With just 43,000 residents spread out over nearly 5,300 square miles, Okanogan County is known as a night sky viewing mecca. Pearrygin Lake State Park (outside the little town of Winthrop, on the very lightly-populated Highway 20 corridor) has been suggested as an official Dark Sky Reserve.

Spokane ranked among worst drivers in state of Washington, per LendingTree. JWR’s Comments: To be fair, I must point out that Spokane is the only metropolitan area in Eastern Washington. It is connected by two freeways with 70-mile-per-hour speed limits. Many workers in Spokane have very long commutes (up to 1.5 hours, each way), so both speed and fatigued driving are both key factors.
