August 22nd, 1992 was the second day of the Incident at Ruby Ridge. FBI sharpshooter Lon Horiuchi wounded Randy Weaver, wounded Kevin Harris, and murdered Weaver’s wife, Vicki. It should be noted that in 1994, after being acquitted by a federal court, Weaver filed a federal civil rights case against the FBI and U.S. Marshals stemming from the siege. In 1995 the government settled Weaver’s case for $3.1 million. It is commonly thought that had the Weaver family stayed with the trial, the award would have been the full $200 million. In true FBI style, Lon Horiuchi was not prosecuted by the Federal government. When Idaho brought manslaughter charges against him, the trial was moved to federal court and dismissed. Horiuchi has also been accused of firing unauthorized shots at the Waco siege.

So, the government paid the sh**weasel $1.3 million to murder in the name of that same government? So, is he still around? Is he running a school to train to shoot innocent people from ambush? He’s not and never was a sniper. He shot civilians. He is a murderer.
Horiuchi is also a government agent and therefore will be protected at all costs….. maybe even promoted. Sad.
Ummmm…I’m pretty sure that money went to the Weaver family, not the FBI sharpshooter….
What I meant was, was Horiuchi prosecuted for murder? No.
Were the Government Goons in charge of the whole fiasco fired from their cushy .gov jobs? No.
Did the FBI get a stinging rebuke from congress (or whoever hold their leash)? No.
Was the FBI’s budget reduced until they stop murdering innocent civilians? No.
So they were protected at all costs.
Horiuchi was actually prosecuted by Idaho, but the Feds successfully petitioned to have the case moved to federal court where they promptly dismissed it.
I stand corrected. Thank you.
But in the end Horiuchi was not punished.
Actually the 9th circuit reversed the dismissal by the lower federal court and said Horiuchi could face state manslaughter chargers. The new DA in Boundary County petitioned the court to dismiss the charges at the state level, which the court agreed. The DA who filed the original charges lost his bid for reelection prior to the reversal from the 9th. Now you know the rest of the story!!!
Correct the $3.1M was awarded to the Weavers by the government out of court. I remember this incident so well that it has been burned into my soul. I remember the interview with Lon Horiuchi and how he said he wasn’t aiming at Vicki Weaver when he shot her in the head. It was mentioned that Vicki was the Matriarch that held the group together and removing her would be instrumental in breaking the groups resolve. So yes she was targeted and was murdered by the government. When I look back on this time of Ruby Ridge, Waco, and even the Elián González where Janet Reno had her thugs break into a house and snatch a seven year old to send him back to Cuba, it reminds me how much I hated the way our country’s administration was running things.
It’s important to remember that while Waco and Elián González occurred under the guidance of Janet Reno in the Clinton administration, the policies that were in place were instigated before Ruby Ridge under the Reagan administration. Both administrations share blood guilt.
The government did not pay 3.1 million,we did..that money came from us..and it keeps happening
I care not about the money. We deserve to compensate Randy for the losses he suffered as a direct result of the tyranny we all allowed. I’ve heard a lot of bloviating over the years from a lot of people who are “outraged” by the death of Sammy and Vicky Weaver. So far, I have yet to hear of even an attempt to deal justice to the murderer. Anyone, including me, who sits at a keyboard in a comfortable home demanding that someone else deal justice to a murderer who walks freely among us, is nothing more than a cowardly member of s lynch mob, without the slightest intention of doing the hanging themselves. We, as American men, each shoulder some responsibility for the predators that walk in our midst. What is to stop Horiuchi from shooting my wife or any one of yours? Tough words? We know he is capable of it, he has done it already. We allow him to walk among us, so we deserve what we get if he snatches a lamb or an ewe occasionally. All the barking in the world means little if it comes from a toothless, cowardly dog who will not or cannot get a wolf by the throat and snatch the life from it. Am i bitter? You bet. Have a hard time looking in the mirror at times, even. We all have our reasons, to be sure. Cowards always do. I tell myself it isn’t worth being the only one. What’s your excuse?
This abuse happened, and continues to happen for one reason only. WE ALLOW IT. And as long as we do, we will get more of it. Don’t worry, they will get around to us eventually. I just hope we all find our sand when we finally come up on the list. My lines are drawn. They won’t be moving, but they are way farther into our turf than I would prefer, and drawn later than they should have been. Perhaps I love life more than liberty, at least somewhat. It’s obvious I love life more than justice. We all do. I simply hope that the Creator won’t take as dim a view of my cowardice as I do. Perhaps I will yet find the chance to redeem myself. If it comes, I expect to take full advantage of it. I hope I am not the only one.
Wise words Old Grey Wolf. I feel the same.
Well said. Nothing else I can add. I think the same way.
