process from start to finish. The host actually lays down 400 leeks in under 30 minutes with the planter. I can see where this would be a wonderful time/labor savor. My only concern is access to the special chain-linked paper pots. I wonder if you could manufacture something like that from scratch.

News Tips:

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. “German and American researchers are wanting to use hormone treatments to make Germans less hostile to Muslim immigrants.”

Instead, why don’t they use hormone treatments to make Muslim immigrants less hostile to Germans?

    1. The EU government has never been the servant of the nations that comprise it. It is rather, their master, and the servant of the globalist banksters whose brainchild it was. A Europe that desires greater Liberty is not to the globalist liking, hence the move to have Europe conquered by a culture that not only has no use for Liberty, but whose guiding principles explicitly forbid it. Refujihadis, put on the move by the military and clandestine operations of the past US administrations, in service to the globalist cause, are a invading army, although most of them marched in unarmed. Their militant progeny, far more numerous than those of their pacified hosts, who are compelled by the EU to subsidize their invaders, will complete the conquest.

  2. I’m betting that the German gov will be
adding this hormone to it’s citizens water supply
in order to accomplish their goal.

How evil can a government get?

Stay tuned, we’re about to find out.

  3. Not all of products from these Made in America companies are US Made. Most Danner styles are made overseas. If you sort a catagory by highest to lowest price, the first few highest price will be US made.
