Of interest to those who own metal detectors: Unexpected Discovery Forces Treasure Hunter to Question Everything He Knows. JWR’s Comment: My guess is that with that many discarded broken shoe buckles, the scissors, the hammer head and the thimble, the original owner of the property was a cobbler. It bears mention that the hammer head he found was the right size for cobbling work. Take a look at his other videos. It is nice to see that he packs a Glock, when he’s out in the woods. And there is more than just metal detecting in his videos. He often points out the wild edibles that he finds.

“I want to bring your attention to the Milwaukee brand cordless chainsaw. I was turned onto this by a contractor providing remodeling services on my home. Although I don’t own one personally, he informed me that he can cut for over two hours on a battery charge. It is significantly quieter than a gasoline operated saw and could likely be recharged with a solar panel, TEG module, or generator. I imagine this could be helpful if fuel was scarce.

Interestingly, I encountered a blogger online who paired a cordless Makita chainsaw with an inverter and a series of batteries in the back of his pick up truck. He was able to recharge the batteries using his alternator, and do a significant amount of wood cutting using the battery bank.

Just a few interesting ideas, although I like the thought of a dedicated Milwaukee cordless chainsaw the best.”

JWR Adds: I’d recommend getting at least three spare 9-amp batteries on hand, to keep on hand, charged. Oh, and a half-dozen spare chains.
