SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “JWR”. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. Today, we look at the Second Amendment erosion in Virginia.

Virginia Lawmakers Pass 7 Gun-Control Bills, More Coming
DSV sent his one: Virginia Lawmakers Pass 7 Gun-Control Bills With More Coming. The article begins:
“Ten days after over 20,000 peaceful Second Amendment supporters marched in front of the state house in opposition to newly-elected Democrats’ proposed gun-control legislation, Virginia lawmakers approved seven new gun control bills.
Virginia state representatives voted to approve numerous gun-control measures that had been enthusiastically supported by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, ABC News reported.
Similar bills had already passed the state senate and all the gun-control measures pending are expected to quickly receive the Democratic governor’s signature.
One new law will require background checks for all gun sales, including private gun transfers and those bought at gun shows, WTVR reported.”

Your Smart Vehicle Is Recording Your Every Move
Reader H.L. also sent us this:Your Smart Vehicle Is Recording Your Every Move. The article opens with this:
“In early January, companies at the CES 2020 displayed their plans for making use of the surprising amounts of data gathered by newer model vehicles. Amazon, Intel, Qualcomm, and Blackberry were among the companies seeking partnerships with automakers who are also searching for methods to monetize the data gathered by their vehicles.
Bloomberg reports that “modern cars roll out of factories packed with cellular connections, powerful processors and growing suite of sensors, including cameras, radar and microphones. That’s turning them into the next information goldmine, rivaling the data-creating capabilities of smartphones.”
Bloomberg also notes that Intel announced a new stage of its Mobileye technology which allows for driver-assistance and Intel to gather data from cameras, chips, and sensors within the vehicle. Intel says this anonymous information is used to create detailed maps to enhance vehicle navigation systems. Intel has estimated that data gathered by vehicles will be worth as much as $3.5 billion by 2030. Bloomberg reports that consulting firm McKinsey & Co. estimates that “up to $750 billion of value would created from car-related data by 2030.”“

An Excellent Medical Lecture on the Wuhan Coronavirus
Some of the facts conflicted, as these ‘facts’ are actually educated guesses, and some were unsubstantiated. What are considered to be important ‘unknowns’ by the most critical and independent thinkers, were presented as fact. For myself, there were some pleasant surprises and and some disappointments, but for most folks, It’s a good place to start.
I could point out the specific problems found, but it would not help most folks. This topic is big hairy nut to deal with so I will let go. What we are dealing with is mostly an unknown. It is still too early to know how it behaves in China, or to predict how it will behave in other countries. All estimates appear to indicated that this could be a serious pandemic. Again, as stated many times, this may be on par, or worse than the Spanish Flu of 1918. That is about as accurate and honest assessment and comparision that can be derived. And this is at best, only an educated guess. The most honest assessment is that we simply do not know. If professionals of all backgrounds could humble themselves, we would be better off.
re: “The most honest assessment is that we simply do not know.”
AGREE 100% with your post.
We continue to shore up our preparations because we believe we simply do not know — and taking a chance on the outcome is not something we’re willing to do.
I agree. Too early to know. The other problem, by the time we do know the supplies we might need that we don’t normally stock may be gone. I’ve gone out and purchased some supplies for personal protection, cleaning and isolation that I don’t normally stock because of shelf lives.
The residents of 2A counties in VA need to accept the Governor of WV’s invitation to join WV. There will no doubt be a lawsuit that will go to the SCOTUS, but might as well get it started before the VA commies destroy the Commonwealth. The domino effect of this could help other states.
Haha yup. My wife comes from Broadway va. We have just started to save for our new home down there….
I was born and raised in the p.r.k. (people’s Republic of kalifornia). I then moved to n.y.c.
In spite of what most think most of California is gun rack country.
I was looking forward to moving my wife back to here home town…. Now we both agree west Virginia it is.
