Here are JWR‘s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers:
Books:
The Collapse of Complex Societies
Note: This title is also available as a Kindle e-book. (Everyone should own a Kindle Fire Tablet.)
Movies:
Unbranded. An amazing documentary about four new Texas A&M graduates who go on a grand adventure. They adopt a string of 16 wild mustangs from the BLM, green break them, and then immediately ride them from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.
Swimming in Auschwitz. (Currently available only for Amazon Prime members. Keep in mind that if you become an Amazon Prime member that you will get streaming access to thousands of movies and television shows at no extra charge, as well as free shipping on most orders.)
Instructional Videos:
How to plant a potted tree
Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory Detail Strip Part 1 – Disassembly. (JWR’s Comments: This model is my new favorite, among production .22 pistols. Mine is just as accurate as my stainless Ruger Mark II. And the new stainless Smith SW22 is much easier to disassemble for cleaning! Also, the threaded muzzle on my example will probably come in handy, if the Hearing Protection Act gets through Congress and becomes law.)
A fascinating video from Russia: I found a fully stocked underground safe house…
Online Sermon Videos:
For What Did They Die? – Message by Dr. Chuck Baldwin on May 28, 2017
The Preeminence of Christ – Dr. James White
Podcasts:
The Engineering Commons Podcast
Blogs:
Live The Old Way
Loyal Gardener
Gear (Generators):
Champion Power Equipment 100297 8000 Watt Dual Fuel Portable Generator with Electric Start
Note: Amazon offers a wide variety of other generators, and a few of them are available with free shipping for Amazon Prime members.
It is also noteworthy that Amazon.com offers deep discounts on open-box and used tools and home improvement items.

Are you aware that Amazon’s Kindle Fire now includes “Alexa” (as in, Amazon’s Echo spyware)? You cannot get the non-Alexa model of this Fire. I believe all models include (or soon will) Alexa. I would not bring one of those into my home.
I recommend the regular Kindle e-reader (no Alexa).
Alexa needs to be activated to function in ‘settings’. Anyway, what are hiding? Just kidding!!
Or download the Kindle app to your computer or tablet. It’s free & no worries about Big Brother listening to you.

Mr. Rawles:
Do you have a recommendation for a solar powered generator? We live in a large metropolitan area (Phoenix) and I am concerned about the noise from a gas powered generator. Thank you.
I’m not Mr Rawles however they do have 2 solar power generators with links listed in the prizes listed for the writing contests. There is one that is a bigger investment up front however it is expandable, quiet EMP hardened and will eventually pay for its self. You can find a lot of amazing links to smaller e-commerce sites with quality made in the USA products. It is worth poking around the site to find these products that help with self sufficient lifestyles. Most of the sites and products I have found are like-minded Americans who have found solutions for living more self sufficient life-styles. I have not yet been disappointed with any site or product I have found on Survival Blog.
My wife has two Fire tablets, and between us we have four reader-only Kindles, one of which is a Paperwhite.
I can’t believe anyone would recommend the Fire for anything other than playing games. As a reader it is as useless as a smart phone, the battery life is measured in hours. The old fashioned (haha) reader-only devices have battery life measured in weeks. Even the back light on the paperwhite model doesn’t significantly reduce battery life.
If reading is what you intend, forget the Fire.
