  1. While I certainly agree with eliminating tobacco and alcohol; coffee is not the dark evil it is sometimes portrayed as. It is full of powerful antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory and has been proven to aid in fighting off neurological disorders like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. 2 cups a day and none past 3pm will do no harm and certainly aid in focus and provide a boost of energy when needed. The issues in coffee usually lie in the massive amounts of sugar people add. Excess sugar is an obvious problem. Too much caffeine and regular consumption past 3pm can cause problems with cortisol levels, which can result in endocrine issues, affecting sleep, thyroid and circadian rhythms. While coffee is a no go for those with an existing ulcer, it is rarely the cause;it is a combination of stress, lack of exercise, poor sleep habits and a poor diet that fosters digestive issues. An active, well rested individual who takes care of their gut health has nothing to fear from moderate caffeine intake.

  2. I agree that good nutrition will be a problem in tough times and education on nutrition will be helpful to understand how to compensate for that problem. Good article. I disagree that coffee is harmful and in fact consider coffee to be healthful. I won’t try to convince you but rather urge you to look past the negative stories about coffee and take another look.

  3. Excellent article. Full of very useful, specific information. I’ve been prepping for almost 10 years, but did not know many of the nuances in survival nutrition highlighted in this and the previous article.

  4. After eliminating wheat from my diet for several months, I have found I am sensitive to it especially bread.I will be putting up beans and rice instead of the grain. I find it more versatile to cook with (more choices of dishes)and a complete protein together.