As the President concluded his remarks, of the State of the Union Speech, we all saw Representative Pelosi tear the speech in half. I found it, like this predicament in Virginia, as yet another highly public piece of evidence that this nation is no longer ‘one’ nation under God. For me, I truly believe the proposed-movement of 2A counties toward a friendly 2A state as even more evidence that we are on the precipice of massive change. A Constitutional Convention of States should be convened in order to address a split of the nation due to irreconcilable differences. The SCOTUS, Senate, Presidency, and majority of Governors are GOP or lean that way mostly. The Democrats want Absolutism (control over all others not in their upper circles of power), Multiculturalism and Socialism. Communism or Party-style Dictatorship will follow for the Democrats who support this, but we as the other side must at some point remove the B.S. filter and start seeing this for what it is. If you have two parties who can’t even stand listening to the other side, in the same room, then it is time to go separate ways (Dems leaving the SOTU, and Pelosi’s aforementioned actions at the end as examples). Relentless pursuit to disarm those you wish to control is self-evident. The easiest way to ensure total control is to totally control the direction the remaining weapons are pointing. The splitting of the country is already occurring in where we choose to live, where many of us go to church or send our children to school (or homeschool) etc. It is natural. Look at nature: A polar bear, black bear, grizzly bear, koala bear and Care Bear are all bears. Each has a place in the vastness of this world (Arctic, mountainous forests, low-lying forests, Australia and the mall). However, putting them all in a small room will result in the polar bear turning a pinkish hue. If we truly value freedom, want to preserve it for future generations, want to avoid violence in front of the eyes of our children and still believe we should remain free; then we must confront this with more than talk radio and blogs. At some point, we must understand that the other side is sick of playing the ‘long-game’ (3-d Chess) and is ready to run the table on our side who is constantly divided (Evangelicals, Catholics, Libertarians, RINOs, Conservatives vs Conservatives-In-Name-Only (CINOs) and on and on) playing checkers. They want their power now. Move the 2A counties of Virginia to West Virginia. Just have the courage to do what is necessary to preserve our way of life, freedoms, Constitution and convictions by exhausting all peaceful attempts to curb the violence we seem to be headed towards. The rally was awesome. It is a start in the right direction. Our foes are never going to stop, so we must remain steadfast to thwart their efforts. ‘They’ can only take what you are willing to give them.
I can hardly wait to get out of Virginia. It’s getting worse and worse. I lived in Maryland for a few years, and then moved to VA. I can see the slow, rotting creep of Socialism coming from Maryland into Northern Virginia and it will continue. Fixing the house up as fast as I can and moving to Wyoming. I can hardly wait. It will seem like heaven!

What funny is that…. With the firearms laws… Everyone makes a fuss.
They have struck a major blow if not killed ever single right as protected (not given to be sure these rights are inalienable as stated… You are born with them and they are considered sacrosanct by the founding fathers…. They are not given.) In the bill of rights (the first ten amendments of the constitution… The basis of our Constitution and that were required to be written in in order for the wonderful living document that is the Constitution to even be ratified by the original United States.)
The freedom of speech (that protects you from government reprisals… Not the right to say anything sans reprocusions ) gone…. And the public said
“Good that will stop the terrorists and hate speech”
Rights against false imprisonment, search an seizure , self incrimination…. Gone response
“Dadgum terrorists that ‘ill learn them”
Geneva limits on “torture” out the window… Public response
“When there is a ticking time bomb the ends justify the means”
But…. Touch the right to keep and bare arms (a vital amendment mean for us to be able to over throw an oppressive government)…. Public response
“Who needs cannons and full auto rifles? Good riddance”
Now classify regular already restricted fire arms that will influence our hobbies and…
The public goes quietly ballistic … Then forgets and life moves on.
God forbid any one remember WW2 and that the Jewish situation started with the crazy and retarded….

Thank you for the comments. I grew up in Northern Minnesota so Wyoming winters should be cake. The plan is somewhere outside of Sheridan.
Sheridan. A good VA hospital, decent economy, Weatherbee, wolves and griz in the mountains just 10 miles from main street. Wheatley and Fisher didn’t make it there, but you can see their rocks a few miles south along the old Bozeman Trail.
