Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. This week the focus is on NORB range bags. (See the Gear section.)
Books:
The Prepper’s Cookbook: 300 Recipes to Turn Your Emergency Food into Nutritious, Delicious, Life-Saving Meals. By the way, this book is from Ulysses Press–the folks who publish my novel Patriots.

Finally! A “self-help” style book backed by some conservative, religiously-grounded common sense has made it into Amazon’s Top Ten. (It was ranked #1 on Amazon, the last time I checked.) The book is titled: 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos.
Movies:
This film has been mentioned before, and I’ll probably mention it (deservedly) again: The Patriot.
o o o
And this is a classic shoot-’em-up drama, from masterful writer/producer John Milius: Dillinger. (Finally available on BluRay!)
Vlogs and Instructional Videos:
Garand Thumb: The MARSOC Drill.

33 Minutes well-spent, with Wrangletstar: I Build A Four Pound Survival Kit. Note: In this video he mentions that he carries and recommends the great Ichiban Samurai Hand Saw. (I own one of these too, and recommend it.)

Why these lock washers are the only ones that actually work! Nord-Lock. JWR’s Comment: I’m glad he made this video, to explain why Nord-Locks work so well in high-vibration applications like engines and pumps. They are highly recommended!
Podcasts:
Wolf & Iron Podcast #23 – Joel Salatin on Regenerative Farming, Eating, & What We’re Doing Wrong
o o o
Radio Free Redoubt: Episode 18-05 Rep Matt Shea Presentation on Liberty – Colville, Washington. You can skip forward to the 3 minute mark. J.J. Schmidt says that eventually there will be a video available with Matt Shea’s slides included.
Gear (Offhand Gear NORB):
For the ladies, here is a great new range bag / laptop bag /purse: The Offhand Gear NORB. (That stands for: ‘No Ordinary Range Bag.”) These can fit up to 13″ laptop computers.

I posted a link to this product a few years back: ArmorCore Ballistic Panels. I’m making note of it again, because one of my consulting clients just mentioned that he used these panels to line a walk-in closet that he retrofitted into a home Panic Room. He used the thickest “Level 8″ rated 4’x8′ and 3’x8′ panels, which are 1-7/16” thick. This material is quite dense and weighs 15.2 pounds per square foot!
Because they have umpteen layers of woven fiberglass composite material, the Level 8 ArmorCore panels are difficult to attach with common drywall fasteners. So my client sparingly used some pre-drilled holes for screws, but mostly relied on Liquid Nails to glue them on to the closet’s interior sheetrock walls. He also bolted a panel to the inside of the vault door, for extra insurance. With this retrofit method there was no need to even touch the existing exterior sheetrock, except where the inward-opening vault door was installed. The finishing touch was a hinged 7-foot tall bookshelf, to conceal the door. Very clever!

Sterilite 16 Gallon Storage Trunk (Footlocker). Note: These are not watertight, but they are very sturdy! In JASBORR, I use several of these for storing extra firearms magazines and Garand clips, as well as some of my bulkier spare gun parts, such as HK stock furniture.
