Reader L. sent this:
“I have a comment on the article regarding elderly parents in decline and would like reader comments as to what course of action should be taken at the point when the “hard questions” raise their ugly heads. If for example you absolutely have to leave your location for whatever reason, and you and your elder both know he/she is going to slow you down a lot, and unfairly consume a share of resources that could be better used elsewhere, what do you do? Do you try to piggyback-carry her or get her to hobble painfully for a quarter mile only to collapse and slowly die thereby delaying your departure, or do you shoot grandma in the head and bury her on your property? If he/she can understand the choice that has to be made, will you (emotionally) be able to determine ahead of time what the proper course of action is to be?
As a grandparent myself with my faculties still intact, and with a clear-eyed perception of the future, I have already decided I will remain in place while my family leaves “for the sake of the children” as is right and proper. I have had a long life and if I am able to do so I would end my own life, thereby taking the decision (and the following guilt and shame) away from my loved ones. If not mentally capable at that point, I have already given my assent to be kindly put out of the way by whatever means necessary and will not hold it against them-smother me with a pillow or inject me with air bubbles to stop my heart, or give me a whacking great dose of codeine syrup to put me to sleep and stop my heart, or manufacture a nicotine poison to put into my evening cocoa. These are hard things to face and most family members would want to do everything humanly possible to keep their loved ones alive, but I would frame it in this context: if you had a beloved pet that was suffering, you would want to gently ease them out of this world even though it would cause you untold grief. Don’t wait to have a conversation with your aging parents because the choice will come upon you whether you want it or not.”

Judge rules that Arizona law limiting filming of police is unconstitutional. JWR’s Comments: Remember folks: There is NO expectation of privacy in a public place. If the police are free to film you (with dash cameras and body cameras), then you can film them, if you’d like! I recommend carrying both a camera — or a camera-equipped cell phone) and your free CFAPA.org press credentials in your car at all times. (I established CFAPA along with my #3 Son, Robert.)