Enjoy Sheridan County. Pack your cold weather gear and say hi to my kids there.
You are selecting a beautiful area! As for the cold and wind, just consider it “the riff-raff factor”… because it keeps the riff-raff out! 😉
I consider my decision to move to Montana to be the fourth best choice I ever made in life, followed only by my decisions regarding my Faith, my husband, my daughter, and my career in nursing.

2. Those “insurance discount” plugins are as bad or worse – they track you – location and speed, look for hard braking (so run over that squirrel!), and constantly chat to the cell network.
My first post was a lengthy one… It didn’t post apparently .. so to sum it up.

Pandemic: Panic is for fools. Preparation is for the provident.
Luck indeed favors the prepared. The Wuhan Virus situation has continued to devolve with the World Health Organization declaring an International Health Emergency and The American CDC declaring a US quarantine for the first time in 50 years. US confirmed cases stand at 12 and we are told to expect more cases to be announced “soon.” Of grave concern is the fact that China is almost certainly greatly underreporting cases and deaths. Some people (too many in my book) are taking this very lightly. They assume that this virus is a flash in the pan, no worse than the flu and probably better. They believe that things aren’t that bad and won’t get bad. I’m sure that’s what most people think at the beginning of every emergency situation. We must not be like the herd. We must look ahead while others stare downward. We must be cautious while others are wasteful and ignorant. We must have foresight and strength because it is our place and others are depending on us to do so.
You must remember that this is still the beginning stages of the pandemic. We are the ones who look ahead. We can see down the road and take notice of the obstacles and pitfalls. We can do this not because we are prescient but because we are observant. We can see and we can think. Our heads are not under our wings, in the sand or glued to Facebook or Instagram. We care about things other than the social and the trivia du jour.
Yes, others are starting to take notice. Some are starting to act. Supplies are draining away, slowly for now but soon the pace shall accelerate. More people will see, both the news and the slow bleed from the shelves. More will act. Momentum will build. A self reinforcing cycle will begin to turn. On top of all of that the virus will continue to spread and adapt to it’s new human hosts. Fools will make bad decisions. Others will heed the advice of the stupid and the chronically shortsighted. What was once clear to the few will become blatant to the masses. Do not stand where the stampede will run. Stay clear and stay clear minded.
We are still in the beginning but soon we won’t be.
If the Wuhan Coronavirus starts to proliferate here in CONUS, then the real cascade of shortages will begin. Panic situations are difficult to predict, but The Shortage Sequence may run in roughly the following order:
N95 Masks
Nitrile Gloves
Dust Masks
Hand Sanitizer
Goggles and Face Shields
Tyvek painter suits
Clean Room Booties
Lysol and other disinfectants
Nebulizers
Anti-Viral meds
and finally…
Botted Water
Staple Foods
An insightful list. We are seeing some early signs of basic and bulk items gone from the shelves. It’s too early to say that they won’t be restocked, but it’s a curious thing in light of events unfolding.
But why need all of that? You’re counting on mask and such to protect your life while all the time you should have already “holed” up at your bug out location where it’s germ free. And let no one enter. IMHO.
And one item I just saw in a newsfeed that makes perfect sense:
Adult diapers
to wear to prevent having to get into and out of your protective suit as often, thus prolonging PPE use period without getting in and out of contaminated gear so often.
Never had desire to live like an astronaut, but what the heck. I wear XL.
Depends. If you stay home there is no reason to need a Tyvek bunny-suit. Also there is believed to be a fecal-oral transmission route so close the lid before you flush, keep your toothbrush secured and covered, and clean that bathroom like your life depended on it.
Yeah, depends on your mission statement. Mine includes caring for sick family members who could be suffering explosive-type vomiting and diarrhea or bleeding eyeballs (anything similar to Ebola-type pandemics) I followed the Urban Prepper plan to set up a special sick room with negative pressure, plastic barriers and sealed entry, level 4 PPE, waste disposal, etc. All packed into bins now and ready.
