Odds ‘n Sods:

Who are the alleged Boston Bombers? It appears that they Chechen Muslims who were legally residents in the States. This might be a case of newly-minted Americans with an agenda, time of their hands and some spending money. Tamarlen Tsarnaev (deceased via the grisly combination of police gunfire, blowing himself up, and being run over by his own brother) was a frustrated boxer who had been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend. The editor of View From The Porch mentioned that it is safe to assume that he was named after the Muslim-Mongol conqueror Tamerlane. (It is a fairly common name in Chechenya.) His younger brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev–captured, at last report–was most likely named after Dzhokhar Dudayev, the first President of Ichkeria–an Islamic separatist Chechen Republic created in 1991. (I assume this because he would have been born around 1994, which was at the height of the First Chechen War, and two years after Dzhokhar Dudayev took power.) Ironically, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev reportedly became a naturalized American citizen on September 11, 2012. Some big unanswered questions: Did they have accomplices? If so, then who? Did they have any ties to international terrorists, or were they just domestic wannabes?

I just heard about a “best of both worlds” solution: Cannon Safe’s EMP Lock. (An electronic gun vault lock with a mechanical backup. Clever.)
