  1. I’ve been teaching cane defense (actually, cane protection) to seniors for about 12 years. Defense means you have to wait for your assailant to make the first move. Protection means that if you see imminent and severe harm coming your way, Why wait? After all, we are the older, slower, and more brittle. The youngest in my class is 62; the oldest is 84. We do know how to take care of business. I like your article. What I use to allow folks to learn strikes is, of course, a BOB. Without actually killing someone, the best target is the knees. For them to get used to striking at the knee joint, I use a thing called a delineator with a doubled up rubber base. A delineator is one of those things you see in road construction. ‘Stands about 42″ tall and about 4″ in diameter and is bright orange. I mark where the average knee joint is with duct tape and let them have at it.