Even with deadly Ebola type viruses, good home health care saved many patients. That my gold standard, not just donning gear to avoid contamination.
My plan C is to be ready to join with other community members to establish a common sick treatment location if other health care locations aren’t available. We will be able to set up teams to provide for 5 or 6 extremely sick people, pooling our capabilities.
If 6 of us have 3 suits each, that adds up to many days of PPE, instead of one person having to have so many suits and work in and out of containment room repeatedly, to do all life’s other tasks that must get done every day.
Lone wolfs die, but a pack can enhance survival probability.
And I still need adult diaper stockage to enable longer-term operational capability while in PPE.
God Bless your efforts,
Yup I agree with you.
I am one who has been vocal about “cooling your jets” simply put don’t panic. So far all indications are in first world countries this bug isn’t as bad as it’s hype.
This don’t mean it couldn’t be (simple strep-throat killed Jim Henson… And the first person saved by penecillin died from a shaving Nick latter on)
Right now it’s slowly acquire what your missing look at all options and keep your health and well being as optimal as possible.
There are two kinds of “preppers” those who:
See themselves as a hero and…
Those who just want to survive.
I’m in the latter.
So my response is simple and measured.
I have a plan to vacate my urban area
I have a back up plan to my plan
Finally I have a back up back up plan.
All of which hinge on my having a level and rational non-emotional response to emerging situations. Some as my name suggests are not pretty.
If it does become epidemic in the US, we’re not going to handle it any better than China is. How could we? We’re not magically going to come up with thousands of extra hospital beds, extra doctors, testing kits, etc. It took them five days to get the person in Wisconsin tested and confirmed.
There’s been lots of excellent info in the past two weeks on Survival Blog on PPE and how to use it. But here’s a perfect example of even trained medical professionals individuals using their PPE improperly. This photo is from Zero Hedge today. Notice the two guys on the right. The far right guy has his goggles clear up on his forehead. The middle guy has a huge gap between the top of his mask and the bottom of his goggles. The eyes are a known entry point so they should be covered.
https://www.zerohedge.com/s3/files/inline-images/Screen%20Shot%202020-02-06%20at%208.07.01%20AM.png?itok=BZE53FFi
Another thing that has me puzzled is why the US isn’t taking a different approach on making some public announcements about what to do if you think you have the virus. That person announced in Wisconsin yesterday (who was tested on Jan 30) just walked into a hospital emergency room and said, “Hey, I think I may have the virus.” They turned out to be positive for the virus. Seems like the policy should be for people who think they may be positive to call ahead to the hospital and let them know so the hospital can take some precautions. The person ended up in quarantine at home (because their symptoms were mild) so the hospital could have taken a test sample while they stayed in their car at the hospital instead of walking into the emergency room and possibly infecting lots of other people. This kind of poor planning and not thinking ahead only increases the chances of an epidemic getting started here. Some simple public service announcements could make a difference. A lot of person-to-person viruses do poorly in warm weather so the longer this delays getting here, the better our chances are.
The difference between China and us impact wise.
Most of the lethal cases were early (before it was known cases)
Every case in the us I after it is known. And known what to do for it.
Most of the China deaths were from old people , young people, and poor over worked under maintained people.
In America most people are underworld well fed (too well in some cases) generally healthy and well maintained.
In China you wait to go to the doctor until it’s almost too late.
In America you go to the doctor when your nose runs and demand antibiotics.
Etc.
Basically those are the big factors.
It all comes down to as my Chinese immigrant health care worker room mate said….
“This is certainly leathal to some poor people but here in America even your poor are rich compared to our poor…. If your rich your ok with this …. If your poor your effed. But if your poor your always effed and still more likely to die of phnuemonia.”
As with many other things in life and as been stated before;
“Money is a heck of an insulator”
And that applies to your surroundings not just personal wealth.
Hey j.m.z.b. I hope you’re right. I’m cautiously optimistic.
