  1. Thanks Jefferson, appreciate the prayers…its been 10-weeks since the hip replacement surgery…I can’t hop, skip and jump just yet, but I can sure hop and skip…LOL Thanks also for the kind words on the Ruger .44 Spl article – outstanding revolver…stoked with the right ammo, it’ll get the job done!

  2. A few years back I bought a Taurus stainless steel revolver, 2″ barrel, 5 shot cylinder. At the time, the only ammo I could get for it was Winchester factory 240 gr lead semi-wad that had a tendency to back out the primers on recoil bad enough to lock the cylinder. Otherwise the gun went through it’s paces and shot fairly well for me, plus the wife seemed to like it enough that I let her have it. Sadly, she decided to sell it one day without telling me, and I’ve since not been able to replace it. It was a nice little carry gun. Much as she liked it, she still preferred her little SA 9mm. I guess for her, owning more than one sidearm is not being frugal? I suppose that’s why she doesn’t have the combo to my gun safe! LOL

  3. Hello Pat…I live in your neck of the woods about 15 miles from your local gun shop…would love to meet you sometime…what are are your thoughts on the .41 magnum?

  4. I have the ruger red hawk in 44 mag and i love it. It has the 4.5″ barrel. When in the human jungle and when shooting a lot of rounds for practice I shoot 44 spec. I love the way that it shoots

  5. Thank you Pat for the article. Good luck with the hip.
The GP100 is an outstanding firearm. Should be a fine platform. I’m like you, love the .44 Special. I have a Smith, Model 24, 4″ round butt gun that is wonderful. A bit of a large gun as it is an N frame. One of these in the Smith L frame would be wonderful indeed!
My favorite load is a 240 gr. cast Semiwadcutter at about 900 fps. Great for self defense regardless of the number of legs the assailant has. Accurate and sufficiently powerful. I think I would kick the velocity up to around 1,000 to 1,050 fps if I were to pack in bear country or use it for both defense and hunting while in the field. I like it a LOT better than it’s magnum brother.
    Keep up the good work
