Mr. Bridges was one of the top candidates for the role of Captain Kirk in Star Trek, too. He turned it down, not wishing to be involved with science fiction, which was at that time pretty juvenile. Interestingly, a few years later he was involved with the abysmal Battlestar Galactica. Looks like he picked the wrong decade to give up sci fi.