If you have a Chinese roommate, there’s a question I’ve been wondering about since the outbreak started, perhaps you could inquire? I was in the southern border provinces of Guangxi and Yunnan the year after the SARS outbreak and was astounded that everybody and their cat and dog, old and young, male and female, had the habit of spitting. And frequently. Even inside public buildings like railway stations. I couldn’t help but think to myself, “No wonder!” There was no place to sit in the railway stations so when you got tired you just had to lay down in it and hope for the best. Since this outbreak started I’ve been wondering if that habit has been curtailed any, and if it was a nationwide thing or just certain provinces? I didn’t see it occurring in the countries bordering those provinces so it seemed like it was definitely a Chinese thing.
I asked and recieved the answer.
It is considered more hygienic to them to spit thier phlegm than to swallow it down. This also is the same for blowing thier nose. They prefer “snot rockets” to picking or using Kleenex. As I looked into it more it’s a hold over from them (and apparently quite a few other cultures) thinking that using a pocket handkerchief multiple times is disgusting (I agree with that about handkerchief)
This is also part of the reason they have the no street shoes in the house policy. And have the outdoors indoor clothing policy of coming home from work and almost immediately changing into lounge wear.
St. Fun
He doesn’t know if it has been slowed down in China at all as he hasn’t been back there for a long time. But I’d reckon that with how many f.o.b. (fresh off boat…. Not derogatory in this usage) Chinese I’ve seen doing it here in NYC it’s still not a behavior that it looked down on there.
Hi j.m.z.b., thank you very much for those replies, they make some sense. I wasn’t aware of their house shoes/lounge wear custom either. That would certainly mitigate the problem quite a bit. Please tell your friend for me he has a very beautiful country and wonderful people!
Good luck getting people to look out for the health of others. I can tell you for a fact that 90% of ER visits for cold/flu symptoms are total BS and should never make it through the doors, but everyone knows that an ER can’t refuse to see ANYONE for ANY reason until they have been assessed by a healthcare professional. By then the damage is done. And most of the sick patients refuse to wear their masks in normal times, as if hospital staff has some kind of magical immunity to their funk.
One more thing. Expect that your local hospital, already critically short-staffed because of the profit motive, to suffer massive walk-outs and no-shows among nurses, radiology techs, respiratory therapists and phlebotomists if this becomes an epidemic in the US. I’m not sacrificing myself (and many others I have talked to are of the same mind), at the first hint of this getting out of control we’re all going into “self-isolation”. Dedication to the profession for most healthcare workers ends when their own family is jeopardized by their job.
Hi BinWY, you bring up a very interesting point about medical workers self-isolating if this thing gets out of hand here. Based on the number of Chinese medical workers getting sick and that Science Daily article someone posted yesterday about 8.6% of N95 mask wearers still getting infected, I think I’d be self-isolating too if I were a medical worker. I wonder if the US pandemic planners have that figured into their equations?
BGF. So well stated… We agree. Some are preparing, but most are not. We are confronted by this reality, and it’s hard to understand or accept. It’s heartbreaking, really. We have tried everything from gentle encouragement to direct warnings. Too many people cannot hear and will not listen. Even so, we work forward doing the best we can. We must remain focused, forward looking, and proactively preparing.
From your post: “We must not be like the herd. We must look ahead while others stare downward. We must be cautious while others are wasteful and ignorant. We must have foresight and strength because it is our place and others are depending on us to do so.”
Corona Virus
There is now lots of medical opinion available, yet there is little scientific fact to work with. We must not confuse necessary medical opinion with scientific fact that requires a process to derive (Scientific Method). We must use conjecture and opinion to explore the potential, and to develop a working hypothesis, yet we should not let even well justified opinion be confused with the few scientific facts and verifiable date that is available. This is difficult for the common man, and even professionals. The mental gymnastics can be exhausting and are not without this risk of confusing medical opinion and conjecture, with what few facts there are available, or the lack of facts, or even simple data. Especially when the data provided is designed to obfuscate.
