Economics & Investing For Preppers

Here are the latest news items and commentary on current economics news, market trends, stocks, investing opportunities, and the precious metals markets. We also cover hedges, derivatives, and obscura. Most of these items are from the “tangibles heavy” contrarian perspective of SurvivalBlog’s Founder and Senior Editor, JWR. Today, we look at some possible future classic cars. (See the Tangibles Investing section.)

Precious Metals:

We’ll start out today with this from Gary Christiansen: Gold Stocks Now? Here is a tidbit from his essay:

“Commercial and global central bankers are counterfeiting (legally). This benefits the financial and political elite. Don’t expect this nonsense to change. Commercial bankers and central bankers create more digital dollars to “paper-over” their monetary mess.

Politicians seldom question how creating more debt will correct excessive debt problems. And the game continues.”

Tangibles Investing (Future Classic Cars):

JWR Asks: Is there a particular model here — a future “classic” car — that is worth buying with less than 10 miles on the odometer, and tucking away, up on blocks?

Over at Forbes: The Last Mile: Cars That Will Be Discontinued For 2020. The article’s intro:

“Some car models aren’t going anywhere any time soon.

Take the Ford Mustang: since its first production year back in 1965, new ‘Stangs have rolled off the factory line ever since.

So too have mainstay family cars like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, both of which have enjoyed several decades of production with no end in sight.

Other cars experience the occasional production hiatus, such the Chevrolet Camaro, only to return redesigned and re-released a few years later.

Still other cars go out of production for good. And for every Pinto or El Camino that was rightly mothballed due to performance woes or wretched aesthetics, dozens of once beloved cars have also been discontinued.”

And at Business Insider: 50 once beloved cars that have been discontinued.

  1. “Put not your faith in the things of man.”

Well that leaves out the Federal Reserve and all of their funny money.
    And most all government agencies.
And the pompous “higher education” system that actively looks down on everything rural and blue collar.
And all of the “What’s in it for me?” corporations founded on greed and avarice.
You know, pretty much the entire construct of this modern world in it’s Matrix form.

Tune in, turn on and drop out?
At the very least decouple and step back. Don’t let this demented train take you over the cliff with it. Sure it might be a little lonely there at the top of the cliff after the wreck but at least you’ll be better off than the mass of passengers at the bottom.

  2. Some of the classic Jeeps are worth investing in. The Jeep line is changing to appeal to “girls” who will never drive off road and to older people who think that maybe someday they might have to drive in snow but want to do it in leather heated seats. The “real” Jeeps are being replaced.

One thing I miss is standard shift transmissions. The new automatic transmissions are good/OK but if they go bad it will cost you a small fortune to repair them. And I say that as a transmission mechanic of the 60’s back when the transmissions were not as good but you could fix one for pocket change.

    1. It may feel Anti American but if you are looking for an old school Jeep Mahindra roxor. Yes it is a newer Diesel 4 cylinder engine (governed to 30-45 MPH) and it will be different, but getting one converted for street legal should still have you under 20k. Search them on youtube and see the differences and if you can live with them. I am currently saving pennies for one myself. There are already many things that are for it out there as it shares some parts with the willies jeep line.

  3. Reference:Gold Stocks Now?
When it comes to any PM any piece of paper that says you own gold or silver is nearly
worthless.Try collecting when the lights go out.
From a preparedness standpoint stocks or certificates are a fools game.
If you don’t hold it you don’t own it.
    Got it?

    1. I understand your position in a total collapse scenario, but what if the next crash isn’t the big one? Seems like there could be some good money made on paper gold without the risk of holding physical.

      1. Where is the risk in holding a tangible that has held its value for thousands of years and has never been worth zero?
I respect your option. I can afford to be wrong. Can you afford for me to be right?

        1. The problem is that when you hear hoofbeats you think Zebras and not horses. It is unlikely that “the big one” will happen. Possible, certainly, but unlikely. It is probably a mistake to prepare for the unlikely because in this case by definition it will kill you and 2000 years from now someone else will dig up your gold. The smart thing to do is to plan for the likely problems in life. Simply doing this will prepare you for the unlikely too.

        2. The risk of holding gold is theft. I would like to hold some physical gold but it wouldn’t be safe in the house. (Easily stolen) If you were to bury it somewhere who would you tell? Anyone that knew the location would be a liability. What if you met your demise, then it would be lost? Anyone you tell the location of it could be threatened? I also respect and understand your position but these are the questions if have had.

Chick-Fil-A Donates to Extremist Southern Poverty Law Center
IRS records show that while Chick-fil-A will no longer donate to certain Christian organizations it is funding many leftwing groups.

The SPLC is a favorite target of conservatives – the group is most known for tracking hate groups and those that hold anti-LGBTQ beliefs, but has faced flak on the right from critics who accuse it of trying to limit free speech and religious liberty.

Chick-fil-A, meanwhile, has been hit by an avalanche of conservative criticism in recent days after it announced this month that its charitable foundation will no longer donate to two Christian groups that have long opposed same-sex marriage.

“The sad message of @ChickfilA is quite clear- they surrendered to anti- Christian hate groups,” said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), a prominent evangelical.

Anyone who opposes SPLC is slandered and slapped with their ‘extremist’ or ‘hate group’ label,” the conservative Family Research Council added this week.

TheConservativeTreehouse posted an interview from the appearance by President Trump on the Bill O’Reilly Radio show recently. TheConservativeTreehouse had this to say,
“O’Reilly is a decent interviewer, but doesn’t understand the complexity of the President Trump’s strategy in the geopolitical realm. The underestimation is not an O’Reilly weakness; the apparatus of ‘media’ do not grasp the full context of the background work POTUS has put into a global trade reset. The global reset is a massive and ongoing plan.

Specifically as it pertains to China, O’Reilly is stuck in the traditional financial perspective that >>>no U.S. President could ever walk away from China; which is >>>exactly what President Trump is doing.<<<< So at 19:00 of the video below, O’Reilly asks: “what’s holding up the China deal?” To wit, President Trump pauses and matter-of-factually says,….”ahhhhhh, ME! (Trump)”

  7. Folks who raise or have animals of any kind need to sit up and take notice of the march of animal rights activists and understand what is really behind their agenda. Their goal is a completely vegan society, for the purpose of controlling people’s minds. Your brain is powered by cholesterol, which is obtained entirely from animal foods. You won’t be able to figure out how to resist tyranny if you can’t think straight.
