SurvivalBlog’s News From The American Redoubt

This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. (Idaho, Montana, eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Wyoming.) Much of the region is also more commonly known as The Inland Northwest. We also mention companies located in the American Redoubt region that are of interest to preppers and survivalists. Today, JWR’s #1 Son discusses Idaho’s upcoming Proposition 1 vote. (See the Idaho section.)

Bull moose captured in Great Falls to be relocated. Two excerpts:

“A bull moose roaming around Great Falls on Friday has been captured and will be relocated.”

and,

“The moose was in the vicinity of the former Eddie’s Supper Club, near the intersection of Second Avenue North and 38th Street.

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks wardens and biologists captured the moose and will relocate it to the Little Belt Mountains.

FWP said during this time of year, bull moose often travel long distances in search of cow moose.

Moose can be found across many parts of Montana, although they are more likely to be seen in the more mountainous regions of western Montana.

They occasionally wander into populated areas, and their large size and unique appearance often cause curious people to gather.”

Wyoming

In the moments of disaster, the Elk Fire is bringing Wyoming communities together. A quote:

“Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team (RMIMT) is the lead for fire management with 528 people on site to fight the Elk Fire. The public information officer for RMIMT, Kristie Thompson, says that the hot weather, dry vegetation and the wind is making this fire a beast to contain.

“With the wind that is expected today with the red flag warning that starts at noon today, through six p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) we do know that there is the chance that this fire will increase in size.”

One issue crews tell me they’re facing is people who are stopping along the roads to take photos of the flames, which can be a problem for crews trying to get past them.”