There is reason believe that there will be in the next month or two, new data sets available from several sources, or countries to analyze, that will closer resemble the real world. These will be from surrounding Asian countries, that will verify or not, early speculation. As any virus does, it mutates. That, and other factors make it difficult to determine how it might propagate and behave in this country. I suspect it will not be as bad here, as it is in densely populated Asia.
Clearly the this virus is doing great harm to China, killing more than the Spanish Flu might have. We only need to see a CFR of 3%, that is presently much higher in China, to make a comparison to the Spanish Flu of 1918. The clarity of this argument, separates its from the conjecture that some find confusing, and the import is difficult to ignore. We will likely see a Spanish Flu level of devastation, a 2 to 3% death rate in the U.S., or worse.
Dear Readers,
Well, we are on the mend. There is still a coughing chorus occurring here around the ranch. Jim is still sounding the worst of all of us. You can tell he is feeling a little bit better, though. He is making many jokes and goofing around with and through his wheezing. Have any of you ever been silly with the wheeze once the worse of the illness has past and you are feeling a wee bit better?
Two nights ago, we were talking, Jim was laying on the bed with his head up and over the pillow but hanging slightly over the top of the bed. He began wheezing terribly. Since we had just been talking and laughing and coughing together, and had gotten quiet in our own thoughts for a few minutes, I looked hard at him and asked, “Are you doing that on purpose?” He looked at me through the corners of his eyes and you could see the twinkle and hear a laugh coming through. “Yes, I am.” He said, laughing, wheeze, cough, cough, cough, laugh, wheeze.” Men!! ;-0
It is a little bit funny to laugh through the wheeze and then cough. It feels funny. Wheezing is an interesting bodily phenomena.
So we know the worse is probably over. Thank You Lord! And Thank You all for praying for us.
Jim’s appetite has returned, and he is back to working on the blog. He has one final edit of the newest book that he has to get done ASAP. Thankfully, he can do this stuff with the laptop in bed. We’re back to schooling and are preserving more fruits and veggies that I recently bought. I will tell more about that during our “Editor’s Preps of the Week” column on Saturday.
May you all have a Blessed Thursday,
Lily
Two items I have used to treat minor burns, ketchup or tomato paste, seems the acid in tomatoes is the key, the other is egg whites. Both were successful for me.
No offense but you don’t use food items like that. Yes there are herbal remedies. Those should be stocked as medicine used for medicine and only after everything else is gone consumed by you as food.
Treatment for burns is to ease pain and decrease as much as possible secondary damage of residual heat.
Treatment for most burns in a grid down situation is cool water. … Running is best but moving the burn through standing water works as does cool thin wet cloth.
1st and second degree burns are (depending on size of afflicted area) of little to no concern out side of comfort.
For second degree burns you don’t pop the blister . If it pops you use your favorite broken skin wound treatment.
Third degree burns are bad. You cool as much as possible and use only sterile medical grade treatments. These treatments should be the ones used for deep tissue wounds. You do not DO NOT USE any wound treatment that would in any way injure the already damaged skin or introduce any feed for bacteria or other infectious agents . And be prepared to debride the wounded area.
Failure to learn propped wound Care basics is life and death.
JWR,
I agree totally with your list of “scarce items”. Yesterday on a shopping trip into town I visited two Lowes and one Home Depot. Both were completely out of N95 masks. An employee in the building materials area of HD told me, “we shipped all of our masks to the government last week; they are headed to China.” He did NOT specify what agency requested the masks.
Things that make one go, “Hmmm…”
Freedom Loving Texan…i can reinforce your story above with one related to me the same day you posted.(i initially posted this under the opening S.B. posted Thursday about Reagan’s birthday.)
At my yearly cleaning, i casually asked my dental hygienist if they had a good supply of the face masks used in the office. She said “YES! Let me tell you what happened yesterday!” Towards the end of January she sees the face mask stock is getting low, so ordered a case. Order came quickly. THEN, the beginning of this week ANOTHER case shows up…mistake? She calls their supplier to see and was told by the rep that he had shipped a case to each of his customers since they would most likely not be getting more for a while AND they had been asked to RETURN extra cases to be redirected where needed. Makes one think a bit…especially with two similar stories, so far, here among the readers.
