JWR’s Recommendations of the Week:

Here are JWR’s Recommendations of the Week for various media and tools of interest to SurvivalBlog readers. The focus is usually on emergency communications gear, bug out bag gear, books, and movies–often with a tie-in to disaster preparedness, and links to “how to” self-sufficiency videos. There are also links to sources for both storage food and storage containers. You will also note an emphasis on history books and historical movies. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This week the focus is on roots and bluegrass music. (See the Music section.)

This recently topped the New York Times bestsellers list:  Magnolia Table, Volume 2: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering.  (The first cookbook in the series (Volume 1) was also a bestseller.

Featured Antique Gun of the Week

This week’s featured antique gun of the week is a S&W New Model 3 SA .44 Russian with factory letter.  Like most other pre-1899s, it can be mailed or shipped directly to your doorstep without any paperwork or FFL dealer involvement. (Be sure to check your state and local laws before ordering.) Take a look at the many recently-added guns at the Elk Creek Company store.  Note: We are on hiatus until May 4th, but you can build your Wish List, in the interim.

Make a Suggestion

Want to suggest Recommendations of your own? Then please send them to JWR. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) Thanks!

          Thanks for that 🙂
Remember when the thin mints actually had a layer of white mint cream in them?
          Now THOSE I miss!!

          Have a Rockin great day!!

          1. Mmmm, Thin mints, Peppermint Patties, Reese’s Peanut Buttercups, Oreo cookies, Ring Dings, Chocolate Mousse, Black raspberry and Pistachio ice cream, Key Lime Pies, Pistachio Baklava, Death by Chocolate cake; some of my favorite desserts/snacks. All foods I no longer eat for various reasons: sugar, hydrogenated oils, milk, cream, butter, eggs, chemicals and preservatives! :(. Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I do eat modified versions, of some, though 😉

May you have a great day.

    1. Hey Marine,

Thanks for the heads up. I thought I had read all of Bryson’s books, not sure how I missed this one. Looks very interesting.

Have you read Dandelion Wine? Bryson’s book made me think of it. My all-time favorite book. It all takes place in the summer of 1928, a boy’s summer adventures before video games and helicopter parents were invented. I read it every summer. Not only is the nostalgia good, but the writing itself is just the greatest.

  1. Just a little price gouging on those gloves on Amazon. Shipping is on the high side also. Got to love capitalism!!!

Thank goodness I planned ahead and don’t have to buy any.