Viriginia legistlature is soon to learn yet again (as did Connecticut and others) that making a law is a far easier endeavor than enforcing a law. Will wait and see what the results are. Meanwhile, the civil courts can start a churning on the lawsuits sure to come. The only real court of consequence will be at the polls on the next election to see who gets to keep their seat and who gets shown the door.
I know all you scientific types will be quick to point out the empirical difference, but from a layman’s perspective, this here coronavirus is just another flu bug. It acts like a flu bug, it can be treated like a flu bug, and it will pass along like a flu bug. Once they finish developing the vaccine for the thing, it will be relegated to archival classification. Meanwhile, the death toll from the “real” influenza this year continues to rise. Thank God fearless leader has not perished. It lightens our hearts to hear A. Lily espouse on the apparent recovery of the household. We are encouraged. As with all things, it pays to be informed and to be prepared. But we keep in the back our minds the eternal consequences of life, which is that it will end, one way or another. If this bug does somehow become a serious social issue, I would say the far greater threat will be realized from the desperation of individuals trying to stay ahead of the problem at the last minute. I prefer to avoid desperate people far more than the infected.
There is a time where discretion is the better part of valor. However, to adopt a policy of constant flight in the face of corruption, tyranny, and conflict only serves to make us all cowards. Eventually, there comes another day to fight, and sooner or later, we are gonna have to accept the invitation to dance. The longer we spend up against the wall, the more likely we are to get a less desirable partner. Worse still, when the fiddler stops his tune, it might turn into musical chairs, and you could find yourself without a place to sit! Just sayin’.
Instances like these new to Virginia laws re-enforced the need to learn live and love opsec and the grey man philosophy.
My firearm in California was a Remington shotgun 12 gauge. That’s it standard long barrel classic stock shotgun. Every knows it every knows it’s for hunting. I go out to hunt I have safety orange on. When I’m in gunshop buying ammo it’s hunting loads. … My shotgun is referred to as my firearm (not my gun not my weapon).
What no one saw was my box-o-parts ;
Short barrel, magazine extension, trimmed fitted Boyd’s laminated thumbhole stock, modified fire arm matching from Boyd’s, Picatinny laser and flash light attachments or my modified sideways forestock pistol grip (I short stock and tactical the heck outa shot guns)
No one saw this because it was clear to even the most novice observer that in its grid down configuration it had one purpose… Kill two legged animals (not birds)
What people saw was me shoot during hunting season.
What people didn’t see was me assemble and sneak off to the country and set up my own range to practice. I told no one.
I worked and work hard every day to only let people see in me is as much as I can help it is a friendly jovial light hearted guy.
They don’t see some one who worked biker collections\enforcement and who has had to go to battle against “Emme” and later ms13. Or some one who had to “pit” fight for money as a teenager.
Meanwhile people lucky enough to have been in unrestricted states have had the privilege of walking around in full public view with thier “as close as possible” full tac assault riffles.
This is the result. Of that.
It’s not surprising.
Honestly once they hit Virginia and states like Virginia there is no second amendment ripple effect…. This is the ripple effect of these types of laws being passed in places like the p.r.k and NYC etc.
Now people are talking about “from my cold dead fingers” on social media.
Which implies to the general public that you will shoot cops .. btw.
This is why I laughed so hard that I had to use my asthma inhaler when my wife informed me of what was going on.

Let Nikon and any other company that has lost their nerve do what ever they think is best.
We really don’t need them do we?
There are many manufacturers that produce high quality optics that will love to have us as customers.
Treat political correctness as you would a person with the Coronavirus.Refuse to shake hands and walk away.
I agree, but man, I have loved Nikon cameras for over 40 years. I can’t speak as highly of their spotting scopes. Any company that’s afraid of the way they are seen by the socialists in Europe deserves what comes. There are plenty of quality optics made right here in America, for now, but if they’re getting their glass from China the supply might dry up. In my town, Maven is making a name for itself.
